  • CFT (Concrete-Filled Tube) is a type of steel column comprised of steel tube and concrete. Steel tube holds concrete and the concrete inside tube takes charge of compressive load. This study presents structural performance of the CFT column which has 73~100 MPa high strength concrete inside. Fluidity, mechanical compression, pump pressure test in flexible pipe were conducted for understanding properties of the high strength concrete. Material properties were achieved by various experimental tests, such as slump, slump flow, air content, U-box, O-Lot, L-flow. In addition, mock-up tests were conducted to monitor concrete filling, hydration heat, compressive strength. From construction sites in Sang-am dong and University of Seo-kang, long-term behaviors could be effectively predicted in terms of ACI 209 material model considering elastic deformation, shrinkage and creep.

  • The heat resistance of steel materials tends to weaken due to its high heat transfer properties, which might result in deteriorated strength because of rapidly rising temperature on surface in a fire. Particularly in case of CFT column that bears tensile stress of the structure on its external steel members, a numerical analysis on deterioration of strength and variation of stress shall be first carried out to ensure the structure will have sufficient fire resistance. In the study, based on values obtained from the high temperature material property test of steel materials and concrete, the test to forecast the fire behavior of CFT column was conducted using a finite element analysis method (ABAQUS). An Analysis in a bid to predict the heat transfer and the behavior characteristics by varying the strength of the concrete filled to the range of 40MPA and 50MPA was carried out. As a result of analysis of CFT column on condition of 180-minute exposure under the standard fire condition, 123mm of strain appeared with 40MPA model, while 91mm contraction with 50MPA model.

  • The purpose of this study was to propose a model which is suitable for the actual delivery system by designing a fetal delivery hospital operation management and fetal health classification model. The number of deaths during childbirth is similar to the number of maternal mortality rate of 295,000 as of 2017. Among those numbers, 94% of deaths are preventable in most cases. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a model that predicts the health condition of the fetus using data like heart rate of fetuses, fetal movements, uterine contractions, etc. that are extracted from the Cardiotocograms(CTG) test using a random forest. If the redundancy of the data is unbalanced, This proposed model guarantees a stable management of the fetal delivery health management system. To secure the accuracy of the fetal delivery health management system, we remove the outlier which embedded in the system, by setting thresholds for the upper and lower standard deviations. In addition, as the proportion of the sequence class uses the health status of fetus, a small number of classes were replicated by data-resampling to balance the classes. We had the 4~5% improvement and as the result we reached the accuracy of 97.75%. It is expected that the developed model will contribute to prevent death and effective fetal health management, also disease prevention by predicting and managing the fetus'deaths and diseases accurately in advance.

  • When curing the composite, the fibers have little thermal deformation, but the resin changes its properties with time and temperature, which leads to residual stress in the product. Residual stress is caused by the difference in the coefficient of thermal expansion of the fibers and resin during the curing process and the chemical shrinkage of the resin. This difference causes thermal deformation such as spring-in and warpage. Thermal deformation of composite structure is important issue on quality of product, and it should be considered in manufacturing process. In this study, a subroutine was developed to predict thermal deformation by applying 3-D viscoelastic model. The finite element analysis was verified by comparing the results of the plate analysis of the 2-D viscoelastic model. Spring-in of L-shaped structure was predicted and analyzed by applying the 3-D viscoelastic model.

  • Cobalt can be released into the natural environment as industrial waste from the alloying industry and as acid mine drainage, and it is also a radionuclide (60Co) that constitutes high-level radioactive waste. Smectite is a mineral that can be useful for adsorption and isolation of this element. In this study, Cheto-type montmorillonite (Cheto-MM), which is the source clays of The Clay Mineral Society (CMS) and already well-characterized, was used. The effect of the adsorption site affected by the presence of interlayer water on the adsorption of cobalt before and after dehydration by heating was evaluated and the adsorption mechanism of cobalt on Cheto-MM was studied by applying adsorption kinetics and adsorption isotherm models. The results showed that the adsorption characteristics changed with dehydration and subsequent shrinkage, and cobalt was found to be adsorbed at the edge of Cheto-MM for about 38% and adsorbed at the interlayer site for about 62%, suggesting that the cobalt adsorption of Cheto-MM is significantly influenced by the interlayer. By applying the adsorption kinetic models, the cobalt adsorption kinetics of Cheto-MM is explained by a pseudo-second-order model, and the concentration-dependent adsorption was best described by the Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. This study provides basic knowledge on the adsorption characteristic of cobalt on montmorillonite with different adsorption sites and is expected to be useful in predicting the adsorption behavior of smectite in high-level radioactive waste disposal sites in the future.

  • One of the most vulnerable properties in concrete is tensile cracking, which usually happens at early ages due to hydration heat and shrinkage. In order to accurately predict the early age cracking, it needs to find out how stress-crack opening relation is varying over time. In this study, inverse analyses were performed with the existing experimental data for wedge-splitting tests, and the parameters of the softening curve for the stress-crack opening relation were determined from the best fits of the measured load-CMOD curves. Based on the optimized softening curve, variation of fracture energy over time was first examined, and a model for the stress-crack opening relation at early ages was suggested considering the found feature of the fracture energy. The model was verified by comparisons of the peak loads, CMODs at peak loads, and fracture energies obtained from the experiments and the inverse analysis.

  • Moisture evaporates, when concrete is exposed to fire, not only at concrete surface but also at inside the concrete to adjust the equilibrium and transfer properties of moisture. The equilibrium properties of moisture are described by means of water vapor sorption isotherms, which illustrate the hysteretical behavior of materials. In this paper, the prediction method of the moisture distribution inside the concrete members at fire is presented. Finite element method is employed to facilitate the moisture diffusion analysis for any position of member. And the moisture diffusivity model of high strength concrete by high temperature is proposed. To demonstrate the validity of this numerical procedure, the prediction by the proposed algorithm is compared with the test result of other researcher. The proposed algorithm shows a good agreement with the experimental results including the vaporization effect inside the concrete.

  • The thermoelastic behavior of the porous carbon/phenolic composites is studied using the thermomechanical response model of chemically decomposing composites. The model includes thermal dependence of the porous composites, porosity in the pyrolysis process, pore pressure due to decomposing gases, and shrinkage. The poroelastic coefficients are calculated based on representative volume element model and finite element analysis. The internal stress distribution caused by pores and pore pressure, and the overall deformation are verified. The effects of the poroelastic coefficients on the thermoelastic behavior are examined through numerical experiments.

  • This paper proposes degree of hydration based shrinkage prediction model of 40MPa HPC. This model shows degree of hydration which is defined as the ratio between the hydrated cement mass and the initial mass of cement is very closely related to shrinkage deformation. In this study, degree of hydration was determined by CEMHYD-3D program of NIST. Verification of the predicted degree of hydration is performed by comparison between test results of compressive strength and estimated one by CEMHYD-3D. Proposed model is determined by statistical nonlinear analysis using the program Origin of Origin Lab. Co. To get coefficients of the model, drying shrinkage tests of four specimen series were followed with basic material tests. Testes were performed in constant temperature /humidity chamber, with difference moisture curing ages to know initial curing time effect. Verification with another specimen, collected construction field of FCM bridge, was given in the same condition as pre-tested specimens. Finally, all test results were compared to propose degree of hydration based model and other code models; AASHTO, ACI, CEB-FIP, JSCE, etc.
