Visual Weight of Interface Design (인터페이스 디자인의 시각적 무게)

  • In this study, we found that the design can be configured according to the visual weight in the design of the interface. First of all, interface design has gone through the era of squeeze morphism to express depth and dimension by borrowing part of material design or head design from flat design. This is due to the characteristics of metro UI and flat design, which are difficult to express depth and dimension, but in material design, there was no separate device for inducing eyes, so Gestalt theory showed the principle of visual weight. Positive and negative, the size and placement of regions, proximity, closure, and notion were closely related to visual weight and orientation, and in some cases, it could be applied to the interface.

  • Researcher tried to argue the possibility of application of visual communication design adapting the marketing environment change on this paper. What is ICD (Integrated Communication Design)? This is a new attempt to treat these common marketing methods, such as, C, I, B, I, TV commercials, newspaper commercials, posters, brochures, DM, package designing, POP, outdoor visual information, web sites etc, as a whole. And no longer treat them as separate pieces as we were doing previously. So I started this research with positive analysis which already has been theoretically discussed based on the documents and researches on the same subject. Through this attempt I tried to examine the possibility of application of ICD. Conclusively, I developed and suggest named the ICD model, by which we could explain the current marketing communication design effort more holistically then ever.

Graphic Design Curricula to Improve Practical Skills Contents (실무수행능력 향상을 위한 시각디자인 교과과정 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine university graphic design curricula to cultivate creative specialized manpower equipped with practical skills. To attain the goal, this author investigated the curricula of four-year, three-year, and two-year universities located in the capital area including Seoul and interviewed those working in 10 specialized design companies located in Seoul and Incheon. According to the findings of analyzing the curricula, four-year, three-year, and two-year universities all emphasize practices based on projects and inquiries more rather than the mastery of basic design. Among the areas, publication graphic designs are emphasized the most, and the next are visual multimedia designs. However, advertising marketing designs are not or hardly emphasized in the curricula. But specialized university education demanded by those specialized design companies is the education emphasizing the mastery of basic design more rather than practices based on projects and inquiries. Concerning the cultivation of specialized graphic designers having central roles as the pillars of knowledge industry or creative industry demanded in this age, it is needed to have a new perspective to reorganize specialized education grounded on close cooperation and favorable relationship between universities in charge of specialized education and those specialized companies.

  • This research takes an introspective and critical approach to the college level visual communication design education in Korea. As such, the changes of the college-level visual communication design curriculum in Korea are analyzed. Selected were 3 major design schools which have a relatively long design educational history in Korea. Those 3 schools are Hongik University, Seoul National University and Ewha University. The curricula were categorized and its changes were followed. The faculty members of those 3 schools were also analyzed. The college level design education began from 1946 at Seoul National University. The Koreas design education was influenced from the Japanese Design curriculum and then the American design curriculum from the beginning. The Korean design educators accepted those new design educational paradigm without any criticism, and it is now structurized in our design educational system. It caused the curriculum with practice-centered classes mostly, and the function centered design education without understanding of socio-cultural environments. The Korean design education needs more liberal arts which will lead us to more discourses about ourselves, and needs to employ more local design educators to solve the intellectual skewness in the Korean academic society in the field of Design.

  • 멀티미디어 디자인 분야는 21세기 국가경제력을 주도해 나갈 미래 산업분야로 최근 컴퓨터 기술의 발달과 함께 사회전반에 걸쳐 그 중요성을 인정받기 시작했다. 그러나 현실적으로 엄밀한 의미에서 멀티미디어 디자인이란 아직 학문적 정의조차 명확히 내려지지 않고 있으며, 또한 연구내용과 방법 등이 체계화되지 않은 초기 상태에 머물고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 시각디자인, 컴퓨터 과학, 인간공학을 기본 축으로 하는 새로운 멀티미디어 디자인 교육과정을 제시하고 그 성과물을 예로써 전시해 보고자 한다.

  • Korea adopted a university education ,which it would have been many changes and innovations until modem developed university has its distinct feature. Design education is started just before release of korea and it has inclueded various majors in many changes until now. On the basis of 'Design', multi-media design has been happened and it shows the em of computer. With this change, the School Curriculum was tried many revisions and major subjects has had many changes reflecting the trend of the times. The Visual Communication Design Education is no exception to this. Especially the Visual Communication Design Education has a special quality that accept ail kinds of medium which can deliver on visual angle. Also it takes the problem that how to receive and teach new medium-Computer. The University education that original subject and new computer subject are mixed appropriately must be established promptly. We reside at the very point where past and present merge toward the future of computer graphic design.
