  • Flexible/stretchable electronics have recently focused, since their applications extend to emerging flexible displays, sensors, dielectric elastomer actuator and generators, and smart surgical tools. Flexible/stretchable electrodes should be synchronized with employing mechanical deformations of either flexing or stretching modes. Thus, the research area is one of the tough subjects, since the electrodes should keep their basic functions of electrodes under various mode of mechanical deformations. In this review, we discuss the recent development in the preparation and properties of such flexible/stretchable electrodes.

  • This study is a descriptive research study which attempts to determine the effects of self-efficacy, self-esteem, loneliness, stress, stress coping, and use expectancy on the smartphone addiction of university students based on the GIA model. Data was accumulated by means of questionnaire surveys from December 2015 to January 2016, which targeted 224 college students attending universities within Seoul and analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0. The average smartphone addiction score was $2.5{\pm}0.8$ (1.2-4.9) and 125 students were in the normal category (55 %), 90 in the danger category (40.2%), and 9 in the addiction category (4%). The correlation analysis showed that loneliness and stress had positive correlations with use expectancy, while self-esteem had a negative correlation. Loneliness, stress, use expectancy, and self-esteem proved to be the major factors affecting smartphone addiction and it was concluded that the development and application of programs which strengthen self-esteem are necessary. This study contributed to the research application and availability of the GIA model by analyzing the factors affecting smartphone addiction based on the GIA model.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among child abuse, depression, and smartphone addiction by gender. Data were gathered though questionnaires surveying 1,601 adolescents living in the Seoul and Kyeonggi areas. The results of t-tests and multiple regression analyses using structural equation modeling are as follow. First, approximately 40 percent of adolescents reported having experienced child abuse in the past year. Second, 24.5 percent of adolescents were found to be at risk of smartphone addiction. Third, child abuse was associated with depression and smartphone addiction among adolescents, and depression was found to have a mediating effect on the relationship between child abuse and smartphone addiction. Lastly, gender differences were also found: for male students, child abuse was directly related to smartphone addiction; for female adolescents, depression was found to mediate the relationship between child abuse and smartphone addiction. The results suggest different intervention strategies according to gender and a necessity of intervention to prevent child depression and smartphone addiction. The implications for social work practice were also discussed.

  • In the present study, practical measures were to be presented for prevention of smartphone game addiction and school violence by analysis of the effects aspect of the smartphone game addition by elementary school students on school violence awareness. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for the subject of 6th graders attending an elementary school located in K city of Jeollanam-do, and a total of 258 copies were utilized as the final analysis data. Considering the analysis results, significant differences in the smartphone game addition were observed first as a function of the elementary school students' sex and game use time. The level of smartphone game addiction was observed to become higher for male students than female students, and the higher the longer the game use time during a day. Secondly, a positive (+) correlation was observed to exist between the smartphone game addiction and the school violence awareness. Thirdly, the variable affecting the school violence awareness among individual sub-variables for the smartphone game addiction was shown to be a problem with loss of control and power of reality test. The higher the addiction level of each variable, the negative tendency for school violence awareness was shown to be increased. Based on such analysis results, policy-wise, practical suggestions as well as directions for the follow-up studies have been presented for the improvement of smartphone game addiction and school violence awareness.

  • This study evaluated the odor removal performance of a bacteria-based odor reduction kit. The bacteria used were Rhodobacter capsulatus, Paracoccus limosus, and Brevibacterium hankyongi, which can remove ammonia (NH3), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), total nitrogen (T-P), and total phosphorus (T-N), which are odor pollutants. The materials used were bacteria and porous aggregates (expanded vermiculite, zeolite beads, activated carbon), and the combination of the materials varied depending on the removal mechanism. Materials with a physical adsorption mechanism (zeolite beads and activated carbon) gradually slowed down the concentration reduction rate of odor pollutants (NH3, H2S, T-P, and T-N), and had no further effect on reducing the concentration of odor pollutants after 60 hours. Expanded vermiculite, in which bacteria that remove odors through a bio-adsorption mechanism were immobilized, had a continuous decrease in concentration, and the concentration of odor pollutants reached 0 ppm after 108 hours. As a result, the odor removal performance of materials with physical adsorption mechanisms in actual river water did not meet the odor emission standard required by the Ministry of Environment, while the expanded vermiculite immobilized with bacteria satisfied the odor emission permissible standard and achieved water quality grade 1.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of life stress, depression, and smart-phone addiction on quality of life as well as to verify the variables related to quality of life and the factors contributing to quality of life among undergraduate students. The data were collected from 194 subjects at K university in G city using a self-administered questionnaire. T-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. As a result, mean scores of life stress, depression, smart-phone addiction, and quality of life were $62{\pm}.33$, $24{\pm}.3$, $2.59{\pm}.63$, and $3.48{\pm}.54$, respectively. There was a negative correlation between life stress, depression, smart-phone addiction, and quality of life. The factors influencing quality of life were life stress, depression, and smart-phone addiction. Based on these findings, it is necessary to improve quality of life and multidisciplinary interventions in order to reduce life stress, depression, and smart-phone addiction in undergraduate students. These findings contribute to the development of a program to improve quality of life among undergraduate students.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of experiential avoidance on the relationships between life stress, depression and smartphone addiction in nursing college students. This study was conducted using a descriptive survey design. Participants were 283 nursing college students attending freshmen and sophomore yearsat one university in Jeollanam-do. Data were collected from September 1 to 15, 2015 using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, hierarchical regression and Sobel test with SPSS 21.0. There were significant positive correlations between life stress, depression, smartphone addiction and experiential avoidance. Experiential avoidance partially mediated the relationship between life stress and depression of nursing students. Additionally, experiential avoidance partially mediated the relationship between their life stress and smartphone addiction. The results show that experiential avoidance plays a key role in psychopathology and grows with depression and smartphone addiction. Based on the present findings, nursing interventions should be developed to decrease experiential avoidance, with additional consideration towards the relationship between life stress and experiential avoidance, in order to prevent depression and smartphone addiction among nursing college students.
