  • This study deals with the suppressing characteristics of alkali-silica reaction by ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS) in NaCl solution. NaCl contents used in the experiment ranges over 0%, 2.8% and 20%. Reactive aggregate used is Japanese andesite. Also, three GGBSs of about 4.000. 6, 000 and $8, 000cm^2/g$ were used in the experiment. The replacement proportions of portland cement by GGBSs were 40%. 60%, 70% and 80%. respectively. The specimens with GGBS were severely contracted according to the increasing replacement ratio in NaCl solution. The contraction rate increases according to the increasing in NaCl content. Also. it does with increasing the blaine fineness of GGRS. It is concluded that the suppression of alkali-silica reaction by GGBS in NaCl solution is complished by contraction of GGBS due to chloride ion induced chemical shrinkage.

  • To develop 80MPa-high strength concrete with ternary cement used in OPC, blast-furnance slag, and fly ash, mixing ratio of blast-furnace slag and fly ash was evaluated in material characteristics before and after hardening of the high strength concrete. According to the evaluated results of material characteristics before and after hardening of the high strength concrete, the flowability and long-term compressive strength increase up to 30% mixing ratio of blast-furnace slag and fly ash. Also, it is superior to characteristics of length change and neutralization due to the use of mineral admixture when compared in test sample mixed with OPC. The evaluated results show that material characteristics of the high strength concrete was the most outstanding performance at blast-furnace slag of 25% and fly ash of 15%. The result of this study will be useful for the development of high strength concrete as a substitute of costly silica fume in the near future.

  • In this Study, it was fabricated that shrinkage reducing agent and mortar used $C_{12}A_7$-based slag enhanced the shrinkage reduction and compressive strength. To reduce cement content, setting time, flow and compressive strength of mortar with varying content of fly ash and blast furnace slag were experimented. The flow increased and setting time delayed as the increase of fly ash and blast furnace slag content. And early strength was lower and long age strength was higher than that of mortar with low content of admixture.

  • Ferronickel slag is a by-product from the ferronickel smelting process and it is divided into air-cooled ferronickel slag and water granulated ferronickel slag according to cooling system. The purpose of this experimental resesrch is to investigate the mechanical properties and resistance to freezing and thawing of concrete using air-cooled ferronickel slag(ACFNS) fine aggregate. For this purpose, the concrete specimens with water-cement ratio of 50% were made with ACFNS's replacement ratios of 0%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 70%, and 100% by volume of fine aggregate. It was observed from the test results that the compressive strength and static modulus of elasticity of ACFNS fine aggregate concrete were increased with increasing replacement ratio of ACFNS and the resistance to freezing and thawing of this was similar to reference concrete which had the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of more than 90% during the freezing and thawing of 300 cycles.

  • This study presents the experimental results of frost durability including resistance to freezing-thawing and surface scaling of concrete. Mixing design was proportioned with the various water-binder ratio between 0.37 and 0.47 and three different binder compositions corresponding to Type I cement without any supplementary cementitious materials(OPC), Type II cement with 50% blast-furnace slag replacement(BFS50), and ternary cement with Type III cement, 15% fly ash, and 35% slag replacement (BFS35%+FA15%). Test results showed that the mixing design with BFS50% and BFS35%+FA15% exhibited higher durability factor than that made with OPC only. Finally, the use of blend cement containing slag can be used effectively in terms of frost durability of the concrete exposed to severe condition under coastal environment like as flying salt, sea water spray, etc.

  • In order to evaluate the durability of reinforced concrete structures under chloride attack from sea water and frost damage, it is important to analyze both the microstructural characteristics of concrete and its diffusion resistance of concrete against chloride ingress. In this study, a relation between micro-pore structures of concrete obtained by the Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry and accelerated chloride diffusivity as well as long term chloride diffusivity were studied for ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBS) concrete. Different water-cement ratio of 40, 45, 50% and different unit cement concrete of 300, 350, 400 or 450 kg/$m^3$ of the GGBS concrete along with OPC concrete were used and freeze and thawing, and the change in diffusivity and microstructure were observed for both GGBS concrete and damaged GGBS concrete due to rapid freezing and thawing.

  • As a solution of both environmental issue of reducing carbon dioxide emission and sustainable issue of exhausting natural resources, in concrete industry, many research on recycling various by-products or industrial wastes as the concrete materials has been conducted. The aim of this research is feasibility analysis of additional reaction with ordinary Portland cement and flue gas desulfurization gypsum based on the blast furnace slag and recycled fine aggregate based mortar to achieve the normal strength range. Consequently, in the case of mortar replaced 10% FGD and 30% OPC for BS, 80% of plain OPC mortar's compressive strength was achieved. Furthermore, when the water-to-binder ratio is decreased to keep the practically similar level of flow, it is expected to be achieve the equivalent compressive strength to plain OPC mortar.

  • Much energy is consumed up when making a concrete. And especially, because lots of $CO_2$ is discharged for combination material, cement, we are making efforts in order to get lid of this negative thought. Recently, much interest is given to manufacturing eco concrete which is environment friendly and its' application. We should study manufacturing of the concrete whose environment friendly performance should be improved as consistent development concept in order for various approaches to be settled down our country such as lowering of environmental load, utilization of industry wastes and improvement of environment related performance. This study inquired into utilization possibility through from various tests results after manufacturing eco type mixed concrete whose purpose is to lower environmental load in which cement and aggregates can be replaced with metakaolin which is natural material and copper slag which is industry by product.

  • Water pipes manufactured using existing Portland cement suffer from the problem of rapid deterioration and reduced durability due to the hydration product of cement being vulnerable to acids. Therefore, in this study, water pipes were manufactured using slag and fly ash, which are industrial by-products from various industries, and their characteristics were analyzed. As a result of the experiment, slump in unhardened concrete tended to increase due to the ball bearing action of fly ash, and the amount of air was reduced due to unburned coal, indicating that measures for frost resistance were needed. In addition, the initial strength of the compressive strength was increased through steam curing, and the results were equal to or better than OPC when mixing more than 50 % of slag. The acid resistance results showed that the mass reduction rate was less than 5 %, showing excellent durability performance, and the bending failure load of the water pipe also exceeded the KS standards, so it is judged to be commercializable.

  • In this paper, it was to investigate different types of mortar properties using a chloride attack protection agent by evaluating mixing ratio of this particular agent, including 3% increments. The results showed that the compressive strength and chloride ion penetration resistance of mortar by using chloride attack protection agent were improved than non-added mortar.
