The Characteristics of the flow field through cylinders with in-line and staggered arrangements were calculated by vortex method. Vortex distributions and velocity profiles around the cylinders with in-line and staggered arrangements were simulated at the pitch ratio of Pt/D=1.25~2.0 and Reynolds number of Re=$4.0{\times}10^1{\sim}4.0{\times}10^4$. As the results the vortices of clockwise at the upper separation point cylinder and the vortices of anticlockwise at the lower separation point of each cylinder were generated at both in-line and staggered arrangements. The generation of the reverse flow in the rear region of the cylinders was caused by the pitch ratio and Reynolds number, the boundary region was at the pitch ratio of Pt/D=1.5 and Reynolds number of Re=$4.0{\times}10^2{\sim}4.0{\times}10^3$ in case of in-line arrangement and was at the pitch ratio of Pt/D=1.4 and Reynolds number of Re=$4.0{\times}10^1{\sim}4.0{\times}10^2$ in case of staggered arrangement.

For the purpose of recording polarization of the earth's atmosphere, the entire sky was photographed using the all-sky camera when the Sun was just above the horizon. The ratio and width of polarization were defined using the photograph, and a method to measure them was developed. Time-series photography of the polarization ratio and its width enabled us to qualitatively analyze the polarization phenomena which changes depending on the weather conditions. Findings indicated that polarization was co-related with air pollutants in a meaningful way. The polarization phenomena of the Earth's atmosphere are influenced by air pollutants. The more air pollutants exist in the air, the lower polarization ratio and the bigger polarization width it has. It is suggested that air pollutants disperses more photons, which makes it possible to observe the polarization phenomena in the vast area of the sky.
Conditional correlation between financial time series plays an important role in risk management, asset allocation and portfolio selection and therefore diverse efforts for modeling conditional correlations in multivariate-GARCH processes have been made in last two decades. In particular, CCC (cf. Bollerslev, 1990) and DCC(dynamic conditional correlation, cf. Engle, 2002) models have been commonly used since they are relatively parsimonious in the number of parameters involved. This article is concerned with DCC modeling for multivariate GARCH processes in comparison with CCC specification. Various multivariate financial time series are analysed to illustrate possible advantages of DCC over CCC modeling.

The Flowfield characteristics of a square prism having a detached splitter plate at the wake region were investigated by visualization of the flow field using PIV. The experimental parameters were the width ratios(H/B=0.5~1.5) of the splitter plate to the prism width and the gap ratios (G/B=0~2) between the prism and the splitter plate. As the results the Strouhal number measured at the wake region of the detached splitter plate was decreased with the width ratio and the gap ratio. The clockwise vortex at the upside of the splitter plate and counterclockwise vortex at the downside were represented, the size of these vortices were increased with the width of the splitter plate. The reverse flow was represented at the wake region of the square prism having a detached splitter plate, the size of this reverse flow was increased with the width of the splitter plate.

This study was conducted upon the premise that index terms display the intellectual structure of a specific subject field. In this study, and attempt was made to grasp the intellectual structure of Library and Information. Science by clustering the index terms of the journals of the related academic societies at the Library of National Assembly - such as the Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management, the Journal of the Korean Library and Information Science Society, and the Journal of the Korean Society for Library and Information Science. Through the course of the study, index term clusters were generated based on the linkage of the index terms and the frequency of co-occurrence, and moreover, time periods analysis was conducted along with studies on first-appearing terms, in order to clarify the trend and development process of the Library and Information Science. This study also analysed the difference between two intellectual structure by comparing the structure generated by index term clusters with the existing structure of traditional classification systems.

The purpose of this study is investigate the research trend on digital humanities. Previous studies focused on analyzing representative cases and national policies, not overall research trends in the digital humanities field. To this problem, this study intends to identify the intellectual structure of the digital humanities by adopting bibliometric approach. In this study, 1,765 articles retrieved from Web of Science and 514 records from RISS were analyzed to investigate research trends. Structural topic models were applied to examine research topics and to grasp the time-series trend. The results show that humanities-based convergence studies and digitization were main research interests in both side. In Korea, research topics related to cultural contents and storytelling were prominent, while in terms of providing digitized data, library and information science field was one of the important research topic abroad.

Automatic tracking of vehicles is important to accurately estimate the traffic information including vehicle speeds in video-based traffic measurement systems. Because of the limited field of view, the range of visual tracking with a single camera is restricted. In order to enlarge the tracking range for better chance of monitoring the vehicle behaviors, a tracking with consecutive multiple video sequences is necessary. This parer proposes a carefully designed rule-based vehicle racking scheme and apply it for the tracking for two well synchronized video sequences. In the scheme, almost all possible cases that can appear in the video-based vehicle tracking are considered to make rules. Also, the rule based scheme is augmented with Kalman filter. The result of tracking can be successfully used to collect data such as temporal variation of vehicle speed and behavior of individual vehicle behaviors in the enlarged tracking region.

This paper presents a new algorithm for surface segmentation and feature description. In the first stage of proposed algorithm, the signature of an edge image of object is extracted. The signature technique represents a surface using the distance from the mass center to the boundary of the image as a function of angle rotating counterclockwise. If there exists a range in the angle axis where more than two signatures form a closed curve, we can conclude there is a surface inside the range. Using this feature of the signature, surface can be segmented. The surface features such as number of vertices, number of edges, convex and type of surface can also be extracted from segmented surfaces. This algorithm has distinguished advantages; it can easily recover the lost part in the edge image using the curve fitting method; it extracts surface features correctly regardless of the rotation of the surface in 3-D space.

It is very important to detect land cover/land use change from the past and to use it for future urban plan. This paper investigated the application of Landsat satellite imagery for detecting urban growth and assessing its impact on surface temperature in the region. Land cover/land use change detection was carried out by using 30m resolution Landsat satellite images and hierarchial approach was introduced to detect more detail change on the changing area through high resolution aerial photos. Also, surface temperature according to land cover/land use was calculated from Landsat TM thermal infrared data and compared with real temperature to analyze the relationship between urban expansion and surface temperature. As a result, the urban expansion has raised surface radiant temperature in the urbanized area. The method using remote sensing data based on GIS was found to be effective in monitoring and analysing urban growth and in evaluating urbanization impact on surface temperature.

Dynamic responses were measured using long-term monitoring system for Uldolmok tidal current pilot power plant which is one of jacket-type offshore structures. Among the dynamic quantities, the tilt angle was chosen because the low frequency response components can be precisely measured by dynamic tiltmeter, and the natural frequencies and modal damping ratio were successfully identified using proposed LS-FDD (least squared frequency domain decomposition) method. And the effects of tidal height and tidal current velocity on the variation of natural frequencies and modal damping ratios were investigated in time and frequency domain. Also the non-parametric models were tested to model the relationship between tidal conditions and modal properties such as natural frequencies and damping ratios.
