This technical note introduces a newly-proposed concept of deep horizontal drillhole disposal of spent nuclear fuel, and considers how it can be applied in the Korean environment. This disposal concept, in which high-level radioactive waste is disposed in deep horizontal drillholes installed with directional drilling technique, is expected to have great advantages over the existing deep mined repository concept in economics and safety. Since this concept is still at the idea level, however, it is necessary for worldwide expert groups to demonstrate its safety and performance. In addition, the development of guidelines by the regulatory body should be supported. The Korean circumstances, which include a narrow territory and a high population density, as well as the amount of spent nuclear fuel, make the NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) phenomenon very strong and the siting conditions difficult. Under these conditions, if the disposal section of deep horizontal drillhole concept can be located at the continental shelf, with a stable environment, rather than in a coastal land area, it is expected to alleviate the psychological anxiety of the local community and stakeholders. Moreover, even when constructing a centralized deep mined repository in the future, it is necessary to consider locating the repository in the continental shelf.

There has been low use of local information services that public libraries provide, and most of those services are limited only through in-house reading or checkout. Motivated by these issues, the study has developed a mobile application (app, hereafter) entitled as LibPass (a combination of Library and Pass) to propose new local information services that reflect the information needs of users. Regarding the design of LibPass, contents of LibPass are composed of the characteristics of local resources so that users can easily search for information about local culture and tour resources through mobile app. That is, it aims to provide efficient information services on local resources by providing information on accommodations, outdoor programs, and specialized libraries, as well as introducing tour resources. Above all, the services are provided with a single card issued by the National Library of Korea and is convenient to use anywhere in the country. It not only secures reliability and currency by utilizing various contents developed by public institutions, but also provides functions to facilitate specialized services for the local information of libraries. Based on the previous research, the present study derives the factors of quality evaluation of mobile tour information services; it constructs objects of LibPass application by analyzing existing applications and develops the prototype based on logical entity relationship model. This model can contribute to the increased use of local information services and, promotes the public's positive perception of the libraries through user-friendly applications.
With the recent increase in dementia patients due to aging, measures to prevent their wandering behavior and disappearance are urgently needed. To solve this problem, various authentication methods and location detection techniques have been introduced, but the security problem of personal authentication and a system that can check indoor and outdoor overall was lacking. In order to solve this problem, various authentication methods and location detection techniques have been introduced, but it was difficult to find a system that can check the security problem of personal authentication and indoor/outdoor overall. In this study, we intend to propose a system that can identify personal authentication, basic health status, and overall location indoors and outdoors by using wristband-type wearable devices in a private blockchain environment. In this system, personal authentication uses ECG, which is difficult to forge and highly personally identifiable, Bluetooth beacon that is easy to use with low power, non-contact and automatic transmission and reception indoors, and DGPS that corrects the pseudorange error of GPS satellites outdoors. It is intended to detect wandering behavior and abnormal signs by locating the patient. Through this, it is intended to contribute to the prompt response and prevention of disappearance in case of wandering behavior and abnormal symptoms of dementia patients living at home or in nursing homes.

According to the Facility Management System (FMS) operated by the Korea Authority of Land & Infrastructure Safety, it is expected that the number of aging facilities that have been in use for more than 30 years will increase rapidly to 13.9% in 2019 and 34.5% in 2929, and end up with a social problem. In addition, with the revision of "Common Application of Seismic Design Criteria" by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in 2017, it is mandatory to re-evaluate all existing road facilities and if necessary seismic reinforcement should be done to minimize the magnitude of earthquake damage and perform normal road functions. The seismic performance management-decision support technology currently used in seismic performance management practice in Korea only determines the earthquake-resistance reinforcement priority based on the qualitative index value for the seismic performance of individual facilities. However with this practice, normal traffic functions cannot be guaranteed. A new seismic performance management decision support technology that can provide various judgment data required for decision making is needed to overcome these shortcomings and better perform seismic performance management from a road network perspective.

The monitoring of electricity consumption using Internet of Things (IoT) technology is attracting attention as a technology to reduce operation costs of smart farms. In this study, we propose a method to apply a real-time electrical consumption monitoring system (the e-Gauge system) and utilization of the collected data real-time while a melon-producing smart farm is in operation. For this purpose, the electrical consumption data for the individual smart-farm facilities such as boilers, nutrient distribution systems, automatic controllers, circulation fans, boiler controllers, and other IoT-related utilities were collected during three months of melon cultivation period. By using the monitoring results, the electrical energy consumption pattern was analyzed as an example, and necessary considerations needed to optimally utilize the measurement data were suggested. This paper will be useful in lowering the technological implementation barriers for new researchers to build a electrical consumption monitoring system and reducing trial and errors in the usage of the generated data.

Mount Tai, with an elevation of 1,532 meters, has a reputation as ''The Most Revered of the Five Sacred Mountains (五嶽獨尊)", despite not being the highest mountain in China. A guidebook is a book or pamphlet that contains an introduction and description of specific activities or facilities, especially detailed and accurate information about scenic spots, which provide superior vistas to than other commercially publicized locations. The study aims to investigate Mount Tai's landscape characteristics by analyzing the landscape types and elements, the Kernel Density, the Mean Center and the Standard Deviational Ellipse of the landscape elements appearing in guidebooks introducing Mount Tai. The research results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the landscape type characteristics of Mount Tai are dominated by natural landscapes, which are different from what was shown highlighted in poems and Big Data as they proposed that the landscape characteristics of Mount Tai is dominated by human activities. Second, from the perspective of subdivided landscape types, the landscape elements that appeared in Mount Tai are topography, structure, architecture, plants, semantics, human beings and image orderly, based on the proportion of landscape elements. Third, from the perspective of landscape elements by times series, "Fengshan (封禅)", "sacrifices (祭祀)" and "legends" mostly appeared in the 1950s and 1980s, and after the 1990s, "climbing" and "overlooking" mostly appeared. Fourth, the landscape elements of Mount Tai are concentrated in Daiding (岱顶) and Dai Temple (岱庙) in all periods in terms of spatial distribution. This will become an important space for Mount Tai scenic spots in the future. Moreover, as a whole, the landscape elements of Mount Tai have changed from the concentrated distribution form in Mount Tai scenic spot to the scattered distribution form including Mount Tai and Tai'an City. This will provide necessary enlightenment for the landscape preservation and the re-production of guidebooks of Mount Tai scenic spot in the future.

Lots of river embankments or levees in Korea are quite so old and unknown the origin even. The river deposits, moreover, obtainable easily somewhere were used for materials of embankment without any technical considerations such as the influence soil properties and construction methods on embankment stability. It's natural that safety would be threatened if the water level rises due to flood or rainfall when it comes to abnormal weather conditions, especially. From this point of view, enlargement of embankment, irrigation works, etc. are in progress recently at the situation from a reinforcement work. However, taking influence of soil properties and construction methods on embankment stability into account against cracking or piping is still insufficient. Fragmentary design criteria or irrational construction methods are applied rather as the case may be. In this study, therefore, a way to estimate piping and cracking resistance (Sherard, 1953) has been introduced and reevaluated for practical use with an eye to material properties and its applicability to piping-experienced embankments was examined. Piping possibility was also examined in the present design criteria and compared. In view of the results achieved, it reflects that both yield piping possibility. But it's still necessary to complement how to judge and verify piping resistance of given soils with gradation curves by the representative curve, quantitatively and that piping resistance should consider compaction effects as well.
In order to understand how to increase the use of virtual training content at K University's online lifelong education institute, this study examined the use experience, content recognition, field practice replacement, and requirements, focusing on the examples of operating institutions. To this end, 12 institutions that operated virtual training contents distributed by the K University Online Lifelong Education Center in 2020 were selected for in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis was conducted on the interviews of 11 institutions. As a result of the analysis, first, the experience of using the contents of the virtual training operating institution was aimed at changing the educational environment, supplementing theoretical learning, and improving the sense of practice. Second, according to a survey on the recognition of virtual training content, if the importance and utilization of the content are high, it can be replaced by on-site practice in non-face-to-face classes, such as experiences of facilities and equipment, attracting interest and attention. Third, in many cases, the perception of replacement for field practice is not unreasonable to use as a pre-training material for field practice, but it is difficult to replace field practice. Fourth, content quality improvements can be summarized as content quality improvement, content access and manipulation improvement, dedicated device development, training for instructors, and curriculum systematization. Fifth, institutional requirements include improving the quality of virtual training content itself, equipment support, curriculum systemization and characterization, systematic curriculum and detailed content sharing, detailed guidance on using virtual training content, introducing how to use content, and recruiting instructors. This study is meaningful in that it sought ways to improve the utilization of virtual training content based on the perception of virtual training content operating institutions.

As indoor air pollution has emerged as a social issue since the COVID-19 pandemic, pollution management in large-scale facilities has been recognized as an important task. For this purpose, this study proposes real-time pollution level detection using sensors and efficient control path setting using Dijkstra algorithm as key technologies. In addition, by introducing outlier determination algorithm and priority algorithm, we propose ways to increase the reliability of the data and enable efficient control work. The outlier determination algorithm describes the process of identifying and processing outliers based on sensor data in an environmental monitoring system. It describes in detail the process of averaging the recent 10 sensor data, calculating the Z-score to detect outliers, and removing and replacing the data determined to be outliers. The priority algorithm describes the process of establishing an efficient control path in consideration of the pollution level of each region. It suggests how to select the most polluted areas first and use them as a starting point to set the control path. In addition, it introduces an iterative process of detecting and responding to the pollution level in real time, which allows the system to be continuously optimized and to respond to environmental pollution. Through this, it is expected to increase the reliability and efficiency of the environmental monitoring system through outlier judgment algorithms and priority algorithms, thereby quickly identifying and responding to pollution situations.
Purpose : Seoul National University Hospital developed a group counseling program for the terminal cancer patients and their family members. This program consists of each of doctor, nutritionist, nurse, pharmacist, and social worker to provide them with the information and to enhance their ability to cope with terminal cancer. This research aims to introduce this new program per se, and to appreciate its validity and applicability to the terminal cancer patients and their family members by analyzing the concerns and specific questions of the participants. Methods : The methodological approach employed in this research is 1996 content analysis of the group counseling reports, and interview of the 312 participants. The analysis includes the general characteristics of the subjects, family relationship to the patients, times of attendance to the group session, source of information to the program. Results : The participants consist of 261 family members(84%) and 51 patients(16%). Majority responded to the program with a single-attendance. Diagnosis are mainly lung cancer, stomach cancer, liver cancer. The ratio of participants by family members is decreased in the order of spouse, children, daughter-in-law, brothers and sisters, and parents. The source of information to the program is largely through medical staff(69%) as compared with posters in the hospital (26%). The participants are interested primarily in the medical information. Their interests are various, such as pain control, patient care, nutrition, psychosocial problem and etc. Conclusion : This program is characterized largely as a family-supporting program which primarily offers information for terminal cancer. This program is a sort of a hospice program, which maximizes the present quality of living of the terminal cancer patients as long as life continues by encouraging them to live with terminal cancer. Thus, this group program can be employed as an active support network for the patients and their family. In order to develop comprehensive care-giving services, it is required to have 24-hour telephone service, hospice facilities, home care service, and communication between the referral hospitals and the primary care physicians, in particular. Such a development of services is the ultimate goal for improving care. But the immediate goal of the program is to make possible better education for the patients and their family to live with terminal cancer.
