In order to index documents, a thesaurus which consists of terms and relationships between terms is used. When an index term is selected, retrieval performance in the information retrieval system could be improved by using the relationship between the terms in the thesaurus. Recently, the usage of a thesaurus are extended from information retrieval to language and knowledge engineering, but term relationships in a thesaurus are simply represented in equivalence, hierarchy, and association. Particularly the associative relationship is vague in its definition and range as compared with the other relationships, i.e. equivalence, hierarchy, therefore the terms that are selected through associative relationship aren't well controlled. This study examines the relationships of existing thesauri, especially the types and ranges of associative relationship, and suggests the adequate type of associative relationship.

In information storage and retrieval system, controlled vocabularies are generally used to improve the recall ratio and to guide for indexers/users to select correct indexing/searching terms by regulating their forms as well as meanings. Thesaurs, a type of controlled vocabulary, nowdays accept ed by most of database producers. The objective of this study is to develope a method of Korean Language Thesaurus construction. This study covers 1) the definition of thesaurus, 2) a literatural survey on term relations and thesaurus construction method, 3) a suggestion for a practical construction method, 4) the display format of thesuari, and 5) tests and the results.

The purpose of this study is to examine the establishment and development of Daesoon Thought Thesaurus. Specifically, this study examined the matters to be considered in the stage of Thesauri planning according to the Thesauri Construction process : presents the methods and standards of Thesauri Construction according to processes such as identification of the indexing policy, establishment of Thesauri system, collection of vocabulary, selection of preferred term, clustering of the terms, establishment of term relationships, overall adjustment, Thesauri test, proofreading by professional display, maintenance and updating. Since religion information is unique or totally different from the information in other areas, it is most important to construct the Thesauri suitable for system after carefully recognizing the concept of religion terms.

In these days, there are many studies to improve the effectiveness of retrieval systems. One method is to use thesaurus in the systems. But the establishment of the saurus independently is very difficult and requiers a great deal of time and labor. The goal of this research is to examine which problems there are. The texts used in the thesis were "Thesaurus of ERIC descriptors(7th ed.1977)" and "KEID Thesaurus(1981)" established by translation. The results of the thesis were as follows, First, there were many differences of equivalence classes of terms between English and Korean. Second, the errors of translation made words inadequate to use as a descriptors. Third, because of differences of traditions, thought and culture, associative relationship and hierarchical relation did not coincide between terns, Fourth, because the terms of the thesaurus of ERIC descriptors serve Western usages, the terms used in Korea were not or insufficient. So it way necessary to add our own therms. As mentioned above, translating a thesaurus for use as a documentation language for indexing and retrieval is not the optimum way of building up a thesaurus.

Until now, the meaning of terms in most of thesauri has been indirectly presented through relationships and scope notes. However, as thesaurus has been expanded quantitatively, it has become difficult to understand meaning of terms clearly using those relationships and scope notes. Though some thesauri take the form of 'thesaurus dictionary' in order to present the meaning of descriptors, the contents and forms of provided definitions are not satisfying. As standardized definitions of terms integrate into thesaurus on the basis of necessity of definitions providing meaning of terms, this study has shown a possibility for further development of thesaurus.

인권 시소러스는 인권 관련 색인어 작성시 특정성 및 일관성을 유지하고, 다양한 이용자 계층의 정보 검색의 효율성을 증진시키고자 하는 일반적인 목적과 함께, 모호하게 사용되고 있는 인권 용어의 개념화를 통해 전문가 뿐 아니라 일반인들도 손쉽게 인권 전문정보에 접근할 수 있는 토대를 마련하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 인권 관련어로 유의미하게 사용되는 용어군을 수집한 후 실험대상군을 설정하여 어느 정도의 관련성을 가지는가를 실험한 것이다.

본 연구에서는 불논리검색의 단점을 보완하기 위한 가장 강력한 검색 모형인 퍼지검색과 확률검색의 효율을 불논리검색과 상호비교하였다. 실험데이터로 정보학 분야의 한국어 test collection인 KT Test Set을 이용하였고 색인어와 색인어의 문헌내 출현빈도를 바탕으로 퍼지시소러스를 생성하여 시소러스의 NT, BT로 탐색식을 확장한 다음 각각에 대해 3가지 검색을 행하고 검색효율을 평균재현율과 평균정확률로 측정하였다. 실험결과 검색효율은 재현율에서는 확률검색, 불논리검색, 퍼지검색 순으로. 정확률에서는 퍼지검색, 확률검색, 불논리검색 순으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study is to present solutions to expanding added-term relations which will fit new information retrieval environment. This report reviews standards for ISO 2788 and ANSI/NISO Z 39.19, and compares and analyzes 20 thesaurus added-term relations currently used to find out problems and limitations. Based on findings of the study, this report suggests how to expand thesaurus added-term relations to accomodate changes in information retrieval environment. In order to solve those problems, this report presents solutions to expanding added-term relationships as follows: First, definition was separated from scope note and scope note is categorized by type. Second, principles for the use of qualifiers are presented. Third, principles for expanding of descriptor term information are presented.

본 연구에서는 시소러스를 구축하기 위해 필요한 디스크립터 수집원으로써 이용자 로그데이터를 분석하여 후보 디스크립터의 외형적 특성을 분석하였다. 분석대상인 이용자 로그데이터는 국내 검색엔진가운데 야후와 라이코스를 대상으로 하였다. 분석결과, 이용자들은 대부분 검색어로써 명사와 복합명사를 사용하였으며, 조사 '의'이외에는 다른 품사로 이루어진 검색어는 거의 존재하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 검색어로써 이용자들은 고유명사(외국어 포함)를 많이 사용함으로써, 국내외 지침에서 권고하는 고유명사의 최소한 사용지침과 실제 이용자 사이의 이용행태와의 차이를 알 수 있었다. 따라서 국내외 시소러스 개발지침을 수용하면서, 이용자 중심의 시소러스를 개발하기 위해서는 전거어나 유사어 사전을 대등관계와 연동하여 개발하는 것을 고려해야 한다.

We present development results for a Hangul thesaurus which was provided to improve performance of the intelligent information retrieval system. The important stages and methods in the process of term acquisition, classification, creation of the consistency-effectiveness relationship using HiTEL menu and text of dictionary are described. To cany out our study we have built a thesaurus management system and also describe its utility functions.
