An explicit direct time integration method based solution algorithm is proposed to predict dynamic postbuckling response of thin plates. Based on the von Karman's plate equations and Marquerre's shallow shell theory, a rectangular plate finite element is formulated and utilized in this study. The element formulation takes into account geometrical nonlinearity and initial deflection of plates. The solution algorithm employs the central difference method. Using the computer program developed by the authors, dynamic postbuckling behavior of elastic thin plates under impact loading is investigated by considering the time variation of load and load duration. The efficiency of the proposed solution algorithm is examined through illustrative numerical examples.

In order to calculate reflection coefficients of surface waves due to underwater obstacles, the hybrid boundary integral equation method is used. Numerical results based on the linear element are verified to the exact solutions for a flat bottom. Reflection coefficient and transmission coefficients for a step are compared to Young's results and the results by EFEM (Kirby et al., 1987), in which reflection coefficients decrease to zero as the periods of incident waves decrease. Reflection coefficients for a sinusiodal hump located on a constant depth increase due to the interaction between humps.

When the thickness becomes so small as in the case of the trailing edge of the propeller blade or when the curvature of the surface varies rapidly as in ship stem, the existing panel method employing a flat-surface panel, obtained by collapsing the original non-planar surface into its mean location, suffers the leakage problem and also gives inaccurate induction upon the field point very close to the panel. The hyperboloidal panel deals with the induction from the dipole distributed on the non-planar surface without approximation, overcoming the defects of the flat-surface panel. This paper introduces two distinct derivations of the formulae to compute the integral for the potential induced by a dipole of uniform density distributed on a non-planar hyperboloidal surface element. One method is based on the Gauss-Bonnet theorem and the other is based on the transformation of the surface integral into a line integral.

For non-linear analysis of stiffened shell structures, the total Lagrangian formulation is presented based upon the degenerated shell element. Geometrically correct formulation is developed by updating the direction of normal vectors and taking into account second order rotational terms in the incremental displacement field. Assumed strain concept is adopted in order to overcome shear locking phenomena and to eliminate spurious zero energy mode. The post-buckling behaviors of stiffened shell structures are traced by modeling the stiffener as a shell element and considering general transformation between the main structure and the stiffener at the connection node. Numerical examples to demonstrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed shell element are presented and compared with references' results.

In this paper the adaptive crack propagation analysis based on the estimated local and global error in the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is presented. It is possible to keep consistency and accuracy of analysis in each propagation step by adaptive analysis. The adaptivity analysis in crack propagation is achieved by adding and removing the node along the background integration cell that are refined or recovered as estimated error. These errors are obtained by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and original EFG stresses. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the convergence behavior is investigated lot several examples. The results of these examples show the efficiency of proposed scheme in crack propagation analysis.
The free-surface boundary conditions are persistent problem in elastic wave equation modeling by finite-difference method, which can be summarized with the degradation of the accuracy of the solution and limited stability range in Poisson's ratio. In this paper, we propose the mid-point averaging scheme as an alternative way of implementing the free-surface boundary conditions, and present the solution to Lamb's problem to verify our approach.
Spectral domain of resonant frequency rectangular microstrip patch antenna on anisotropic substrates and superstrate with airgap are analyzed. First, we derive dyadic Green function for selected anisotropic material by constitutive relation and then formulate integral equations of electric fields using Fourier transform in space region. Using Galerkin's moment method, we discretize the electric field integral equations Into the matrix form and select sinusoidal functions as basis functions. We verify the validity of numerical results and compare the results with existing ones in showing a good agreement between them. The resonant frequencies in the variation of air gap, patch length and permittivity of superstrate anisotrpy ratio of anisotrpic superstrate are presented and analyzed.

Estimating the first order plus time delay model on the basis of the step responses has been widely used in industry for the tuning of PID controllers. Even though various model identification methods from simple graphical approaches to complicated approaches based on least squares method have been proposed, simple approaches to incorporate noisy step responses are rarely available. In this research, we will compare and analyze recent approaches using the integrals of the step responses and develop an improved identification method to incorporate real situations more effectively.

A branched crack in a semi-infinite plate under uniform tension and bending moment is considered in this study By using the superposition, the stress and moment intensity factors for the branched crack subjected to uniform tension and bending moment we evaluated. The stress intensity factors we obtained by using the finite element method and the J-based mutual integral. The moment intensity factors are calculated by extrapolating the values of the moment new the crack tip. Numerical results lot the normalized stress and moment Intensity factors we shown as functions of the ratio of branched crack length to main crack length and the branching angle.

Experimental results of $30^{\circ}-15^{\circ}$ nozzles were compared with numerically calculated convective heat transfer coefficients using FLUENT, Boundary Layer Integration Method and Bartz predictions. Also, the convective heat transfer coefficients were calculated by using FLUENT and boundary layer integration method for NASA HIPPO nozzles according to the characteristics of combustion gas and the correlation between pressure and pressure was compared. Finally, thermal analysis of NASA HIPPO nozzle was performed to compare the ablation thickness and char depth according to the combustion gas characteristics.
