In this paper, we are presenting a case that integrates ultra high strength concrete(150MPa) with surface-exposed concrete. Ahead of the field application, we carried out laboratory experiment and B/P Test for a basic property of concrete(slump flow, air content, 50cm flow time, elapse time change and compression strength) and productivity. The next, we conducted Mock-up Test using simulation specimen to evaluate infilling, surface-finishing and hydration heat of concrete. We had satisfactory results for a basic property and hydration heat of concrete. However at the time of field application, it was occurred rupture of formwork because of high lateral pressure of concrete, and then formwork was reinforced and case-in-place time was adjusted. And regardless of low and high frequency vibration, it occurred to surface-pockmark. In case that applies ultra high strength concrete to surface-exposed concrete, we estimate that it is important of systematic management and improvement of construction.

Yeoju-Bo is a large massive concrete structures that require the reduction of working period of construction. In this study, we optimized the mix proportion of internal/external concrete and physical properties like compressive strength, semi adiabatic temperature rise in laboratory. And we also performed thermal analysis to verify the thermal cracking. Lastly we measured the hydration heat and the thermal cracking in site to verify the safety of massive concrete structure.

In this study, to suggest an efficient method of using coal gasification slag(CGS), a byproduct from integrated gasification combined cycle(IGCC), as a combined fine aggregate for concrete mixture, the diverse performances of concrete mixtures with combined fine aggregates of CGS, river sand, and crushed sand were evaluated. Additionally, using CGS, the reduction of the hydration heat and the strength developing performance were analyzed to provide a method for reducing the heat of hydration of mass concrete by using combined fine aggregate with CGS and replacing fly ash with cement. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: as a method of recycling CGS from IGCC as concrete fine aggregate, a combination of CGS with crushed sand offers advantages for the concrete mixture. Additionally, when the CGS combined aggregate is used with low-heat-mix designed concrete with fly ash, it has the synergistic effect of reducing the hydration heat of mass concrete compared to the low-heat-designed concrete mixture currently in wide use.

This study aims to examine the effects of thickness of the concrete members and curing temperature on the properties of low heat concrete through heat of hydration analysis. Type of the members that was analyzed in the experiment is ternary mixture of ordinary portland cement, blast-furnace slag incorporating ratio(20%) and fly ash incorporating ratio(30%), which formed a mat foundation. Thicknesses of the concrete members were 1, 2 and 3(m) and three levels of curing temperatures were 10, 20 and 30(℃). They were applied to analyze the effects on the temperature and thermal cracking index. As a result, for temperature history, temperature difference between the central area and the surface tended to decrease as the thickness of the concrete members get thinner. For the temperature cracking index, on the other hand, the risk of cracking tended to decrease as the curing temperature gets higher and as the thickness gets thinner.

In process of reinforced concrete (RC) box structure. the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking. In order to eliminate hydration heat of mass concrete. this paper reports results of hydration heat control in mass concrete structure using the pulsating heat pipe. There were three RC box molds($1.2{\times}l.8{\times}2.4m^3$) which shows a difference as compared with each other. One was not equipped with pulsating heat pipe. The others were equipped with pulsating heat pipe. All of them were cooled with natural air convection. The pulsating heat pipe was composed of serpentine type copper pipe with 10 turns (outer diameter: 4mm. inner diameter: 2.8mm). The working fluid was R-22 and its charging ratio was 40% by volume. The conditions such as the number of turns. the length and the pitch of the pulsating heat pipe and the size of concrete structure were changed. Based on these experiments, it was confirmed that this construction method using pulsating heat pipe was effective to remove hydration heat of mass concrete structure and thus it was possible to prevent harmful thermal crack and construction Period and costs of concrete structure would be cut down.
Although most of existing hydration heat control methods show a certain degree of hydration heat control, generally, there are many problems as mentioned above. Therefore, our laboratory previously developed a hydration heat control method using an exposed heat pipe, which solves most of these problems and simultaneously displays excellent hydration heat control. Unfortunately, even this method had some problems such as the processing, transport, and assembly of heat pipes, and the surface treatment of a cut plane after pouring, and hardening concrete. Therefore, in this study, a hydration heat control method using an embedded pipe has been developed with the expectation that this method solves those problems in hydration heat control using an exposed heat pipe. As a result of the experiment, the peak temperature of ECHP and ICHP specimen about $4.5{\sim}6.5^{\circ}C$ than the OPC specimen and the probability of thermal cracked generated in ECHP and ICHP specimen decreased up to $13{\sim}20%$. Finally, it was confirmed in this study that the hydration heat control method using an embedded heat pipe is significantly more superior and cost effective than the existing method of an exposed one.
This study was intended to use an incinerated paper mill sludge ash as cement alternatives in order to derive a method of utilizing the incinerated paper mill sludge ash of low utilization rate in large quantities. Also, the utilization possibility of incinerated paper mill sludge ash as the cement alternative was examined by mixing a polypropylene fiber and cellulose fiber and by considering its control effect for shrinkage cracks caused by an increase of absorption rate and hydration heat, as a weakness shown at the alternation of incinerated paper mill sludge ash.
This study is devoted to the problems of thermal and shrinkage stresses in order to avoid cracking at early ages. The early-age damage induced by volume change has great influence on the long-term structural performance of the concrete structures such as its durability and serviceability To solve this complex problem, the computer programs for analysis of thermal and shrinkage stresses were developed. In these procedures, numerous material models are needed and the realistic numerical models have been developed and validated by comparison with relevant experimental results in order to solve practical problems. A framework has been established for formulation of material models and analysis with 3-D finite element method. After the analysis of the temperature, moisture and degree of hydration field in hardening concrete structure, the stress development is determined by incremental structural formulation derived from the principle of virtual work. In this study, the stress development is related to thermal and shrinkage deformation, and resulting stress relaxation due to the effect of early-age creep. From the experimental and numerical results it is found that the early-age creep p)ays important role in evaluating the accurate stress state. The developed analysis program can be efficiently utilized as a useful tool to evaluate the thermal and shrinkage stresses and to find measures for avoiding detrimental cracking of concrete structures at early ages.

In this study, the field applicability on reducing the heat of hydration of mass concrete by using the hydration heat difference method is analyzed with the following summary. As a result of applying the hydration heat difference method by using low heating combination, the temperature difference between the central part and the surface part of mass material was reduced, and as a result of visual observation, there was no showing of cracks by the hydration heat on the upper surface part. Therefore, the cracking index of the field to apply this method was shown to be approximately 1.57 with very little crack occurrence probability of less than 3%.

This study was a result of mock-up test for the field application which was compared between low heat cement and temperature-reducing binder with the way of temperature crack reduction. The result of mock-up test was shown that the heat of hydration from the low heat cement and the temperature-reducing binder indicated 44 and $54^{\circ}C$ respectively.
