A study on wideband underwater acoustic signal amplifier design for generating multi-frequency (다중 주파수 재생을 위한 광대역 수중 음향 신호 증폭기 설계 연구)

  • The problem that occurred in the design/fabrication/testing of the wideband transmitting power amplifier for an embedded active SONAR (Sound Navigation and Ranging) system operating underwater was analyzed and the solution of the problem was proposed in this paper. Wideband acoustic SONAR systems had been developed in order to improve the underwater detection performance. The underwater acoustic transmission system had been also developed to achieve the wideband SONAR system. In this paper, the wideband acoustic transmission signal was generated using a 2 Level sawtooth type Class D PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) which was not complicated to implement. When the sonar signals having two or more frequencies were simultaneously generated, parasitic frequencies were added to the original signals by integer multiples of the frequency difference of the original signal. To cope with this problem, we proposed a way to remove the parasitic frequency from the source signal through modeling and simulation of the implemented power amplifier and PWM control hardware using MATLAB and Simulink.

  • It is necessary to analyze underwater acoustics channel(UAC) modeling and simulation for underwater weapon system development and acquisition. In order to analyze UAC, there are underwater acoustics propagation numerical analysis models(Ray theory, Parabolic equation, Normal-mode, Wavenumber integration). However, If these models are used for multiple frequency signal analysis, they are inaccurate to calculate result of analysis effectiveness and restricted for signal processing and analysis. In this paper, to overcome this problem, we propose simple/multiple frequency signal analysis model of the Pseudospectral Time-Domain Method synthetic environment UAC applied to underwater environment noise model as like as realistic underwater environment. In order to confirm the validation of the model, we performed the 9 scenarios simulation(4 scenarios of single frequency signal, 4 scenarios of multiple frequency signal, 1 scenario of single/multiple frequency signal like submarine radiated noise) for validation and confirmed the validation of this model through the simulation model.

  • In order to predict the performance and the usefulness of the narrow-band underwater acoustic measurement system at design stage, whose error variance is not clearly described, in this study a boundary equation to estimate the measurement accuracy is proposed based on the confidency as SNR variation. The boundary is presented as a function of SNR and the number of samples. In this paper, the measurement performance for narrow-band signal is simulated by the proposed boundary equation and the results are reviewed in the biased noise condition and separately in the background noise rejected condition.

  • The existing underwater acoustic communications modem is developing based on commercial products, so it is possible on functionality and performance of underwater acoustic communications modem implementation. But the production of development system is required to single platform system implementation at the system's size and cost. So this paper designs and implements the signal processing module as an important role to single hardware platform production of underwater acoustic communication modem by using TigerSHARC DSP processor.

  • 수중음향통신을 위한 빔형성 알고리듬은 수중음향통신 신호가 상대대역폭(대역폭에 대한 반송주파수 비)이 큰 광대역 신호 특성을 고려해야한다. 우리는 본 논문에서 위상동기식 디지털 수중음향통신을 위한 협대역 신호 가정을 하지 않은 기저대역 배열 신호 모델을 유도하고 RLS 알고리듬을 이용하여 가중치를 갱신하는 FTR 필터 구조의 광대역 적응 빔형성 알고리듬에 대해서 전산 모의실험을 통하여 FIR 필터 길이, tap간 간격 등과 같은 최적의 FIR 필터 파라미터를 제시하였다.

  • 수중음향 센서로서 감도가 높고 제작이 비교적 용이한 광섬유 하이드로폰은 근래에 미국 및 유럽 등지에서 활발히 연구 개발되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 알루미늄 맨드릴에 150 m 길이의 광섬유를 감아 광섬유 하이드로폰을 제작하였다. 광섬유 하이드로폰의 음향 감지 성능을 보기 위하여 Mach-Zehnder형 광간섭계를 구성하고 신호 안정화를 위하여 3 * 3 광결합기를 이용하였으며 이것을 음향수조에서 실험을 하였다. 음향신호의 주파수를 2kHz로 구동하였을 때 제작된 광섬유 하이드로폰은 음향신호를 안정적으로 감지함을 확인하였다.

Long-Range Sound Transmission Characteristics in Shallow-Water Channel with Thermocline (수온약층이 존재하는 천해역 수중음향 채널의 장거리 신호 전달 특성)

  • This paper analyzes the effect of a thermocline on the long-range acoustic signal propagation using the experimental data acquired in the shallow water near Jeju island. Temperature and salinity measurement data in Korea Oceanographic Data Center (KODC) show that the seasonal thermocline exists near Jeju island, and, under the thermocline, the bottom loss property strongly affects the long-range propagation of acoustic signal along the down-ward refractive paths. We estimate the bottom loss under the thermocline using experiment data obtained near Jeju island in May, 2013. The result shows that the estimated bottom losses are below 3 dB and the higher level signal is received at the deeper receiver depths. This shows that the acoustic trapping under the thermocline can be a viable long-range signal transmission channel in the shallow water with a thermocline.

  • Time spread due to the multipath in underwater acoustic channel, induces ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) which degrades the performance of the underwater acoustic communication system. The passive phase conjugation (PPC) which improves the signal to multipath interference ratio (SMR) and therefore reduces the frequency selectivity. is a diversity communication technique giving a less ISI under multipath fading channel. Its frequency selectivity depends on the number of receiver array sensors and time varying source to receiver range. In this study, frequency selectivity of the PPC and its effects on bit error of underwater acoustic communication is analyzed by numerical simulation.

  • 수중에서 가청 주파수 대역에서 평탄한 수중음향 방사체의 제작을 목적으로 두고 사전 조사로서 알루미늄 진동판과 혼스피커 유니트를 이용하여 수압에 대한 영향과 구동전기계의 절연 문제들을 고려하여 설계 및 제작하였다. 수조와 해양이 20m수심층에서 음향신호의 방사실험결과는 본 연구에서 설계.제작된 수중음향 방사체가 수압의 영향을 받으므로 이 영향을 고려하여 스피커의 후면에 설치한 공기주머니의 공기량에 따라 음향특성이 다르게 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.
