  • In order to suggest desirable management of college mathematics for freshmen in middle level engineering college, we analyse the change of mathematics recognition between 2011 year and 2015 year freshmen who took college scholastic ability test which are based on the national mathematics curriculum 7th and 7th revision, respectively. In A university, 2011 year and 2015 year engineering freshmen were taken basic mathematical ability test and given the survey for the recognition of mathematics and college mathematics. Research results are as follows: First of all, middle level engineering freshmen were poor at basic mathematical ability. The change of mathematics recognition appeared in the level of mathematics ability and the effort for college mathematics class. Moreover middle level engineering freshmen recognize college mathematics as a basic subject for engineering and hope teacher-directed learning in college mathematics class. For the success of college mathematics in engineering college, this study suggests basic mathematical ability test and the survey for the recognition of mathematics and college mathematics. We also suggest that college mathematics class must be focused on basic mathematical ability improvement and self-directed learning.

  • In this study, we research distinctive features of geometry problem solving of middle school students whose mathematical achievement levels are distinguished by National Assessment of Educational Achievement. We classified 9 students into 3 groups according to their level : advanced level, proficient level, basic level. They solved an atypical geometry problem while all their problem solving stages were observed and then analyzed in aspect of development of geometrical concepts and access to the route of problem solving. As those analyses, we gave some suggestions of teaching on mathematics as students' achievement level.

  • In this paper, we selected 145 students from engineering college students who took P University's the Scholastic Level Assessment and registered the Basic Mathematics Class among the students who achieved 4th~7th grade in the mathematics B-type of the College Scholastic Ability Test. We compared and analyzed the correlation among the chosen students' grade for the College Scholastic Ability Test, test results of the Scholastic Level Assessment and mid-term test of the Basic Mathematics Subject, type of college entrance and actual condition survey of students in order to derive optimized teaching method for general mathematics subjects which can possibly increase the students' academic ability.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the freshmen's achievements on general mathematics their GPA based on 'basic mathematics diagonal test score' among college entrance types in natural science or engineering. Also, we studied the achievements of students who were not passed the 'Basic Mathematics Diagonal Test (BMDT)' and had to take supplementary lessons to improve their mathematics abilities four times a week during the first semester of academic year 2012 in Mokpo National University. We found the followings; first, freshmen were accepted by the university through the regular admission have a higher level of academic achievement compared other type admission. Second, freshmen's academic achievement in the first semester has significant meaningful effect on their academic achievement in the second semester. Finally, there are correlations between achievements of general mathematics and a curriculum of freshmen who were passed test after taking supplementary lessons.

  • As education is one of key factors to improve national competitiveness, quality education becomes a top priority in all countries around the world. In South Korea, The Basic Skills Competency Test is administered annually to select below-basic third graders and provide intervention programs. The Basic Skills Competency Test was designed to diagnose the minimal competency of third graders according to a national-level standards. The purpose of this study was to analyze standard-setting procedures and set cut-off scores. This study offered the empirical evidence that standard-setting is generally applicable in schools by the modified Ebel method. More future researches addressing appropriate and efficient standard-setting methods in real school situations are needed to be taken in.

  • The results analysis of National Assessment of Educational Achievement(NAEA) can provide various implications for teaching and learning in the school field. In this study we analyzed the deviation of NAEA achievement level-based correct-answer rate and the distribution of the responses percentages for three years from 2015 to 2017 focused on multiple-choice items. First we calculated the deviation of correct-answer rate between advanced level and proficient level and between proficient level and basic level, and then we selected the items whose deviation of correct-answer rate is more than the third quartile. We explored what the content areas, behavior areas and achievement standards of each item are and what the achievement standards and characteristics of these questions are. Based on the results of the analysis, we intended to derive implications for appropriate teaching-learning methods at each achievement-level.

  • We carried out mathematics diagnostic tests for all first year engineering students at C University in Daejeon in 2008, covering precalculus and basic calculus. Then we divided into two classes such as regular and supplementary classes. The supplementary class students are lower 13% students. Then we gave extra classes for these students to support their basic and elementary calculus skills. As a result, these supplementary students received a meaningful accomplishment at the final exam. This paper analyzes the results and effects of various types of supplementary classes such as education by level, and proposes some strategies to enhance mathematics learning, particularly for under achieving first year engineering students.

  • The purpose of this paper is to discover effective teaching and learning methods for improving low level mathematic matriculants', who passed the early decision program, problem solving abilities by analyzing their error patterns in the special lecture for basic mathematics in P University. In this paper, we examine the matriculants' understanding and errors on the fundamental concepts of function, and continuity and differentiability of function based on the pre-examination. We also measure the their academic achievement in the special lecture for basic mathematics, and analyze the differences of error patterns between pre-test and post-test result on the concepts of continuity and differentiability of function.
