Strontium can not be determined by conventional dc polarography method since it is very difficult to be reduced at the drop mercury electrode(DME) in aqueous solution. However the analytical sensitivity was improved by adsorptive stripping voltammetry in which electro-reduction of ligand in a complex formed between strontium and o-cresolphthaleoxone was performed. Strontium could be determined in range of $5{\sim}30{\mu}g/L$ concentration. This method was affected by coexistent alkali earth metal ions. Consequently ion exchange separation is recommended to analyze strontium in samples.

X-ray diffraction analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, thermal differential and thermos gravimetric analysis, cation exchange capacity analysis, and Cesium (Cs), Strontium (Sr) adsorption experiments were performed to investigate the physical and chemical properties of natural zeolite from Guryongpo in Korea. As a result of X-ray diffraction analysis, minerals such as mordenite, heulandite, clinoptilolite, and illite are contained, and as a result of X-ray fluorescence analysis, elements such as SiO2, Al2O3, CaO, K2O, MgO, Fe2O3 and Na2O are contained, and the cation exchange capacity was 148.6 meq/100 g. As a result of thermal differential and thermos gravimetric analysis, it was confirmed that the thermal stability was excellent up to 600 ℃. As a result of the adsorption equilibrium experiment over time, the equilibrium was reached within 30 min. for Cesium (Cs) and within 8 hr. for Strontium (Sr), and the adsorption rates of Cesium (Cs) and Strontium (Sr) were 80% and 18%, respectively. As a result of the single-component isothermal adsorption experiment, in conformed to the Langmuir model, and the maximum Cesium (Cs) adsorption amount was 131.5 mg/g, which was high, while the Strontium (Sr) maximum adsorption amount was 29.5 mg/g, which was low. In the case of the natural zeolite used in this study, the content of minerals including 8-rings such as clinoptilolite, heulandite, and mordenite is high, showing high selectivity for Cesium (Cs).
This experiment was carried out to examine the effects of La-Co substitution on Sr-ferrite. The magnetic properties of calcined and sintered materials varied with the substitutional amount of La and Co elements in Sr-ferrite. Anisotropy field and coercivity for Sr ferrite were increased with raising La-Co substitution amounts. The microstructure observation for Sr ferrite substituted by La-Co revealed that La-Co inhabited grain growth during calcination and promoted lateral grain growth during sintering. The relationship between $B_{r}$ and $_{i}$ /$H_{c}$ for La-Co substituted Sr-ferrite was found to be $B_{r}$$≒0.097_{i}$ /$H_{c}$/+4500. In case of $SrFe_{12}$$O_{19}$, $B_{r} was 4090 G and $_{ i}$$H_{c}$ was 3560 Oe, but $B_{r}$ was 4080 G and and $_{i}$$H_{c}$ was 4800 Oe for $Sr_{0.7}$$La_{0.3}$$Fe_{11.7}$ /$Co_{0.3}$$O_{19}$.

A study on the removal of heavy metals using alginic acid, a kind of polysaccharides, was performed. Alginic acid adsorbed 480 mg Pb/g dry mass at pH 4, which was about twice as high as uptake capacity of other biosorbents. Isothermal adsorption curve for lead ions was described by the Langmuir model equation and the experimental data well fitted to model equation. The adsorption of lead ions was an endothermic process since binding strength increased with temperature. The effect of alkali metal ions ($Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$) on lead sorption capacity was negligible and most adsorption process was completed in 30min. The uptake capacity of other metals such as, copper, mercury, strontium, and cesium ions using alginic acid was also investigated.
The selective removal of cesium by ammonium molybdophosphate (AMP) was studied in order to reduce an interference by high radioactivity of cesium on the determination of low radioactive elements in leachate of spent fuel. The removal of Cs, U, Ce, La, Co Ca, Na Sr and K was investigated for the leachate and the bentonite in contact with a spent fuel. More than 90% of cesium was removed by AMP and Ca, Na, Co and Sr was remained in 0.1 M $HNO_3$. However, three valence elements such as La and Ce were also removed by AMP. Though a little of potassium of the bentonite components was adsorbed on AMP, the potassium in the bentonite solution diluted to its concentration in a real sample would not affect the capacity of AMP greatly. From another experiment for the separation of strontium as a leaching indicator of spent fuel, the recovery of strontium in 8.0 M $HNO_3$ solution by using Sr-resin (Eichrom, P/N SR-B50-A) was more than 95% by eluting with 0.05 M $HNO_3$.
An accurate and simple analytical technique for $^{89}Sr$ and $^{90}Sr$, overcoming the demerits of the conventional method, has been developed with extraction chromatography and liquid scintillation counting. The Sr fraction was separated from hindrance elements with oxalate coprecipitation or cation exchange resin and purified with Sr-Spec column. With liquid scintillation counter, $^{89}Sr$ was measured by Cerenkov radiation method, and $^{90}Sr$ was measured by spectrum unfolding method. The developed radioactive strontium separation method was validated by application to the IAEA-reference material (IAEA-375, Soil) and radioactive waste samples.

This study was conducted to investigate sorption and desorption behaviors of radionuclides (Cobalt and Strontium) in natural soil. Sorption kinetics and isotherms were analyzed to predict sorption behaviors of radionuclides in natural soil and the experimental data were fitted to several sorption models. Desorption experiments were also performed with or without CMCD at constant pH and ion strength conditions. The results showed that $Sr^{2+}$ was more strongly sorbed than $Co^{2+}$ in natural soil. Both $Co^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ followed a pseudo-second order kinetics and Sips model. The desorption-resistance of $Co^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ was estimated using a natural surfactant Carboxymethyl-${\beta}$-cyclodextrin(CMCD) or non-desorbing fraction. Desorption of radionuclides was partially irreversible and $Sr^{2+}$ was more resistant than $Co^{2+}$ Addition of CMCD facilitated desorption of $Co^{2+}$ and $Sr^{2+}$ from soil.
The main purpose of this research was to examine the adsorption/ion exchange characteristics of radioactive species such as cesium and strontium onto synthetic Na-birnessite (sodium-birnessite). As part of efforts to investigate the sorption behavior of cesium and strontium onto synthetic Na-birnessite, batch isotherm tests were performed under different experimental conditions. Na-birnessite was synthesized by the oxidation of $Mn^{2+}$ ions in sodium hydroxide solution. The synthetic Na-birnessite was characterized by powder x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis. Cesium and strontium concentrations were determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The removal efficiency of strontium by Na-birnessite was around 95 % which was much higher than that of cesium (~ 32 %). The results imply that strontium has a higher affinity for Na-birnessite than cesium because strontium, divalent cation leads to larger electrostatic attraction than monovalent cesium.

The current study aimed to compare the pH, solubility value, and ion release capability of premixed mineral trioxide aggregates (MTAs) versus conventional pulp capping materials before and after setting. The following materials were used: resin-modified calcium silicate cement (TheraCal LC®, TLC), resin-modified calcium hydroxide cement (Ultra-BlendTM plus, UBP), and 2 kinds of premixed MTA (Endocem MTA® premixed regular [EMPR] and Well-RootTM PT [WRP]). The specimens of each material were prepared before and after setting and were immersed in distilled water. The materials' pH and solubility value were assessed. Next, three kinds of ion (calcium, sulfide, and strontium) released by pulp capping materials were evaluated via inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. In the after-setting group, the pH of TLC and UBP decreased. However, the pH of the premixed MTAs increased with time. TLC released a higher concentration of strontium ion compared with the other materials. Meanwhile, EMPR released a significantly high concentration of sulfide ion (p < 0.05). In the after-setting group, the 2 kinds of premixed MTAs released a significantly higher concentration of calcium ion compared with the other materials (p < 0.05). In the after-setting group, EMPR had a significantly low solubility value (p < 0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by the Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction, was used in statistical analysis. In conclusion, resin-modified calcium silicate cement, modified calcium hydroxide cement, and the 2 kinds of premixed MTAs had an alkaline pH and low solubility value and they released various concentrations of ions after setting.

Applicability of ammonium molybdophosphate/iron oxides-polyacrylonitrile (AMP/IO-PAN) composites on the removal of radionuclides in the radioactive wastewater generated from nuclear power plants was investigated. The composites were characterized using the following analytical techniques: X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourior transform-infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analyzer (PSA), nitrogen adsorption-desorption and magnetic property measurement system (MPMS). 10wt% of AMP/IO-PAN composite has a saturation magnetization of 2.038 emu/g. Single-solute sorptions of Co, Sr and Cs onto 10wt% of AMP/IO-PAN composite were investigated. The maximum sorption capacities ($Q^0$) predicted by the Langmuir model on 10wt% of AMP/IO-PAN composite were 0.097, 0.086 and 0.66 mmol/g for Co, Sr and Cs, respectively. The maximum sorption capacities ($Q^0$) of Cs predicted by Langmuir model on 0, 10, 20 and 30wt% of AMP/IO-PAN composites were 0.702, 0.655, 0.602 and 0.559 mmol/g, respectively. The maximum sorption capacities ($Q^0$) of Cs decreased with increasing the iron oxide content in the AMP/IO-PAN composites.
