Upgrade Development of a Centrifugal Compressor for Marine Engine Turbochargers (선박용 터보차져 원심압축기의 성능향상 개발)

  • Upgrade development of a high pressure ratio centrifugal compressor in marine engine turbochargers is presented. A new matched operating point at increased speed of rotation was determined through system cycle analysis using the exisitng test data of turbine performance. Under some severe restrictions for geometric parameters, the state-of-the-art methods of both aerodynamic design and CFD analysis were applied, in which only an impeller, a vaned diffusor and some part of casing wall were modified. Prototype hardware was fabricated and assembled for system performance tests. Excellent performance in pressure ratio and efficiency was obtained over whole speed region. Reduced surge and choke margin was, however, observed at design speed of rotation.

Development of Glass Fiber Composite Material to Extend the Life of Fly Ash Transport Pipe: Wear Test (비회 운송관의 수명연장을 위한 유리섬유 복합재의 개발: 내마모성 평가)

  • In this study, a fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) pipe with superior wear resistance was developed to replace the fly ash pipe of cast iron. Wear test was performed with various combinations of SiC filler and resin materials of unsaturated polyester, vinylester, epoxy, and phenol. Test results of ASTM D4060 showed the optimal combinations of resin, filler size, and resin/filler ratios. Test results of comparison between FRP and cast iron showed the possibility to replace cast iron pipe with the FRP pipe. Field test executed to compare the wear resistance between cast iron pipe and developed FRP pipe showed the superiority of the FRP pipe.

  • Most of eyeglasses manufacturers in Korea consist of relatively small-sized enterprises with less than 10 employees. In terms of scale, it performs considerably poor compared to other competing nations like Italy and the People's Republic of China. As a result, domestic eyeglasses industry is facing a difficult position between high-priced products of developed countries and low-priced goods of China, South East Asia, and etc. Considering these factors, the urgent solution for revitalization of domestic eyeglasses industry could be seen as major structural changes in eyeglasses producers. In addition, it is also noted that procurement of competitiveness is an essential scheme to reinvigorate the Korean eyeglasses industry. This objective can be achieved via improvement of ability to develop new designs, exploitation of new material and technology, intensification of own innovative brand and public relations, development of new products such as functional glasses, reduction of sample producing period, provision of administrative support, and designation of special economic zone.

  • This paper describes the development of an automatic dependent surveillance system(ADS) with Java on Web environment. The ADS consists of a server module and a client one. The server module performs a database server for gathering GPS data from airplanes. It also dose an Web server function for sending Java applet to clients. The applet enables each client to obtain the current flight information from the server via the Internet without a special client software. This client-server based ADS with Java environment has several advantages over other systems. One is not to need for installing special client software on each client system. The other is its simplicity on system maintenance. The reason why it has simplicity is to require only server program modification including the applet without updating client software. After testing the ADS system with the flight information of a Mooney, we can show that the prototype system can be a candidate for developing commercial products.

2,500 L/s 급 복합분자펌프의 특성평가 database 구축 및 표준화 기술 개발

  • 한국표준과학연구원에서는 국제표준화기구에서 제정한 국제규격(ISO, PNEUROP, DIN, JIS, AVS 등)에 기반을 둔 터보분자펌프의 특성평가시스템을 자체적으로 설계/제작 하였고, 터보분자펌프 1,000 L/s 급의 Database를 구축하였다. 이것을 토대로 특성평가시스템의 신뢰성 확인과 Feedback을 통한 시제품 개발 및 평가지원을 위해 터보분자펌프 2,500L/s 급의 Database를 구축한다. 터보분자펌프의 배기성능을 나타내는 가장 중요한 항목인 배기속도는 분자류 영역에 따라 상이한 가스($N_2$, He)를 사용하여 Throughput method와 Orifice method 두 가지 방법을 병행하여 측정한다. 측정함에 있어서 측정게이지, 유량계 및 Orifice conductance의 불확도에 의하여 배기 속도에 많은 측정오차를 포함하고 있다. 측정 오차를 줄이기 위하여 1% 이상의 안정성과 4%의 오차만을 허용하는 자전 회전자게이지(SRG)와 $10^{-3}$ mbar-L/s 영역까지의 유량 주입범위를 가지는 불확도 ${\pm}$3%의 정적형 유량시스템(CVFM)을 사용하였다. Orifice method의 경우 고진공영역으로 진입할수록 커질 수밖에 없는 배기속도 측정 불확도를 최소화하기 위해 검증된 유량을 이용한 Conductance 값을 제시하여 두 방법에서 얻은 배기속도의 불연속적인 문제를 해결한다. 본 연구에서는 2,500 L/s 급 터보분자펌프는 무거운 기체 $N_2$와 가벼운 기체 He을 사용하여 압축비의 변화와 분자류 영역에 따른 배기속도 변화를 연구하고, 2,500 L/s 급 터보분자펌프의 측정능력을 검증한다. 차후에 배기속도뿐만 아니라 소비전력, 소음, 진동, 온도 등의 특성평가의 전반적인 사항을 평가하여 터보분자펌프 2,500 L/s 급의 database를 완비해간다. 터보분자펌프 특성평가시스템을 사용한 1,000 L/s 급과 2,500 L/s 급 특성 Data를 비교, 분석하여 신뢰성 파악 및 표준화 방안을 개발하고, 고진공펌프 개발 주체와의 feedback 지원 기능의 infra를 구축한다.

Analysis of R&D Efficiency between Industries : focusing on Technology-innovative SMEs (연구개발 활동 효율성의 산업간 비교 분석: 기술혁신형 중소기업을 대상으로)

  • This study compares and analyzes the efficiency of R&D activities of technology-innovative small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) between industries and proposes ways to improve efficiency. The research samples are 6,708 technology-innovative SMEs, which have received a guarantee by the KIBO from 2008 to 2011. Input variables are the level of R&D personnel, R&D investment, and output variables are patent applications, prototype. Efficiency is measured by the DEA model, and indirect comparisons that are individually measured by industry are performed. As a result of the analysis, the CCR for determining the optimal returns to scale is 0.19, the BCC for determining the optimal input distribution is 0.70, and the SE for determining the optimal output is 0.30. By industry type, the medium and low-tech industries have high CCR and BCC, while the high-end and high-tech industries have high SE. R&D activities need to be operated on an optimal scale through managing R&D performance because there is the inefficiency of scale across the industry. The contribution of the study is to analyze the R&D efficiency of each industry of technology-innovative SMEs by the technology evaluation data of the KIBO.

Quality Characteristics of the Hamburger Patties with Bamboo (Sasa borealis) Leaf Extract with/without Cooked Rice (조릿대 잎 추출물과 밥을 이용한 햄버거 패티의 품질 특성)

  • This study was conducted to develop patties by substituting a portion of meat by bamboo (Sasa borealis) leaf extract (SBE) and/or cooked rice. Four types of patty were prepared: Control, S, SI, and SII. S was the patty for which 2.5% of meat was substituted with SBE. SI and SII were the patties with 25% or 50%, of meat, respectively, substituted with cooked rice containing SBE. The moisture contents of S, SI, and SII patties were not changed. The compositions of fat, cholesterol, and protein of S, SI, and SII patties were decreased. Cooking loss of weight as well as the diameters of S, SI, and SII patties were decreased. pH was increased in S patty, hardness was reduced in SI and SII patties, and malondialdehyde values were lowered in S, SI, and SII patties, compared to control. The S, SI, and SII patties were evaluated higher for color in sensory tests and preference tests. Through preference tests of burgers with these patties, the overall taste of the SI patty was assessed highly among the 4 patties. Therefore, it may be concluded that developing a patty by substituting a portion of meat with SBE and/or cooked rice may be worthwhile.

TDS analysis of graphite divertor tiles

  • 핵융합 장치의 플라즈마 운행동안 토카막 내벽에 도달하는 온도는 최저 $600^{\circ}C$ 이상이다. 또한 플라즈마 자체와 사용자(User)들의 시료로부터 방출되는 입자들에 의한 내벽 충격(damage)은 장기간의 안정적인 운행 및 연구에 심각한 영향을 미친다. 이러한 이유로 토카막 제작시 내벽 보호재의 선정은 매우 높은 비중을 차지한다. Graphite는 높은 융점과 가공의 용이성으로 토카막 내벽의 보호재로 선호되는 물질이다. 그러나 토카막 용기(vessel)에 사용되는 스테인레스 스틸(AISI 316LN)보다 약 50배 이상의 기체 방출율(outgassing rate)을 가진다. 그러므로 장착 이전의 초기 청정화 과정이 매우 중요하며, 특히 400m2의 약 2톤(2000kg)의 graphite가 사용되므로 대량 처리를 할 수 있는 방법의 선정도 함께 개발되어야 한다. 본 연구팀에서는 처음 10개 회사의 시제품을 검토한 후, 최종 2개 회사의 4가지 종류의 시료를 선정하였다. 선정된 시료는 Union Carbide의 ATJ와 Toyo Tanso의 IG-110, IG-43, Ig-430이다. 시료는 비절삭유(oil-free) 가공에 의해 80$\times$2$\times$3 (mm)의 크기로 제작되었고 에탄올과 메탄올 용액에서 초음파 세척되었다. 건조된 시료는 TDS(Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy) 장치에 장착되어 세 단계의 실험을 하였다. 처음은 승온(상온 ~100$0^{\circ}C$)에 의한 방출 기체의 성분 분석, 두 번째는 장기간 (2주) 대기 노출 후 주요 방출 기체의 온도에 따른 변화, 마지막으로는 특정 기체에서의 장기간 보관후, 주요 방출 기체의 온도에 따른 변화를 조사하였다. 다음 그림 1은 본 연구에서 사용된 TDS 장치의 개략도이고 그림 2는 TDS 장치에 장착 직 후와 대기 중 노출된 시료들의 온도증가에 따른 총 압력의 변화이다.

Forging process design of cup shaped large forging using finite element method (유한요소해석을 통한 컵형상 대형단조품의 성형공법 설계)

  • This research developed a new deep-bore, cup-shape, large forging process by combining die forging and free forging methods. In the proposed process, a preform for cup-shape large forging is produced by die forging, and a product with a deep bore is finally manufactured using an open die forging method, which is generally produced using a backward extrusion process. Finite element analysis results showed a higher effective strain distribution with a smaller forging load using the proposed method compared to the backward extrusion method. The production of a prototype with good internal quality using a small press capacity verified the proposed method.
