  • This study analyzed the development stage and change management necessity of the construction IT system through existing research and literature review, and used WordCloud, one of the text mining techniques, to analyze current construction trends and major issues. A Study on the Advantage with Staged Construction Procedures and Full-Height Rigid Facing of Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Retaining Walls (보강토옹벽에서 단계시공과 일체형 강성벽체의 이점에 관한 연구)

  • To construct an ideal geosynthetic reinforced soil retaining wall (GRS-RW), the facing of the wall should be flexible enough to accommodate a large deformation of the supporting ground and to develop the large tensile force in reinforcements during wall construction as long as the stability is ensured, but should be rigid enough to be stiff and stable as well as durable and aesthetically acceptable for a long life time when the wall is in service. Facing conditions during the construction and service of the wall are quite different. So it is difficult to be satisfied all these conditions with the current construction method which is mainly used in reinforced wall construction in Korea. Most of this contradiction could be solved by the staged construction procedure. According to the results of cases and references analyses, stage construction procedures make it possible to accommodate large deformation of the supporting ground and backfill without losing the stability of the wall, and to derive the tensile strength of reinforcement causing deformation of the facing. When the facing is a full-height rigid one, it also appeared almost impossible to occur a local shear failure of the active zone, and pull-out failure of reinforcements. Therefore, GRS-RWs having a full-height rigid facing have been constructed by the staged construction procedures that matched well with the theory of reinforced soil, which had outstanding stability and durability, and thus could be used for railways and bridge abutments in Korea in the future.

  • At present, the actual condition is that Korean modular structures are limited to a low rise detached house and military barracks. And there is no standardized structural design method of stacked modular structure. Accordingly, in general, they don't review impact force in the stage of stacking and installing a module, the effect which wind load has on a structure in the stage of lifting, and inertial force occurring in the stage of lifting or transporting a module in the process of constructing a structure. Therefore, this study investigated the construction method of modular system to be studied in stages, and decided on the position to which load was applied and boundary condition in structural analysis at each construction stage. Besides, inertial force according to each speed was calculated in the lifting and wheeled transport of module. And we calculated impact load according to lifting speed in module stacking and installation work and wind load due to instantaneous wind speed in the installation work by lifting. On the basis of the suggested method, in the modular system to be studied, it carried out review of structure by changing determining conditions of load being applied by construction stage, such as in the stage of lifting, in the stage of transport, and in the stage of installation, and drew construction conditions securing stability structurally.

  • Recently automated construction system is attended in construction domains because of the increase of aged workers and the shortage of the experienced. So, the proportion of automated construction in Korea is expected to be getting higher from partially automated robots to full automation systems. However, it is difficult for the automated system to operate flexibly like the human based on various work condition. In the result, the higher the level of automation in the system is, the less efficient the automated system work in the site. So, it's necessary the development component design to compensate for the flexibility shortage of the system. Therefore, this study proposes the development process to component design suitable for automated construction system using QFD technique.

Hanger Tension Variation of Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge in Construction (시공중 자정식 현수교의 행거 장력변화)

  • Because the stiffening girders are constructed after the installation of hangers for typical suspension bridge, no additional tensioning to hangers in construction is necessary for this bridge type in which main cable is earth-anchored. However, for self-anchored suspension bridge, hangers are installed after temporarily supporting stiffening girders constructed in previous stage. Therefore, initial tension is required on installing hangers. Tension of hangers varies as the construction proceeds. Hence, it is necessary to determine the most efficient method of installing hangers among several methods. This study presents finite element procedures and the algorithms of construction stage analysis to simulate construction processes. Geometric nonlinear analysis scheme is also included. The most effective method regarding the installation of hangers is presented through the examples of actual bridge model.

  • This research proposes a new risk analysis model in order to guarantee successful performance of construction projects. The risk analysis model, called Construction Risk Analysis System(CRAS), is introduced to help contractors Identify project risks through RBS and through the procedures in risk analysis model. The proposed CRAS model consists of three phases. First step, CRAS model can help contractors decide whether or not they bid for a project by analysing risks involved in the project. Second step, the influence diagraming, decision tree and Monte Carlo simulation are used as tools to analyze and evaluate project risks quantitatively. Third step, Monte Carlo simulation is used to assess risk for groups of activities with probabilistic branching and calendars. Consequently, it will help contractors identify risk elements in their projects and quantify the impact of risk on project time and cost.

  • Frequent design changes or unnecessary project executions due to illogical practice, lack of feasibility study and, hasty drive have raised problems of budget waste in Korean construction projects. Since the MOCT (Ministry of Construction & Transportation) published Master Plan for budget efficiency for government projects, there have been a lot of policy efforts for budget saving. However, it has been pointed out that cost management at the pre-construction phase, which greatly influences the cost still remains imperfect. The target cost for government clients is not being estimated reasonably, and cost controlling at the pre-construction phase is not yet being carried out properly for keeping the budget. Therefore, improved construction cost management at the pre-construction phase was proposed in this paper. The cost management systems of advanced countries were investigated for it, and the issues were drawn from the cost management systems of these countries. On the basis of the issues, the present conditions and problems of domestic construction cost management at the pre-construction phase were analyzed for suggestion.
