  • In patch-and-stitch localization algorithms, a flip error refers to the kind of error in which a patch is stitched to the map as being wrongly reflected. In this paper, we present an anchor-free localization algorithm which tries to detect and prevent flip errors. The flip error prevention is achieved by two filtering mechanisms: the flip-ambiguity test and the flip-conflict detection. We evaluate the performances of proposed techniques though simulations and show that they achieve significant performance improvements.

  • Image stitching method is a technique for obtaining an high-resolution image by combining two or more images. In X-ray image for clinical diagnosis, the size of the imaging region taken by one shot is limited due to the field-of-view of the equipment. Therefore, in order to obtain a high-resolution image including large regions such as a whole body, the synthesis of multiple X-ray images is required. In this paper, we propose a rapid stitching method of digital X-ray images using template-based registration. The proposed algorithm use principal component analysis(PCA) and k-nearest neighborhood(k-NN) to determine the location of input images before performing a template-based matching. After detecting the overlapping position using template-based matching, we synthesize input images by alpha blending. To improve the computational efficiency, reduced images are used for PCA and k-NN analysis. Experimental results showed that our method was more accurate comparing with the previous method with the improvement of the registration speed. Our stitching method could be usefully applied into the stitching of 2D or 3D multiple images.

  • Diamond turning machines for manufacture of precision optics require deliberate diagnosis to ensure that all the machine elements are properly operating, kinematically, dynamically and thermally, to produce demanded work qualities. One effective way is to directly inspect topographical features of work surfaces that have been carefully generated with prescribed machining conditions intended to exaggerate faulty consequences of any ill-operating machine elements. In this research, a very-large-scale Phase measuring interferometric system that has been developed for years at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is used to fulfill the metrological requirements fur the surface analysis. A special stitching technique is used to extend the measuring range, which integrates all the patches that are separately sampled over the whole surface while moving the stage. Then, the measured surface profile is analyzed to releated the machine error sources. For this, zernike polynomial fitting is used together with the wavelet filter and the fourier transform. Experimental results showed that the suggested technique in this study is very effective in diagnosing actual diamond turning machines

  • This paper proposes the use of mobile ad-hoc cloud for reducing the process time of panoramic image generation in mobile smart devices. In order to effectively assign tasks relevant to panoramic image generation to the mobile ad-hoc cloud, a method for image acquisition and sorting and an algorithm for task distribution and offloading decision making are proposed. The proposed methods are applied to Android OS based smart devices, and their effects on panoramic image generation are analyzed.

  • Image stitching is a process of combining two or more images with overlapping area to create a panorama of input images, which is considered as an active research area in computer vision, especially in the field of augmented reality with 360 degree images. Image stitching techniques can be categorized into two general approaches: direct and feature based techniques. Direct techniques compare all the pixel intensities of the images with each other, while feature based approaches aim to determine a relationship between the images through distinct features extracted from the images. This paper proposes a novel image stitching method based on feature pixels with approximated clustering filter. When the features are extracted from input images, we calculate a meaning of the minutiae, and apply an effective feature extraction algorithm to improve the processing time. With the evaluation of the results, the proposed method is corresponding accurate and effective, compared to the previous approaches.

  • In this paper, we propose the algorithm for making panoramic background and object tacking using pan-tilt-zoom camera. We draw an analogy relation between images for cylinder projection, rearrange of images, stitching, and blending. We can then make the panoramic background, and can track the object use the panoramic background. After generated the background, the proposed algorithm tracks the moving object. Therefore it can detect the wide area, and it tracks the object continuously. So the proposed algorithm is able to use at wide area to detect and track the object.

  • Using conventional textile techniques such as weaving braiding knitting and stitching it is possible to produce a wide range two and three dimensional fiber preforms, however so far only a limited attention has been given to knitted fabrics in composite industry. This is mainly due to the opinion that knitted fabric reinforced composites posses low mechanical properties owing to their looped fiber architecture. But it is possible to obtain desired mechanical properties by selecting proper knitted fabric structure, In this paper mechanical characteristics of kevlar plain weft knitted fabrics reinforced plastics(KFRP) are evaluated for th development of intrusion beam of car side door. Tensile bending impact properties of KFRP are measured experimentally and crush demands of Americal Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No.214(FMVSS 214) compared with the bending load and displacement of KFRP by quasi-static test method. The applicability and limitation of bending load and displacement of KFRP according to specimen size has been discussed.

  • Recently panoramic image overcomes camera limited viewing angle and offers wide viewing angle by stitching plenty of images. In this paper, we propose pre-processing and post-processing algorithm which makes speed and accuracy improvements when making panoramic images. In pre-processing, we can get camera sensor information and use three-dimensional rotation angle to find RoI(Region of Interest) image. Finding RoI images can reduce time when extracting feature point. In post-processing, we propose weighted minimal error boundary cut blending algorithm to improve accuracy. This paper explains our algorithm and shows experimental results comparing with existing algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose a high-quality stitching method of 3D multiple dental CT images. First, a weighted function is generated using the difference of two distance functions that calculate a distance from the nearest edge of an overlapped region to each position. And a blending ratio propagation function for two gradient vectors is parameterized by the difference and magnitude of gradient vectors that is also applied by the weighted function. When the blending ratio is propagated, an improved region growing scheme is proposed to decide the next position and calculate the blending intensity. The proposed method produces a high-quality stitching image. Our method removes the seam artifact caused by the mean intensity difference between images and vignetting effect. And it removes double edges caused by local misalignment. Experimental results showed that the proposed method produced high-quality stitching images for ten patients. Our stitching method could be usefully applied into the stitching of 3D or 2D multiple images.

  • This paper is about a real-time automatic face recognition system based on one-shot panoramic scanning. It detects multiple faces in real time through a single panoramic scanning process and recognizes pre-registered faces. Instead of recognizing multiple faces within a single panoramic image, multiple faces are recognized using multiple images obtained in the scanning process. This reduces the panorama image creation time and stitching error, and at the same time can improve the face recognition performance by using the accumulated information of multiple images. It is expected that it can be used in various applications such as a multi-person smart attendance system with only a simple image acquisition device.
