The Characteristic Investigation of the Flowfield around Two Circular Cylinders in Various Arrangements Using the PIV (PIV를 이용한 다양한 배열에서 2원주 주위의 유동장 특성 연구)

  • The characteristics of the flowfields around two circular cylinders in various arrangements were investigated by PIV. In tandem arrangement, the Strouhal numbers measured in the rear region of the cylinder of wake side were decreased with the space ratios, the flow between two cylinders was almost stagnated and the closer to upstream cylinder, the larger the width of the stagnated region was. The direction of vortex between two cylinders was opposed each other with the small difference(${\alpha}$=${\pm}1.0^{\circ}$) of the attack angle . In side by side arrangement, the flow velocity between two circular cylinders were increased with the space ratios.

Lateral Behavior of Group Pile in Sand (사질토 지반에서 군말뚝의 수평거동에 관한 연구)

  • This paper discusses the lateral behavior of group pile in homogeneous and non- homogeneous (two layered) soil. In the group pile, the model tests were to investigate the effects on spacing-to-diameter ratio of pile, pile array, ratio of pile spacing, constraint condition of pile tip, eccentric load and ground condition. The group efficiency and lateral deflection induced in active piles were found to be highly dependent on the spacing-to-diameter ratio of pile, number of pile. Lateral bearing capacities in the group piles of fixed tip, in the case of 6D spacing and $3\times3$ array, were 40-100% higher than those in the group pile of free tip. Based on the results obtained, a spacing-to-diameter of 6.0 seems to be large enough to eliminate the group effect for the case of relative density of 61.8% and 32.8%, and then each pile in such a case behaves essentially the same as a single pile. However, in the case of dense sand, it can be estimated that a spacing-to-diameter of 8.0 seems to be large enough to eliminate the group effect. In this study the group efficiency is illustrated in experimental function with spacing-to-diameter, S/D, relative density and number of pile. The distribution of shear force in lead row piles, in the case of 3$\times$3 array group pile, was 41.6-52.4% for 3D spacing and 34-40% for 6D spacing, respectively. The shadowing effect for the parallel direction of lateral loading appears to be more significant than the one for the perpendicular direction of lateral loading.

  • The conformal array sensor has different sub-array depending on different beam steering directions. According to the method to effective the sensor, the performance of the conformal array sensor can be different, where the sub-array selects an effective sensor. Also, due to the figure of the conformal array sensor, the figure of the sub-array can be different each other, which results in different performance on directivity index, beam width and etc. In this paper, two methods to select sub-array which is the criteria for each sensors position vector and directive vector were proposed. For two sub-array selection methods, the performance of the directivity index, horizontal and vertical beam width were compared with the average and variance. In addition, this comparison was conducted when the number of sensors was fixed. When the number of sensors was not fixed, the directional vector method mainly results in high performance, but the performance of vertical beam width was lower or equal. When the number of sensors was fixed, the performance of two methods is similar, but the performance of variance was deteriorated.

  • For the purpose of controlling the beam tilt angle of the base station sector array antenna, phase shifter is used. Phase angles of this antenna depending on the tilt angles are designed, and the patterns on the vertical and horizontal planes are simulated and analyzed for the evaluation of base station antenna. This analysis is used in the optimal design of base station antenna because of maximum cell coverage and incremented traffic capacity, decreased interference.

Design Study of Automatic Cut-off Horizontal Valve for a LPG Cylinder (LP가스용 차단기능형 수평식 용기밸브에 대한 설계연구)

  • In this paper, the valves for a LPG gas cylinder have been investigated on the body height and weight by comparing design data between typical automatic shut-off vertical and newly developed horizontal valves. The height of an automatic shut-off horizontal valve is radically reduced by 41~42% compared with that of a typical automatic shut-off vertical valve. And, the body weight of a horizontal valve is also reduced by 29~40% compared with that of a vertical shut-off valve. This result is just achieved by a structural design modification from typical vertical valve to horizontal arrangement of various valve components.

Experimental Behavior Characteristics of 2×2 Group Pile under Lateral Loads (수평하중을 받는 2×2 무리말뚝의 실험적 거동 특성)

  • In this study, the large scale laboratory model tests were executed to investigate the lateral resistance characteristics of $2{\times}2$ group pile under lateral loads according to the array method and installation angle of piles. The effect on the behavior of $2{\times}2$ group pile was also investigated through model tests varying the pile diameter and length, distance to pile top from the ground surface, center-to-center (CTC) length and surcharge etc. From these test results, it was found that the lateral resistance of $2{\times}2$ group pile of which piles were constructed slantly in both directions was greater than that of group pile of which piles were constructed vertically. And as a result of parameter tests on the lateral resistance of $2{\times}2$ group pile, it was found that the most important parameter was the pile length. As the embedment depth ratio (L/D) increased to 36.5 from 26.5, the lateral resistance increased 3~4 times or more. But the center-to-center (CTC) length, distance to pile top from the ground surface and surcharge did not affect much on the lateral resistance of group pile.

  • We have fabricated the vacuum magnetic sensor with a lateral field emitter arrays constructed on n-Si substrate, and investigated its magnetic characteristics. The device consists of 100 field-emitter tips with a $10{\mu}m$ pitch, gate, and split-anodes which are laterally structured. The electron-emission characteristics from the emitter followed the Fowler-Nordheim tunnelling theory. The sensor has good linear characteristics and high sensitivity of 825 %/T.

Robust variable range focusing with a virtual source array using the waveguide invariant in underwater (수중에서의 도파관 불변성을 이용한 가상 음원 배열 기반의 다양한 거리 방향으로의 강인한 집속)

  • A concept of a VSA (Virtual Source Array) is the method for an acoustic spatio-temporal focus at a selected location in the outbound direction with respect to the VSA without the need of a probe source as combines a TRP (Time-Reversal Processing) and time-delay and beam-steering. However, in TRP using the VSA concept, it is limited to the critical angle and the short distances relevant to the VSA. In this paper, the waveguide invariant theory is applied to the VSA concept to refocus the received field at ranges greater other than the critical angle and the short ranges by shifting the focused field. The suggested method is verified via numerical simulation, and the results show that the robust acoustic focusing is achieved on the selected location regardless of the limitation on the conventional VSA concept.

Installation of Pilot Plant and Troubleshootings of Horizontally Linked Helical Turbines with Unconfined Free Flow Condition in Artificial Channel (인공수로에서의 수평 배열 헬리컬수차 현장시험 사례와 문제점)

  • 국내외에 아직 개발 실적이 없는 발전소의 해수방류수를 이용한 조류식발전시스템의 개발을 위하여, 현재 하동화력발전소 해수방수로를 대상으로 헬리컬 수차를 이용한 조류식발전 시험설비를 제작 완료하고, 성능 시험이 진행 중이며, 본 연구에서는 성능 시험 과정에서 나타난 제반 문제점을 제시하고 그에 대한 원인 및 대책을 분석해 보았다. 본 시험설비는 인공수로에서 수평 배열 헬리컬수차로서 기계장치의 안정성 및 수차의 효율을 평가하고자 하였다. 조류식 시험장치는 배수로의 빠른 유속으로 인하여 시공이 매우 어려웠으며, 인공수로임에도 불구하고 유지관리를 위한 적정 구조 선정이 곤란한 상황이었다. 또한, 헬리컬 수차는 서로 직렬연결되어 운전할 수 있는 장점이 있으나, 본 연구와 같이 다수의 수차가 연결될 경우, 보다 높은 축정렬 정확성, 커플링, 베어링 정밀도 등이 요구되어 효율 감소의 원인이 됨을 확인하였다. 본 장치는 시험용으로서 정밀한 베어링 및 수밀구조, 증속장치를 채택하지 않았으나, 상업용에서는 이를 개선할 필요성이 있다고 판단된다. 또한, 수차의 설치와 유지관리 조건 향상, 수차 통과부의 유황 개선, 수차의 효율 향상을 위하여 조류식 수차에도 유도수로와 casing, draft tube와 같은 Confined flow 구조를 일부 채택할 필요성이 있다고 판단된다.
