  • This paper presents a simple method to estimate center of distortion and correct radial distortion from fish-eye lens. If the center of image is not locate that of lens in a straight line, the disadvantage of FOV model is low accurate because of correcting distortion without estimated centre of distortion. We propose a method accurately estimating Distortion center using FOV model and 2D pattern from wide angle lens. Our method determines the center of distortion in least error between straight lines and curves with FOV model. The results of experimental measurements on synthetic and real data are presented.

  • Mediastinal lymph node dissection is a method that increases the long term survival of patients with an esophageal carcinoma. However, dissection of the left mediastinal lymph node is almost impossible, as it is not easy to see. Herein, a left mediastinal lymph node dissection, with thoracoscopy through a cervical incision wound during minimal invasive esophageal surgery, is reported.

  • Transverse and oblique crown-root fractures constitute a major therapeutic problem, particularly in young dentitions. Because crown-root fracture may involve enamel, dentin, pulp, and periodontal tissues, management of the injuries must be modified accordingly. When the fracture line was located under the alveolar crest. there are several methods for crown-root fractured teeth with pulp exposure, such as extruding the root fragment with orthodontic force and restoring it, or intentionally extracting the tooth and replanting it to a position which it can be restored. This case, the fractured tooth is intentionally extracted atraumatically, and replanted by rotating approximately 180 degree into the original socket and fixing with an orthodontic wire. At the 8-month recall examination, the root still showed normal mobility and there was not observed any inflammatory or replacement root resorption in the periapical radiograph.

  • To interact with a virtual object in immersive virtual environment, the target object should be selected quickly and accurately. Conventional 3D ray casting method using a direction of user's hand or head allows the user to select an object quickly. However, accuracy problem occurs when selecting an object using conventional methods among occlusion of objects. In this paper, we propose a region of interest based selection method that enables to select an object among occlusion of objects using a combination of gaze tracking and hand gesture recognition. When a user looks at a group of occlusion of objects, the proposed method recognizes user's gaze input, and then region of interest is set by gaze input. If the user wants to select an object among them, the user gives an activation hand gesture. Then, the proposed system relocates and visualizes all objects on a virtual active window. The user can select an object by a selecting hand gesture. Our experiment verified that the user can select an object correctly and accurately.

  • The PET scanner can detect the photon pair arriving from the source in phantom. The number of light photons released by the crystal(scintillator-BGO or LSO). In recent scintillation crystals in block structures were incorporated into full ring systems, and their resulted marked improvement in spatial resolution and increase in a sensitivity to annihilations. The uniformity of the crystal sensitivity is very important to makes correct information of abnormal states in organs. These factors influenced by the dection efficiency of the scintillators. We have study about the uniformity of crystals to the annihilation, And study about the standard deviation to average counts. The relative standard deviation in central detector groups more uniformed than circumferenced detector groups. It is caused detected quanta of gamma ray by the geometrical factors of PET detector. PET cameras are available with different geometric arrangement and several parallel rings oriented in the axial direction. The center groups from 7th to 40th groups are comparatively uniform and sensitive. But at the circumferenced detectors decreased the sensitivity and uniformity.

  • Purpose: We introduce arthroscopically assisted mini-open rotator cuff repair using anterolateral approach. Operative Technique: Placing lateral decubitus position on general anesthesia, a standard arthroscopic glenohumeral examination is performed to evaluate lesions of shoulder joint through posterior and anterior portal. And then arthroscope is placed in the subacromial space and we evaluate the size of the torn tendon and perform arthroscopic acromioplasty through lateral portal. A 3 to 4 cm skin incision is performed from anterolateral edge of acromion to distal and dissected along to raphe between anterior and middle deltoid. A deltoid retractor is then placed, allowing direct visualization of the rotator cuff and humeral head. As torn tendon is tagged by traction suture, we try to anatomical reduction on the footprint and then perform single row or double row repair of the rotator cuff using suture anchors. To prevent avulsion of the deltoid from the acromion, additional sutures by bone tunnel with acromion and deltoid is performed. Conclusion: This technique is useful procedure to get direct approach to anterior portion of supraspinatus tendon and to need lesser deltoid retraction than portal extension approach due to dividing along to raphe between anterior and middle deltoid. Also it provide better visualization of the superior portion of subscapularis and infraspinatus.

  • Although posterolateral thoracotomy(PLT) has been a standard thoracic incision in resection surgery of the lung for surgeons to achieve a good surgical field, there remains concern about severing a group of thoracic muscles remains. Muscle-sparing vertical thoracotomy (MVT) is an alternative to PLT, which gives cosmetic result and may preserve motion of the shoulder girdle as well as respiratory function of the patient in the early postoperative period. However, surgeons tend not to perfer it because of limited surgical field from the vertical wound made on the lateral thoracic wall. The purpose of this study is to compare the surgical outcomes of PLT versus MVT. We retrospectively reviewed 29 patients(15 who had PLT and 14 who had MVT, organized into those two groups) who had undergone lung resection surgery in our institute. There were no clinical differences between the two groups in terms of operation time, estimated amount of blood loss during the operation, amount of chest drainage on the first and the second postoperative day, duration of chest tube placement, incidence and amount of transfusion, and postoperative complications. We conclude that, from our limited experience, MVT can be applied to lung resection surgery as safely as PLT and that it may have a beneficial role for the patient with compromised lung function in addition to cosmetic effect.

  • Among imaging and treatment devices for small animals, positron emission tomography(PET) causes a change in spatial resolution within a field of view. This is a phenomenon caused by using a small gantry and a thin and long scintillation pixel, and detectors that measure the interaction depth are being developed and researched to solve this problem. In this study, a detector that measures the interaction depth was designed using several scintillator blocks and light guides with different reflector patterns. The scintillator block composed of 4 × 4 arrays of 3 mm × 3 mm × 5 mm scintillation pixels formed four layers, and a light guide was inserted in each layer to configure the entire detector. In order to check whether the interaction depth was measured, a gamma ray interaction was generated at the center of all scintillation pixels to acquire data and then reconstructed into a flood image. The reflector patterns of the light guides inserted between the layers were all different, so the positions of the scintillation pixels for each layer were formed in different locations. It is considered that even spatial resolution can be achieved over all regions of the field of view if all positions of the scintillation pixels thus formed are separated and used for image reconstruction.

  • A detector module measuring a depth of interaction was developed using silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) and two layers of scintillation crystal array treated with multiple reflectors. When reconstructing an image based on a signal obtained by using different types of reflector of each layer, the interaction positions of scintillation pixels and gamma rays could be tracked by utilizing the feature that all scintillation pixels were recorded at different positions. The bottom layer uses a specular reflector, and the top layer uses a diffuse reflector to differently process the size of the signal obtained from the SiPM. The optical grease was used to recude the sharp refractive index change between the layers of scintillator and the SiPM. The signals obtained from the 16 SiPMs were reduced to four signals using the Anger equations, and the images were reconstructed using them. All the scintillation pixels composed of the two layers appeared in the reconstructed image, which distinguished the layer where the scintillation pixels and gamma rays interacted. If the detectors, which measure the interaction depth of two layers using different reflectors, will be applied to preclinical positron emission tomography, the degradation of spatial resolution appearing outside the field of interest could be solved.
