Experiments have been performed using two-color PIV in hydrogen non-premixed flames with various conditions of coaxial air, which was classified into three cases with/without reaction. Mean velocity, turbulence intensity and Reynolds stress were analyzed using flow fields from PIV measurement First, the similarity of pure jet had a good agreement with previous results of other researchers. It was found that the decay of centerline velocity was proportional to $x^{-1}$ in coaxial air conditions. By normalizing axial distance with effective jet diameter defined by effective density, the data of centerline velocity collapsed a single line. And the radial profiles of mean velocity showed that they didn't become self-similar because the curves differed from each other as coaxial air velocity increased at fixed fuel velocity. Also, turbulence intensity became self-similar further downstream than mean velocity.
The characteristics of flame shape, laminar burning velocity, emissions and heat flux of stagnation point in premixed impinging jet flame of syngas fuel with 10% hydrogen content were experimentally investigated. Also, the adiabatic temperature and burning velocity are calculated by Chemkin package with USC-II mechanism. The equivalence ratios(0.8~5.0) and dimensionless separation distance(2.0~5.0) with fixed Reynolds number(1800) are main parameters in this work. Different flame shapes and colors were observed for different impingement conditions. The experimental results of burning velocity by flame surface area have a consistent with previous works and numerical simulation of this work. The inner flame length could be predicted with the ratio of mixture velocity and burning velocity from a simple formulation by the laminar burning velocity definition. It has been observed that the heat fluxes at stagnation point are directly affected by the flame shape including the separation distance. The emission results in impinging flame of syngas fuel show that the characteristics of $NO_x$ emission traced well with adiabatic temperature trend and CO emission due to fuel rich condition increased continuously with respect to the equivalence ratio.

In this study, an experimental study was conducted on the flame behavior, combustion dynamics, and NOx emission characteristics for hydrogen co-firing with the EV burner which is the first stage combustor of GT24. It was confirmed that as the hydrogen co-firing rate increases, the NOx emission increases. This change was elucidate to be the result of a combination of changes in penetration depth due to changes in fuel density, reduction in fuel mixing due to changes in flame position due to increased flame propagation speed, and oscillation of fuel mixedness due to combustion instability. Through pressurization tests in the range of 1.3 to 3.1 bar, NOx emission characteristics under high-pressure operating conditions were predicted, and based on this, the hydrogen co-firing limits of the EV burner was evaluated.
We developed a preliminary CFD analysis methodology to predict a pressure build up due to hydrogen flame acceleration in the APR1400 IRWST on the basis of CFD analysis results for test data of hydrogen flame acceleration in a scaled-down test facility performed by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. We found out that ANSYS CFX-13 with a combustion model of the so-called turbulent flame closure and a model constant of A = 5.0, a grid model with a hexahedral cell length of 5.0 mm, and a time step size of $1.0{\times}10^{-5}$ s can be a useful tool to predict the pressure build up due to the hydrogen flame acceleration in the test results. Through the comparison of the simulated results with the test results, we found out that the proposed CFD analysis methodology enables us to predict the peak pressure within an error range of about ${\pm}29%$ for the hydrogen concentration of 19.5%. However, the error ranges of the peak pressure for the hydrogen concentration of 15.4% and 18.6% were about 66% and 51%, respectively. To reduce the error ranges in case of the hydrogen concentration of 15.4% and 18.6%, some uncertainties of the test conditions should be clarified. In addition, an investigation for a possibility of flame extinction in the test results should be performed.

Rayleigh scattering and laser induced predissociative fluorescence are used to obtain two-dimensional images of temperature and species concentration in a laminar non-premixed flame of a diluted hydrogen jet. Rayleigh scattering cross-sections are experimentally obtained at 248nm. Planar images of OH and $O_2$ with tunable KrF excimer laser which has a) $0.5cm^{-1}$ linewidth, b) 0.5nm tuning range, c) 150mJ pulse energy, and d) 20ns pulse width are obtained to determine spatial distributions of OH and $O_2$. The technique is based on planar laser induced predissociative fluorescence (PLIPF) in which collisional quenching is almost avoided because of the fast predissociation. Dispersed LIPF spectra of OH and $O_2$ are also measured in a flame in order to confirm the excitation of single vibronic state of OH and $O_2$. OH and $O_2$ are excited on the $P_2$(8) and $Q_1$(11) line of the $A^2{\Sigma}^{+}({\nu}^{'}=3)-X^{2}{\Pi}({\nu}^{''}=o)$ band and R(17) line of the Schumann-Runge band $B^{3}{\Sigma}_{u}{^-}(\nu^{'}=0)-X^{3}{\Sigma}_{g}{^-}({\nu}^{''}=6)$, respectively. Fluorescence spectra of OH and Hot $O_2$ are captured and two-dimensional images of the hydrogen flame field are successfully visualized.
Experimental investigation on flame spread of blended fuel droplet arrays has been conducted for droplet diameters of 1.0mm and 0.75mm using high-speed chemiluminescence images of OH radical. The flame spread rate is measured with blended fuel composition, droplet diameter, and droplet spacing. Flame spread is categorized into two: a continuous mode and an intermittent one. There exist a limit droplet spacing, above which flame does not spread, and a droplet spacing of maximum flame spread, which is closely related to flame diameter. It is seen that flame spread rate is mainly dependent upon the relative position of flame zone within a droplet spacing. In case of large droplet, the increase of % volume of Heptane induces the shift of limit droplet spacing to a larger spacing since volatile Heptane plays a role of an enhancer of flame spread rate. In case of small droplet, the increase of % volume of Heptane leads to the shift of limit droplet spacing to a smaller droplet spacing. This is so because of the delayed chemical reaction time by the rapid increase of mass flux of fuel vapor for small droplet.

The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with $H_2$ and $CH_4$ were studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by simulation using detailed chemistry. The results show that EINOx of $CH_4$ and $H_2$ flames have different trends in terms of equivalence ratio and fuel flow rate but have the same trends in terms of nozzle diameter. These differences can be explained by the following Thermal and Prompt trends in both flames. Thermal EINOx trends can be describe in function of residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature and Prompt EINOx trends can be described in function of flame surface area of each combustion conditions.

An axisymmetric laminar jet diffusion flame has been numerically modelled. The present study employs the refined physical submodels to account for the detailed chemical kinetics and the variable transport properties. It is found that preferential diffusion resulting from variable transport properties significantly influences the hydrogen diffusion flame structure in terms of the spatial distribution for temperature, species concentration, thermal and mass diffusivity, Lewis number, and NO concentration. The preferential diffusion effects on the diffusion flame in the high-pressure environment are also discussed in detail.

The flame structure and soot formation in the counterflow Ethylene-Air nonpremixed flame are numerically analyzed. The present soot reaction mechanism involves nucleation, surface growth, particle coagulation, and oxidation steps. The gas phase chemistry and the soot nucleation, surface growth reactions are coupled by assuming that the nucleation and soot mass growth has the certain relationship with the concentration of benzene and acetylene. In terms of the centerline velocity and the soot volume fraction, the predicted results are compared with the experimental data. The detailed discussion has been made for the sensitivity of model constants and the deficiencies of the present model. Numerical results indicated that the acetylene addition to the soot surface plays the dominant role in the soot mass growth for the counterflow nonpremixed flame.
