  • Next-generation wireless/mobile networks are envisioned to have an IP-based infrastructure. One of the research challenges for next-generation all IP-based networks is the design of intelligent mobility management technologies that have a seamless mobility and minimal signaling overhead. Recently, HMIPv6 was proposed by the IETF for efficient mobility management. HMIPv6 reduces the amount of signaling and improves the performance of MIPv6 in terms of handover latency. However the MAP can be a single point of performance bottleneck when there are a lot of local movements. HMIPv6 can cause signaling overhead due to the unnecessary location update of idle mobile nodes. Therefore, in this paper, we propose the dynamic paging Mobile IPv6 that reduces the signaling cost of the unnecessary location updates using IP paging and organizes dynamically optimal MAP area according to user's mobility and traffic. We show performance results that are obtained from the average total location update cost and packet delivery cost.

  • MTC(Machine Type Communications), providing a variety of services anytime and anywhere by connecting the cellular network to the machine and things without human intervention, is being considered as a major challenge of the next-generation communications. Currently, When a massive MTC devices simultaneously connect to the network, each MTC device needs an independent access authentication process. Because of this process, authentication signaling congestion and overload problems will cause in LTE-Advanced. In this paper, we propose a group-based authentication protocol and a key management protocol. For managing the MTC devices as group units, the proposed protocol elects a group leader and authentications only once with the core network. After the authentication is completed, a group leader manages the rest members and MME(Mobility Management Entity) by constructing a binary tree. Finally, the propose protocol analysis show that the proposed protocol not only can reduces the authentication signaling which generated in between the MTC devices and the core network but also can manages the MTC devices, efficiently.

  • As progress on image processing, computer vision and display technologies aroused market's interests on generation and consumption of various types of media, interests on UWV media are also increasing. In context of consumption of UWV media, to effectively manage load of servers and resources of end terminal devices and provide user-derived services, technology which enables users to select and consume interested regions of media seems to be needed. Here, this paper proposes a method for description and transmission of spatial relationships among media, which composes UWV, by expanding MPEG-CI and Layout signaling to enable users' selective consumption of UWV media.

  • The fast advance in the VoIP technologies gives a rich opportunity to create different kind of VoIP applications such as IP telephony services. The application level call signaling protocols such as ITU-T H.323 and IETF SIP provide the communication functions of end-to-end call setup and release. Currently, there is a lot of H.323 based VoIP products in the market, however SIP is considered as a suitable protocol for supporting applications in IP environments, so SIP based VoIP products and services begin to appear. In this paper, firstly we present the characteristics of some possible SIP based applications and describe the design and implementation of a VoIP example service named PC-to-PC Internet telephony service using the developed SIP network components. The PC-to-PC Internet telephony service and User Agent are developed in MS window 98/2000 using visual C/C++, and Proxy server and Registrar in Linux 7.0 using C, respectively.

  • SIP-based tightly coupled conference, which has a centrally located conference server for controlling and management, can be classified several models according to location of focus and mixer. These are centralized server model, endpoint server model, media server component model and distributed mixing model. However each model has its strength and weakness. In this paper, we propose and implement a SIP-based effective hybrid-type conference model which decreases amount of SIP signaling messages, lowers load of server media mixer, and can be easily expandable to large scale conference. In this model, when the number of participants exceeds a pre-defined limit, the conference server selects some participants which posses specific functions and let them share functions of notifications of conference state event package and media mixing. When each participant subscribes conference state event package to the server, it can indicates its possession of such functions by a specific header message. The server stores the indication to the conference information database, and later uses it to select participants for load sharing. The performance of our proposed model is evaluated by experiments.

  • Mobility management is one of the most important research issues in 6LoWPAN, Since the IP-WSN application domain is expanded to real-time applications such as healthcare and surveillance systems, a fast and seamless handover becomes an important criterion in 6LoWPAN. However, a draft of IETF 6LoWPAN WG for mobility support does not decrease handover delay. Although LoWMob supports a fast intra-PAN handover. it can be supported when the infrastructure node has the location information of the other nodes in the mobile node's moving direction. In this paper, we propose a fast and seamless mobility protocol to support intra-PAN handover, named intra-MARIO. In intra-MARIO, a parent node of the mobile node preconfigures its handover to the PAN when the parent node detects its movement, thereby reducing the handover delay. Since intra-MARIO also supports route optimization, the mobile node can communicate with its corresponding nodes through the optimal route. In this paper, we analysis the signaling cost and evaluates that the handover can be completed in 20ms by simulation.

  • In the host-based Mobile IPv6, a mobile node is responsible for doing the signaling to its home agent to enable session continuity as it moves between subnets. To remove the mobile node's signalling processing load, the network-based Mobile IPv6 has been proposed recently. It allows session continuity for a mobile node without its involvement in mobility management. The proxy mobility agent in the network performs the signaling and does the mobility management on behalf of the mobile node. However, to make secure communications for a mobile node, security mechanisms against diverse attacks should be adopted. To do this, first of all security threats to the network-based Mobile IPv6 should be also identified and analyzed. Potential attack objectives may be to consume network services at the cost of a legitimate mobile node and, eavesdropping and fabrication of user traffic through interception of a mobile node's communications. This paper identifies and discusses security threats to the network-based Mobile IPv6 in details. The results of threats analysis are limited to threats that are peculiar to the network-based Mobile IPv6 except threats to IPv6 in general.
