Object Store Method for Interactive Multimedia Broadcasting (대화형 멀티미디어 방송을 위한 객체 저장 방법)

  • Interactive multimedia broadcasting can serve various additional information of object in multimedia because of the commercialized data broadcasting by communication and broadcasting convergence. One of the most important factors in interactive multimedia broadcasting is User-Centric Interoperability. The higher User-Centric Interoperability, the more information of user-interest objects are served quickly by user request. This proposed method finds own area of the object in mask video and divides the area into equal parts. And then it store as a form of bitsum after clustering the area. As a result of experiment, We confirm the method is efficient to use space for storing position information of the object.

Disparity and Image Characteristics of Stereoscopic Video Affecting on Viewing Safety (스테레오스코픽 비디오의 시청안전성에 영향을 미치는 변위 및 화면 특성)

  • The purpose of this paper is to find various disparity factors in conjunction with situations and contexts of the contents that cause viewer's discomfort, which is to make a content production guideline for viewer's safety, eventually. As a methodology, we extract the experimental data by letting various viewers push a pre-defined key as long as they feel discomfort during watching stereo 3D contents. For each contents, we extract the disparities and disparity changes for the focal point, vicinity of the focal point (ROI, region of interest), and the whole image. For each contents, each point or part of contents is analyzed to find the factors causing discomfort with the two prepared data with watching the contents in 3D. Then, all the analyzed data are re-analyzed to find the strength of each factor. The results from the analyses are explained from the factors having relatively high strength first. It includes the factors that are not known as well as the ones that we can already guess.

An Effective Method for Replacing Caption in Video Images (비디오 자막 문자의 효과적인 교환 방법)

  • Caption texts frequently inserted in a manufactured video image for helping an understanding of the TV audience. In the movies. replacement of the caption texts can be achieved without any loss of an original image, because the caption texts have their own track in the films. To replace the caption texts in early methods. the new texts have been inserted the caption area in the video images, which is filled a certain color for removing established caption texts. However, the use of these methods could be lost the original images in the caption area, so it is a Problematic method to the TV audience. In this Paper, we propose a new method for replacing the caption text after recovering original image in the caption area. In the experiments. the results in the complex images show some distortion after recovering original images, but most results show a good caption text with the recovered image. As such, this new method is effectively demonstrated to replace the caption texts in video images.

Implementation of Bi-directional Broadcasting System Using Interaction Channel (대화 채널을 이용한 양방향 방송 시스템의 구현)

  • In this paper. we design and implement a bi-directional broadcasting system, so called return channel server, to allow users to participate in a broadcasting program by using a hi-directional interaction channel. To provide user participation in a program and reflect the user's opinions or responses in real time, the return channel server can be viewed as consisting of four major functional modules: a control module, network interface module, DBMS module, and real-time content authoring module. To construct a return channel server that has a service independent architecture, we designed a return channel server to include the hierarchical structure. The presented return channel server consists of two parts: an RCSAE(return channel server application environment) and RCSA(return channel server application). An RCSA is composed of an execution code and a parameter for executing the execution code. RCSA defines the procedures for providing a specific broadcasting program using the return channel server. On the other hand, an RCSAE provides the environment for the execution of RCSAS. By adopting RCSAE and RCSA, we construct the return channel server that has a service-independent architecture which are shown by the test.

TV Program Recommender System Using Viewing Time Patterns (시청시간패턴을 활용한 TV 프로그램 추천 시스템)

  • As a number of TV programs broadcast today, researches about TV program recommender system have been studied and many researchers have been studying recommender system to produce recommendation with high accuracy. Recommender system recommends TV program to user by using metadata like genre, plot or calculating users' preferences about TV programs. In this paper, we propose a new TV program Collaborative Filtering Recommender System that exploits viewing time pattern like viewing ratio, relation with finish time and recently viewing history to calculate preference for high-quality of recommendation. To verify usefulness of our research, we also compare our method which utilizes viewing time patterns and baseline which simply recommends TV program of user's most frequently watched channel. Through this experiments, we show that our method very effectively works and recommendation performance increases.

A VoiceXML-based EPG Retrieval System (VoiceXML기반 EPG 검색 시스템)

  • Recent commencement of digital broadcasting has enabled various TV programs through hundreds of channels. As a result, it becomes a time-consuming job for the TV audience to look up newspaper or TV magazines for the schedule of a specific TV program. To relieve this problem, digital broadcasting usually provides an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) for the audience. Currently. most EPG services are focusing on the visual delivery of information through a web site, digital TV or mobile devices. However, this approach could cause a serious restriction to some users including drivers or visually handicapped persons, who can't input keywords for the search. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a VoiceXML-based EPG retrieval system that enables even such special users to browse EPG. conveniently using a mobile phone. We implemented a prototype system and proved its effectiveness through experiments.

Intermediate View Image and its Digital Hologram Generation for an Virtual Arbitrary View-Point Hologram Service (임의의 가상시점 홀로그램 서비스를 위한 중간시점 영상 및 디지털 홀로그램 생성)

  • This paper proposes an intermediate image generation method for the viewer's view point by tracking the viewer's face, which is converted to a digital hologram. Its purpose is to increase the viewing angle of a digital hologram, which is gathering higher and higher interest these days. The method assumes that the image information for the leftmost and the rightmost view points within the viewing angle to be controlled are given. It uses a stereo-matching method between the leftmost and the rightmost depth images to obtain the pseudo-disparity increment per depth value. With this increment, the positional informations from both the leftmost view point and the rightmost view point are generated, which are blended to get the information at the wanted intermediate viewpoint. The occurrable dis-occlusion region in this case is defined and a inpainting method is proposed. The results from implementing and experimenting this method showed that the average image qualities of the generated depth and RGB image were 33.83[dB] and 29.5[dB], respectively, and the average execution time was 250[ms] per frame. Also, we propose a prototype system to service digital hologram interactively to the viewer by using the proposed intermediate view generation method. It includes the operations of data acquisition for the leftmost and the rightmost viewpoints, camera calibration and image rectification, intermediate view image generation, computer-generated hologram (CGH) generation, and reconstruction of the hologram image. This system is implemented in the LabView(R) environments, in which CGH generation and hologram image reconstruction are implemented with GPGPUs, while others are implemented in software. The implemented system showed the execution speed to process about 5 frames per second.

Multi-view Augmented Reality for Realistic Content (실감형 콘텐츠를 위한 다시점 증강현실)

  • 최근 들어, 실감형 콘텐츠를 제작하기 위한 무안경 다시점 3DTV 와 가상, 증강현실 콘텐츠에 대한 기술개발이 활발해 지고 있다. 또한, UHDTV 의 등장으로 무안경 다시점 3DTV 의 걸림돌이던 해상도 저하문제가 해결되면서 시점당 해상도가 향상된 다시점 3D 디스플레이 상용품 및 시제품들이 발표되고 있다. 하지만, 시청 위치가 한정되어 있고, 시청자에게 눈의 피로를 일으키며, 비싼 가격으로 인해 아직까지 소비자에게 좋은 반응을 얻지 못하고 있다. 이러한 단점을 해결하기 위해, 본 논문은 다시점 영상을 증강현실로 보여주는 방법을 소개한다. 제안한 방법을 사용하기 위해, 다시점 카메라 시스템으로 영상을 획득하고, HMD (head mounted display)와 휴대용 (handheld) 장치를 사용하여 다시점 영상을 시청한다. 실험 결과를 통해 제안한 방법이 기존의 시점 제한 문제를 해결할 수 있음을 확인했으며, 제안한 방법을 활용하여 다양한 실감형 콘텐츠를 제작할 것으로 기대한다.

  • Video viewers can not understand enough entire video contents because most video is long length data of large capacity. This paper Propose efficient scene change detection and video abstracting using new shot clustering to solve this problem. Scene change detection is extracted by method that was merged color histogram with χ2 histogram. Clustering is performed by similarity measure using difference of local histogram and new shot merge algorithm. Furthermore, experimental result is represented by using Real TV broadcast program.

  • 3DTV 서비스는 방송 매체를 통해 3차원 입체영상을 전달함으로써 시청자에게 실감형 콘텐츠를 제공하는 기술이다. 기존 2D 방송에서 3D 방송으로의 패러다임 변화에 따라 3DTV 서비스는 차세대 방송을 위한 주요기술로 주목받고 있으며, 선진국을 중심으로 본격적인 3DTV 서비스 활성화를 위한 다양한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 따라서 본고에서는 국내외 주요 표준화 기관을 중심으로 3DTV 서비스 표준화 동향을 살펴보고, 국내에서 추진 중인 3DTV 실험방송 현황을 소개하고자 한다.
