  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the active exercise program using sling on the pain and balance of total knee replacement patients. Subjects were 20 patients who received total knee replacement and are hospitalized, 10 patients in each group were randomly assigned to a group (CPM group) that applied only CPM (Continuous passive motion) and a group (CSG) that combined CPM with a active exercise program using sling. CG was performed CPM 5 days a week, CSG performed CPM 2 days a week and a active exercise program using sling 3 days a week, and each intervention was performed for 40 minutes a day for a total of 4 weeks. Pain was evaluated using VAS (Visual analog scale), and balance was measured using BT4 (Balance training 4) to measure C90 area, trace length, and Sway average velocity with eyes open and closed. As a result, there was a significant decrease in pain in both groups, and there was also a significant difference in the amount of change between groups. In balance, all variables except C90 of CG showed significant changes after intervention, and there was a significant difference between C90 and Vel with eyes closed in the amount of change between groups. Therefore, we believe that CPM and active exercise program using sling are effective interventions to reduce pain and improve balance in total knee replacement patients.

  • The purpose of this study lies in examining how sling lumbar stabilization exercise affects static standing balance of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients. The subjects were forty patients who were diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis. They were randomly assigned either to a experimental group (n=20) that received sling lmubar stabilization exercise program or to a control group (n=20) that received only education. Data were obtained for each patient from total sway path and sway velocity in standing on both feet with eyes closed and standing on both feet with eyes open were measured, using balance performance monitor. All variables were measured at pre- and post-exercise. There were significantly differences between the both groups for all variables at post-exercise (p<.05). The experimental group showed a significantly decreases in all variables at pre- and post-exercise (p<.05). But the control group showed a no significantly differences. These results revealed that sling lumbar stabilization exercise improved static standing balance, by reducing COP(center of pressure) sway path and sway velocity of idiopathic scoliosis patients, and it is expected that sling lumbar stabilization exercise will be used as balance enhancement exercise intervention for the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients.

  • This study aimed to identify the effect of the push-up plus exercise with sling on the muscle activity and lung function in adults with forward head posture over a period of 8 weeks. A total of 16 adults with forward head posture were recruited. The participants were divided into two groups : control (n-=8) and experimental (n=8). From July 6 until Aug 28, 2015, the participants were instructed to perform the knee push-up plus exercise and knee push-up plus using sling exercise three times a week to begin with and progressing to three sets of push-ups on each occasion after 8 weeks. The participants in both groups showed an increase in their craniovertebral angle (both groups p<0.001) and a decrease in their crania rotation angle (control p<0.05, experimental p<0.001). The participants in both groups showed a decrease in their trapezius activity (both groups p<0.001), an increase in their serratus anterior and lower trapezius muscle activity (both groups p<0.001), (and an increase in their) lung function (control group p<0.01, experimental group p<0.001). These findings show that push-up plus exercise improves posture and increases activation of lung function, while the push-up plus exercise in the sling is more effective in improving the forward head posture. The push-up plus exercise in the sling was more effective in improving the forward head posture, but there was no significant difference in the lung function between the two groups. Therefore, the push-up plus exercise in the sling is recommended as an exercise that is effective for the improvement of the posture and lung function of persons with forward head posture.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 8-week schroth 3-dimensional exercise and ball-sling complex exercise treatment on cobb's angle, abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility and balance in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis. Thirty subjects with scoliosis were random assignment into one of two experimental groups, either schroth treatment(n=15) or ball-sling complex exercise treatment(n=15). Exercise program was to perform for 8-week and 90min and 3 times per week. The results of this study were as follows; First, cobb's angle was significantly decreased after 8-weeks in schroth treatment(p<.001). And also abdominal muscle endurance(p<.05), flexibility(p<.001) and balance(p<.001) were significantly improve in pre vs. post treatment. Second, the ratio of cobb's angle change was significantly higher in schroth treatment compared to ball-sling complex exercise treatment following 8-weeks(p<.05). These results suggest that although both the schroth treatment and bal-sling complex exercise treatment in adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis can improve on cobb's angle, abdominal muscle endurance, flexibility and balance, but schroth treatment was better than ball-sling complex exercise treatment improving effect of cobb's angle. Therefore, we consider that schroth treatment has more effect of prevention and therapy in idiopathic scoliosis in adolescents.

  • This study examines the effects of different types of bridge exercises on the thickness of trunk muscles through ultrasound fusion imaging on 32 students. The thickness of the internal oblique (IO), external oblique (EO), transverse abdominis (TrA), and multifidus (Mf) muscles were measured in three different bridge exercises. The exercises included a supine bridge exercise, which was performed on a fixed support surface (Exercise A), a gym ball bridge exercise (Exercise B), and a sling bridge exercise (Exercise C). There were significant differences among the three bridge exercises in the IO, TrA, and Mf muscles. The IO was thickest in Exercise B followed by Exercise A and C. In contrast, the TrA and the Mf muscles were thickest in Exercise C followed by Exercise A and B. Therefore, the sling bridge exercise may be a more effective method of enhancing trunk muscle thickness than the exercises performed in other positions. Until recently, no previous studies had observed substantial changes in muscle thickness using ultrasound fusion imaging. This study suggests that sling bridge exercises contribute most to the activation of trunk muscles. Therefore, the research can contribute to the prescription and application of bridge exercises in clinical practices.
