Priority Data Handling in Pipeline-based Workflow (파이프라인 기반 워크플로우의 우선 데이터 처리 방안)

  • Volcanic ash has been predicted to be the main source of damage caused by a potential volcanic disaster around Mount Baekdu and the regions of the Korean peninsula. Computer simulations to predict the diffusion of volcanic ash should be performed according to prevalent meteorological situations within a predetermined time. Therefore, a workflow using pipelining is proposed to parallelize the software used for this computation. Due to the nature of volcanic calamities, the simulations need to be carried out for various plausible conditions given that the parameters cannot be precisely determined during the simulations, even at the time of a volcanic eruption. Among the given conditions, computations need to be first performed for the condition with the highest probability so that a response to the volcanic disaster can be provided using these results. Further action can then be performed later based on subsequent results. The computations need to be performed using a volcanic disaster damage prediction system on a computing server with limited computing performance. Hence, an optimal distribution of the computing resources is required. We propose a method through which specific data can be provided first to the proposed pipeline-based workflow.

Range Query Processing of Distributed Moving Object Databases using Scheduling Technique (스케쥴링 기법을 이용한 분산 이동 객체 데이타베이스의 범위 질의 처리)

  • Recently, the location-based service for moving customers is becoming one of the most important service in mobile communication area. For moving object applications, there are lots of update operations and such update loads are concentrated on some particular area unevenly. The primary processing of LBS application is spatio-temporal range queries. To improve the throughput of spatio-temporal range queries, the time of disk I/O in query processing should be reduced. In this paper, we adopt non-uniform two-level grid index structures of GALIS architecture,which are designed to minimize update operations. We propose query scheduling technique using spatial relationship and time relationship and a combined spatio-temporal query processing method using time zone concepts to improve the throughput of query processing. Some experimental results are shown for range queries with different query range to show the performance tradeoffs of the proposed methods.

  • TV 방송 분야에서 다양한 정보와 상호 작용성을 제공하기 위해서 최근 기존 방송 내용인 A/V 스트림 외 부가정보 방송이 시도되고 있다. 데이타 방송에 대한 기존 연구는 대부분 고정된 내용의 데이타를 방송하는 환경을 가정하고 있어서 그 결과가 방송 내용의 변화가 많은 환경에 부적합하다. 본 논문에서는 데이타에 대한 접근이 반복되지 않을 가능성이 높고 사용자 접근 확률을 예상하기 어려운 상황에서 응답 시간을 개선하는 방안으로 수신 데이타를 무조건 캐쉬에 반입하고 교체가 필요한 경우 다음 방송 시각이 가장 가까운 페이지를 축출하는 사용자 단말 시스템에서의 캐슁 정책을 제안하였다. 제안된 캐쉬 관리 정책은 평균적인 캐쉬 접근 실패 비용을 줄임으로써 사용자 응답 시간을 개선하며, 서로 다른 스케줄링 기법을 사용하는 다양한 방송 제공자가 공존하는 환경에서 보편적으로 효과를 가져올 수 있다.Abstract Recently, many television broadcasters have tried to disseminate digital multimedia data in addition to the traditional content (audio-visual stream). The broadcast data need to be cached by a client system, to provide a reasonable response time for a user request. Previous studies assumed the dissemination of a fixed set of items, and the results are not suitable when broadcast items are frequently changed. In this paper, we propose a novel cache management scheme that chooses the replacement victim based on the remaining time to the next broadcast instance. The proposed scheme reduces response time, where it is hard to predict the probability distribution of user accesses. The caching policy we present here significantly reduces expected response time by minimizing expected cache miss penalty, and can be applied without difficulty to different scheduling algorithms.

Duplication Scheduling of Periodic Tasks Based on Precedence Constraints and Communication Costs in Distributed Real-Time Systems (분산 실시간 시스템에서 우선순위와 통신비용을 고려한 주기적 타스크들의 중복 스케줄링)

  • Parallel tasks in distributed real-time systems can be divided into several subtasks and be executed in parallel according to their real-time attributes. But, it is difficult to gain the optimal solution which is to allocate a tasks deadline into the subtasks deadline while minimizing the subtasks deadline miss. Tn this Paper, we propose the algorithm that allocates deadlines into each subtask, according to the attributes of each subtask(i.e. using communication time and execution time to periodic tasks). Also, we suggest a processor mapping algorithm that considers the communication time among the processors and the effective duplication algorithm which is allocated to the identical processor for the purpose of improving the communication time between the subtasks. We can obtain a result that reduces IPC(Inter-Processor Communication) time and uses the idle processor through applying effective real-time attributes to FUTD(Fully connected, Unbounded Task Duplication) algorithms. As a result, we can improve the average processor utilization.

  • With the rapid growth of the Internet, popular Web sites are visited so frequently that these cannot be constructed with a single server or mirror site of high performance. The rapid increase of Internet uses and uses raised the problems of overweighted transmission traffic and difficult load balancing. To solve these, various schemes of server clustering have been surveyed. Especially, in order to fully utilize the performance of computer systems in a cluster, a good scheduling method that distributes user requests evenly to servers in required. In this paper, we propose a new method for reducing the service latency. In our method, each Web server in the cluster has different content. This helps to reduce the complexity of load balancing algorithm and the service latency The Web server that received a request from the load balancer responds to the client directly without passing through the load balancer. Simulation studies show that our method performs better than other traditional methods. In terms of response time, our method shows shorter latency than RR (Round Robin) and LC (Least Connection) by about 16%, 14% respectively.

Java Garbage Collection for a Small Interactive System (소규모 대화형 시스템을 위한 자바 가비지 콜렉션)

  • Garbage collection in the CLDC typically employs a stop-the-world GC algorithm which is performing a complete garbage collection when needed. This technique is unsuitable for the interactive Java embedded system because this can lead to long and unpredictable delays. In this paper, We present a garbage collection algorithm which reduces the average delay time and supports the interactive environment. Our garbage collector is composed of the allocator and the collector. The allocator determines the allocation position of free-list according to object size, and the collector uses an incremental mark-sweep algorithm. The garbage collector is called periodically by the thread scheduling policy and the allocator allocates the objects of marked state during collection cycle. Also, we introduce a color toggle mechanism that changes the meaning of the bit patterns at the end of the collection cycle. We compared the performance of our implementation with stop-the-world mark-sweep GC. The experimental results show that our algorithm reduces the average delay time and that it provides uniformly low response times.

  • It has able to be possible that expression and store visual image from analog to digital without picture quality damaged via improvement of video compression technology. And also, It is possible to broadcasting digital image via transmission of digital image on MPEG-2 standardization. for this reason, the broadcasting business owners have converted broadcasting service from analog to digital. But, local SO(System Operator) has a difficult point which secure HD(High Definition) broadcasting program. In this paper, we designed and implemented Scheduling System for MPEG-2 Digital broadcasting which gather HD broadcasting program from major broadcasting business owners(as like MBC, KBS, SBS, etc) and broadcast them.

  • In this two-part paper, we consider dynamic resource allocation in orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA). To reduce the reverse link overhead for channel quality information(CQI) feedback, a set of sub-carriers are tied up to a sub-channel to be used as the unit of CQI feedback, user-multiplexing and the corresponding power/rate allocation. Specifically, we focus on two sub-channel structures, either aggregated or distributed, where the SNR distribution over a sub-channel is modeled as Ricean in general, and the channel quality of a sub-channel is summarized as the mean and variance of channel gain envelop divided by noise standard deviation. Then, we develop a generalized two step channel/resource allocation algorithm, which uses the two statistical measurements, and analyze the spectral efficiency of the OFDMA system in terms of average frequency utilization. An extension to proportional fair algorithm will also be addressed. As confirmed by numerical results, the aggregated structure is preferred especially when intending aggressive link adaptation.

  • While Long Term Evolution-Frequency Division Duplexing (LTE-FDD) is regarded as one of the strong candidates for "4G" wireless broadband access in FDD field, LTE-Time Division Duplexing (TDD) is emerging as one possible migration path for WiMAX-TDD in some cases as well as the migration path for Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA). In this paper, we analyze the feasibility of dual mode with LTE-TDD in two combinations: dual mode LTE-FDD/TDD and dual mode Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX)-TDD/LTE-TDD. Thanks to the commonality in numerology, terminology, and frame structure between LTE-FDD and LTE-TDD, dual mode LTE-FDD/TDD looks feasible in a cost-effective manner. Thanks to the commonality in scheduling algorithm, control mechanism, and supported spectrum bands, it is shown that dual mode WiMAX-TDD/LTE-TDD looks feasible as well. It should be also noted that the commonality in numerology and frame structure is critical for building a chip while the commonality in algorithms and control mechanisms is critical to make it work.

An N-Channel Stop and Wait ARQ based on Selective Packet Delay Strategy in HSDPA Systems (HSDPA 시스템에서 선택적 지연 기반의 N-채널 SAW ARQ)

  • In this paper, we propose a SPD(Selective Packet Delay) scheme to improve the performance of High-Speed Downlink Shared Channel(HS-DSCH) employing N-Channel Stop and Wait retransmission scheme in High Speed Downlink Packet Access(HSDPA) system. The proposed SPD coordinates packet transmissions according to the channel condition. When the channel condition is bad, packet transmission is forcedly delayed, and the designated time slot is set over to other users in good channel condition. Hence, the SPD is able to reduce the average transmission delay for packet transmission under the burst error environments. In addition, we propose two packet scheduling schemes called SPD-LDPF(Long Delayed Packet First) and SPD-DCRR(Deficit Compensated Round Robin) that are effectively combined with the SPD scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in terms of delay, throughput and fairness.
