Summed area table allows filtering of arbitrary-width box regions for every pixel in constant time per pixel. This characteristic makes it beneficial in image processing applications where the sum or average of the surrounding pixel intensity is required. Although calculating the summed area table of an image data is primarily a memory bound job consisting of row or column-wise summation, previous works had to endure excessive access to the high latency global memory in order to exploit data parallelism. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm for generating the summed area table in the GPGPU environment where the input is decomposed into square sub-images with intermediate data that are propagated between them. By doing so, the global memory access is almost halved compared to the previous methods making an efficient use of the available memory bandwidth. The results show a substantial increase in performance.

A three-dimensional Lagrangian explicit time-integration finite element code for analyzing the dynamic impact phenomena was developed. It uses four node tetrahedral elements. In order to consider the effects of strain rate hardening, strain hardening and thermal softening, which are frequently observed in high-velocity deformation phenomena, Johnson-Cook model is used as constitutive model. For more accurate and robust contact force computation, the defense node contact algorithm was adopted and implemented. In order to evaluate the performance of the newly developed three-dimensional hydrocode NET3D, numerical simulations of the oblique impact of mild steel plate by mild steel sphere were carried out. Ballistic limit about various oblique angle between 0 degree and 80 degree was estimated through a series of simulations with different initial velocities of sphere. Element eroding by equivalent plastic strain was applied to mild steel spheres and targets. Ballistic limits and fracture characteristics obtained from simulation were compared with experimental results conducted by Finnegan et al. From numerical studies, the following conclusions were reached. (1) Simulations could successfully reproduce the key features observed in experiment such as tensile failure termed "disking"at normal impacts and outwards bending of partially formed plus segments termed "hinge-mode"at oblique impacts. (2) Simulation results fur 60 degrees oblique impact at 0.70 km/s and 0.91 km/s were compared with experimental results and Eulerian hydrocode CTH simulation results. The Lagrangian code NET3D is superior to Eulerian code CTH in the computational accuracy. Agreement with the experimentally obtained final deformed cross-sections of the projectile is excellent. (3) Agreement with the experimental ballistic limit data, particularly at the high-obliquity impacts, is reasonably good. (4) The simulation result is not very sensitive to eroding condition but slightly influenced by friction coefficient.

For real-time precise GPS data processing such as a long baseline network RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) survey, PPP (Precise Point Positioning) and monitoring of ionospheric/tropospheric delays, it is necessary to guarantee accuracy comparable to IGS (International GNSS Service) precise orbit with no latency. As a preliminary study for determining near real-time satellite orbits, the general procedures of satellite orbit determination, especially the dynamic approach, were studied. In addition, the transformation between terrestrial and inertial reference frames was tested to integrate acceleration. The IAU 1976/1980 precession/nutation model showed a consistency of 0.05 mas with IAU 2000A model. Since the IAU 2000A model has a large number of nutation components, it took more time to compute the transformation matrix. The classical method with IAU 2000A model was two times faster than the NRO (non-rotating origin) approach, while there is no practical difference between two transformation matrices.
In this paper, we propose an efficient technique for the animation of flexible thin objects. Mass-spring model was employed to represent the flexible objects. Till now, many techniques have used the mass-spring model to generate plausible animation of soft objects. A straight-forward approach to the animation with mass-spring model is explicit Euler method, but the explicit Euler method has serious disadvantage that it suffers from 'instability problem'. The implicit integration method is a possible solution to overcome the instability problem. However, the most critical flaw of the implicit method is that it involves a large linear system. This paper presents a fast animation technique for mass-spring model with approximated implicit method. The proposed technique stably updates the state of n mass-points in O(n) time when the number of total springs are O(n). We also consider the interaction of the flexible object and air in order to generate plausible results.

In this study, advanced (fluid-structure interaction (FSI)) analysis system has been developed in order to predict turbine cascade performance with blade deformation effect due to aerodynamic loads. Intereference effects due to the relative movement of the rotor cascade with respect to the stator cascade are also considered. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with one equation Spalart-Allmaras and two-equation k-ω SST turbulence models are solved to accurately predict fluid dynamic loads considering flow separation effects. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the (coupled Newmark time-integration method) with high artificial damping is efficiently used to compute the complex fluid-structure interaction problem. Predicted aerodynamic performance considering structural deformation effect of the blade shows somewhat different results compared to the case of rigid blade model. Cascade performance evaluations for different elastic axis positions are importantly presented and its aeroelastic effects are investigated.
The singularities of differential Newtonian equation of motion in three body problem cause the loss of accuracy and the considerable increase of the computer time. These singularities could be eliminated during the process of regularization to transform the independent variables and the coordinate of Newtonian equations of motion. In this study, we calculated the positions and velocities of three body along the time scale to find out the unique solution of regularized Newtonian equations of motion with the $5^{th}$ order Runge-Kutta method by assuming the suitable initial velocities and positions. As the results of these calculations it is shown that the tripe stellar system eventually distintegrated, two of them formed a binary, and the last one escaped from this system with a hyperbolic orbit. This may suggest one possible explanation for the binary formation.

This paper aims at investigating the exact dynamic response of the system undergoing a exponential impact force from the viewpoints of conservations of momentum and energy. The midpoint method applied in the Newmark's family algorithm is found to be identical to the case of the application of the trapezoidal method which provides conservations of momentum and energy. For the linear impact force the mid point, the trapezoidal and the (n+1) point method exactly meet the conservation characteristics independent of the size of integration interval. On the other hand, constants for the dynamic motion resulting from the nonlinear impact are underestimated or overestimated by these method mentioned above. To overcome this indispensible error, the Simpson 1/3 method as one of multi step methods whose advantages is to use longer time interval with the same number of evaluation functions is adopted for the exact conservations of momentum and energy. Moreover, the suggested method is expected to expand the similar algorithm for the general dynamic motion including finite rotations.
Ground-coupled heat pump system has attracted attention as a promising renewable energy technology due to its improving energy efficiency and eco-friendly mechanism for space cooling and heating. Pipes buried in the ground play a role of direct thermal interaction between circulating fluid inside the pipe and surrounding soils in the geothermal exchange system. However, both complexities of turbulent flow coupling thermal-hydraulic phenomena and very long aspect ratio of the pipe make it difficult to model the heat exchange system directly. Energy balance for fluid flow inside the pipe was derived to model thermal-hydraulic phenomena, and one-dimensional pipe element was proposed through Galerkin formation and time integration of the equation. Developed element is combined to pre-developed FEM code for THM phenomena in porous media. Numerical results of Thermal Response Test showed that line-source model overestimates equivalent thermal conductivity of surrounding soils due to thermal interaction between adjacent pipes and finite length of the pipe. Thus, inverse analysis for the TRT simulation was conducted to present optimal transformation matrix with utmost convergence.

A wavelet-Galerkin scheme based on the time-dependent Maxwell's equations is presented. Daubechies wavelet with two vanishing wavelet moments is expanded for basis function in spatial domain and Yee's leap-frog approach is applied. The shifted interpolation property of Daubechies wavelet family leads to the simplified formulations for inhomogeneous media without the additional matrices for the integral or material operator. The stability condition is formulated. The dispersion characteristics are analyzed and compared with those of finite difference time domain and multiresolution time domain methods. The analyses show the excellent trade-off between the regularity and the support width of the basis function. Although the basis function has only two vanishing wavelet moments, it is enough to provide negligible dispersive error in the numerical analysis and its compact support enables only several involved terms per nodes. The storage effectiveness, execution time reduction and accuracy of this scheme are demonstrated by calculating the resonant frequencies of the homogeneous and inhomogeneous cavities.
