  • This paper presents a strength safety evaluation of composite pressure container for hydrogen fuel tanks with a storage capacity of 104 liter and 70MPa pressure. The carbon fiber composite container is manufactured by an aluminum liner of Al6061-T6 and composite multi-layers of hoop winding layer in circumferential direction, $12^{\circ}C$ inclined winding layer and $70^{\circ}C$winding layer in helical direction respectively. The FEM results on the strength safety of composite fuel tanks were evaluated with a criterion of design safety of US DOT-CFFC and KS B ISO 11119-2 codes. The FEM computed results indicate that the proposed design model of 104 liter composite container is safe based on two strength safety codes. But, the computed results of carbon fiber fuel tanks based on US DOT-CFFC code is safer compared with that of KS B ISO 11119-2. Thus the hydrogen gas pressure container of 70MPa may be evaluated and designed by US DOT-CFFC code for more strength safety.

  • The earth has been warming due to $CO_2$ gas emissions from fossil fuel cars and a ship. So the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle(FCV) using hydrogen as a fossil fuel alternative energy is in the spotlight. Hyundai Motor Company of Korea and a car companies of the US, Japan, Germany is developing a FCV a competitive. Obtained hydrogen as a by-product of the coke plant, oil refineries, chemical plants of steel mill, coal is reacted with steam at high temperatures, methane gas, manufacture of high purity hydrogen Methane Steam Reforming and hydrogen detachable reforming method using the Pressure Swing Adsorption or Membrane Reforming technical or decomposition of water to produce electricity. Hydrogen is the electronic industry, metal and chemical industries, which are used as rocket fuel, etc. are used in factories, hospitals, home of the fuel Ene.Farm system or FCV. And a method of storing hydrogen is to store liquid hydrogen and a method for compressing normal hydrogen to the hydrogen container, by storing the latest hydride or Organic chemical hydride method is used to carry the hydrogen station. Korea is currently 13 hydrogen stations in place and in operation, plans to install a further 43 places.

  • A nuclear fusion fuel cycle plant is composed of various subsystems such as a hydrogen isotope storage and delivery system, a tokamak exhaust processing system, and a hydrogen isotope separation system. Korea shares in the construction of its ITER fuel cycle plant with the EU, Japan, and the US, and is responsible for the development and supply of the storage and delivery system. The authors thus present details on the development status of hydrogen isotope storage technologies for nuclear fusion fuel cycle plants. We have developed various hydride beds of different size. We have realized a hydrogen delivery rate of 12.5 $Pam^3/s$ with a typical 1242g-ZrCo bed.

  • Within recent years attention has been focused on the method of hydrogen storage using metal hydride reactor due to its high energy density, durability, safety and low operating pressure. In this paper, a numerical study is carried out to investigate the coupled heat and mass transfer process for absorption in a cylindrical metal hydride hydrogen storage reactor using a newly developed model. The simulation results demonstrate the evolution of temperature, equilibrium pressure, H/M atomic ratio and velocity distribution as time goes by. Initially, hydrogen is absorbed earlier from near the wall which sets the cooling boundary condition owing to that absorption process is exothermic reaction. Temperature increases rapidly in entire region at the beginning stage due to the initial low temperature and enough metal surface for hydrogen absorption. As time goes by, temperature decreases slowly from the wall region due to the better heat removal. Equilibrium pressure distribution appears similarly with temperature distribution for reasons of the function of temperature. This work provides a detailed insight into the mechanism and corresponding physicochemical phenomena in the reactor during the hydrogen absorption process.

  • Hydrogen storage alloy powder compacts were prepared by using automatic press, with PTFE as a binder. Hydrogen absorption and desorption characteristics and thermal conducting property of the compacts were studied using test hydrogen cylinder, comparing with bare alloy powder. The compacts showed better rate capability and activation characteristics than bare powder. Effective thermal conductivity and diffusivity of the compact bed were $1.0{\times}10^{-2}W/cmK$ and $2.0{\times}10^{-2}cm^2/S$, respectively, which were similar to that of bare powder bed. A good rate capability of the compacts was interpreted in terms of hydrogen permeation rather than thermal conductivity in the beds.
