Ultrasound system is one of the complex wireless signal processing systems that are widely used in the fields of modern industry such as medical diagnostics, underwater communications, and sensor-networks. Miniaturization of ultrasound system has been raging recently. In this paper, a hybrid LNA that is suitable for miniaturization and mobile diagnostic ultrasound system has been developed. The proposed LNA has low noise figure of less than 5dB, and the feedback resistor is designed to be electrically adjusted in order to attain the impedance-matching for various ultrasound transducers. It supports the whole ultrasound frequencies from 10KHz to 150MHz frequency band and also provides sleep modes. A gain from -18.8 to -29.5 dB is achieved by adjusting each transducer to fit the system character. Power consumption can be reduced up to 90% in similar performance as compared to the existing LNA.

The paper deals with a approach to underwater acoustic based Ad-hoc communication, which allows major design strategies for Media Access Control (MAC) within a group of the autonomous underwater vehicles(AUV). The proposed MAC aims at deploying AUV-centric star topology, which minimizes overhead of sensor nodes and improves energy-efficiency. Furthermore, that is also well under long and unknown propagation delays of the underwater acoustic medium. The implemented MAC protocol makes it easier to achieve frame synchronization than TDMA due to deploying localized schedule time, in addition to saving energy consumption by letting nodes sleep. It is also superior to MACA and MACAW in terms of propagation delay. This scalable centralized protocol has the potential to serve as a primer for development of MAC protocol for future underwater acoustic based ad-hoc networks.
This paper deals with the experimental analysis of the flexural behaviour of encased composite beams with hollow core slabs and channels. The shear force between steel beams and hollow core slabs are transferred by channels. Three full-scale specimens were constructed and tested with different steel beam heights, which were compared with those of previous studies. Based on observation of the experiments, the encased composite beams exhibited full shear connection behaviour without any other shear connectors due to their inherent mechanical and chemical bond stress. Experimental results show a behaviour similar to steel-concrete composite beams with classical connectors: elastic and yield domains, great ductility, flexural failure mode (plastic hinge), low relative movement at steel-concrete interface and all specimens failed in a very ductile manner. Consequently, this study enables the validation of the proposed connection device under static loading and shows that it meets modern structural requirements.

A multi-perforated tube is generally installed between the muffler inlet and in front of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts in the integrated urea-SCR muffler system in order to disperse the urea-water solution spray uniformly and to make better use of the SCR catalyst, which would result in an increase nitrogen oxide ($NO_x$) reduction efficiency and a decrease in the ammonia slip. The effects of the multi-perforated tube orifice area ratios on the internal flow characteristics were investigated analytically by using a general-purpose commercial software package. From the results, it was clarified that the multi-perforated tube geometry sensitively affected the generation of the bulk swirling motion inside the plenum chamber set in front of the SCR catalyst and to the uniformity index of the velocity distribution produced at the inlet of the catalyst. To verify the analytical results, engine tests were carried out in the ESC and ETC modes. Results of these tests indicated that the larger flow model in the longitudinal direction showed the highest NOx reduction efficiency, which was a good agreement with the analytical results.

The configuration of hierarchical wireless networks is provided to support diverse network environments. In the base station, two system state can be basically considered for the operation management so that the state transition may be occurred between active and sleep modes. Hence, to reduce energy consumption the system operation management of the low power should be considered to the base station system. In this paper we consider the analytical model of Discontinuous Reception (DRX) to investigate the system management. We provide the analysis scheme of base station system by the DRX model, and the low power factor would be investigated for the energy consumption. We also use the finite-state Markov system model that in a system state period the wireless resource request and the operation of service call arrival interval is considered to numerically analyze the performance of energy saving operations of base station.

This paper deals with the shear capacity of corrugated rib as the shear connector in composite structures. Corrugated rib is modified as perfobond rib shear connector type to evaluate the shear capacity. A total 12 push-out specimens with stud, perfobond rib, and corrugated rib connector were fabricated. Then, the influences of hole-crossing bars, concrete dowel, depth of corrugated panel and height of rib on the shear capacity were evaluated experimentally. As the results of these tests, the failure mechanisms of corrugated rib and perfobond rib specimens were associated with the bearing failure of the concrete slabs, but the failure of weld zone did not occur. The shear capacity of corrugated rib specimens improved as high to 96% compared to the perfobond rib shear connectors. Also, the hole-crossing bars were effective on the improvement of concrete dowel action, and consequently, shear capacity increased by 48%. It was also proven that the increment of the depth of corrugated panel and the height of rib increased the concrete bearing resistance, therefore increasing the shear capacity.

This paper describes scheduling algorithms of the UNIX operating system and shows an analytical approach to approximate the average conditional response time for a process in the UNIX operating system. The average conditional response time is the average time between the submittal of a process requiring a certain amount of the CPU time and the completion of the process. The process scheduling algorithms in thr UNIX system are based on the priority service disciplines. That is, the behavior of a process is governed by the UNIX process schuduling algorithms that (ⅰ) the time-shared computer usage is obtained by allotting each request a quantum until it completes its required CPU time, (ⅱ) the nonpreemptive switching in system mode and the preemptive switching in user mode are applied to determine the quantum, (ⅲ) the first-come-first-serve discipline is applied within the same priority level, and (ⅳ) after completing an allotted quantum the process is placed at the end of either the runnable queue corresponding to its priority or the disk queue where it sleeps. These process scheduling algorithms create the round-robin effect in user mode. Using the round-robin effect and the preemptive switching, we approximate a process delay in user mode. Using the nonpreemptive switching, we approximate a process delay in system mode. We also consider a process delay due to the disk input and output operations. The average conditional response time is then obtained by approximating the total process delay. The results show an excellent response time for the processes requiring system time at the expense of the processes requiring user time.

The heterogeneous cellular network (HCN) is most significant as a key technology for future fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. The heterogeneous network considered consists of randomly macrocell base stations (MBSs) overlaid with femtocell base stations (BSs). The stochastic geometry has been shown to be a very powerful tool to model, analyze, and design networks with random topologies such as wireless ad hoc, sensor networks, and multi- tier cellular networks. The HCNs can be energy-efficiently designed by deploying various BSs belonging to different networks, which has drawn significant attention to one of the technologies for future 5G wireless networks. In this paper, we propose switching off/on systems enabling the BSs in the cellular networks to efficiently consume the power by introducing active/sleep modes, which is able to reduce the interference and power consumption in the MBSs and FBSs on an individual basis as well as improve the energy efficiency of the cellular networks. We formulate the minimization of the power onsumption for the MBSs and FBSs as well as an optimization problem to maximize the energy efficiency subject to throughput outage constraints, which can be solved the Karush Kuhn Tucker (KKT) conditions according to the femto tier BS density. We also formulate and compare the coverage probability and the energy efficiency in HCNs scenarios with and without coordinated multi-point (CoMP) to avoid coverage holes.

Tests and analyses were performed in this study to assess the shear strength of Reinforced Concrete(RC) members strengthened by the Near Surface Mounted(NSM) technique in shear, which is drawing attention as an alternative to the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) bonding strengthening technique. Four-point bending tests were performed on 7 RC specimens without any shear reinforcement. The test variables such as the inclination of CFRP strip (45 degrees and 90 degrees), and the spacing of CFRP strip (250mm, 200mm, 150mm, 100mm) were considered. Through the testing scenarios, the effect of each test variable on the failure mode and the shear strength of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear were assessed. The test results show that the specimens with CFRP strips at 45 degrees go to failure as a result of the strip fracture, but the specimens with CFRP strips at 90 degrees go to failure as a result of the slip of strips. Strips at 45 degrees was the more effective than strips at 90 degrees, not only in terms of increasing beam shear resistance but also in assuring larger deformation capacity at beam failure. In addition, the RBSN analysis appropriately predicted the crack formation and the load-displacement response of the RC members strengthened by the NSM technique in shear.

In this study, flexural tests of prestressed high strength spun concrete (PHC) piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars were conducted, where the longitudinal rebar ratio and the presence of sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile were set as key test variables. A total of six PHC pile specimens were manufactured, and their flexural behaviors including failure mode, crack pattern, longitudinal strain distribution in a section and end slip between external PHC pile and infilled concrete were measured and discussed in detail. The test results revealed that the flexural stiffness and strength increased as the longitudinal rebar ratio became larger, and that the sludge formed on the inner surface of PHC pile did not show any detrimental effect on the flexural performance. In addition to the experimental approach, this study presents a nonlinear flexural analysis model considering compatibility conditions and strain and stress distributions of the PHC piles and infilled concrete. The rationality of the nonlinear flexural analysis model was verified by comparing it with test results, and it appeared that the proposed model well evaluated the flexural behavior of PHC piles reinforced with infilled concrete and longitudinal rebars with a good accuracy.
