  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) research is recently actively underway. Especially, fuel cell battery hybrid systems are widely used to overcome the limitations of continuous operation. However, fuel cell systems must be operated in combination with a battery due to their low specific output characteristics. Therefore, a hybrid power system model for UAVs is developed. The rule-based strategy is applied to the model to properly distribute power to batteries and fuel cells. As a result, the designed rule-based power distribution control operates UAVs while maintaining battery state of charge(SOC) at an appropriate level.

  • Durability of automotive polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) strongly depends the startup/shutdown procedure. Formation of hydrogen/air boundary in the anode gas channel, so-called reverse current condition, particularly induces fast degradation of the cathode. Under the reverse current condition, high voltage is present at the cathode facing air in the anode gas channel and is a function of residual oxygen concentration in the gas channels, that increases with storage time and reaches 21% (air) eventually. In this study, effects of residual oxygen concentration in a PEMFC on degradation of the PEMFC.

  • 고분자전해질 연료전지는 다른 형태의 연료전지에 비하여 전류밀도가 크고 구조가 간단하며 전해질의 누출이나 손실의 염려가 없어 수송용 무공해 차량의 동력원으로서 아주 적합한 시스템이다. 또한 빠른 시동과 응답특성, 우수한 내구성을 가지고 있고 연료로 수소 이외에도 메탄올이나 천연가스를 개질하여 사용할 수 있다는 장점이 있다 [1, 2]. 고분자전해질 연료전지는 원래 우주선, 군사용 등 특수 목적으로 사용되던 것이 1980년대 말에 이르러 도심지 대기오염을 저감시키기 위한 전기 자동차의 동력원 및 이동용 전원으로 사용될 것이 기대됨에 따라 전세계적으로 다시 연구 개발의 활기를 찾게 되었다.(중략)

  • Development of hydrogen station system is an important technology to commercialize fuel cells and fuel cell powered vehicles. Generally, hydrogen station consists of hydrogen production process including desulfurizer, reformer, water gas shift (WGS) reactor and pressure swing adsorption (PSA) apparatus, and post-treatment process including compressor, storage and distributer. In this review, we investigate the R&D trends and prospects of hydrogen station in domestic and foreign countries for opening the hydrogen economy society. Indeed, the reforming of fossil fuels for hydrogen production will be essential technology until the ultimate process that may be water hydrolysis using renewable energy source such as solar energy, wind force etc, will be commercialized in the future. Hence, we also review the research trends on unit technologies such as the desulfurization, reforming reaction of fossil fuels, water gas shift reaction and hydrogen separation for hydrogen station applications.

  • In recent years, it is very important that hydrogen storage system is safe for user in any circumstances in case of crash and fire. Because the hydrogen vehicle usually carry high pressurized cylinders, it is necessary to do safety design for fire. The Global Technical Regulation (GTR) has been enacted for localized and engulfing fire test. High pressure hydrogen storage system of fuel cell electrical vehicles are equipped with Thermal Pressure Relief Device (TPRD) installed in pressured tank cylinder to prevent the explosion of the tank during a fire. TPRDs are safety devices that perceive a fire and release gas in the pressure tank cylinder before it is exploded. In this paper, we observed the localized and engulfing behavior of tank safety, regarding the difference of size and types of the tanks in accordance with GTR.

  • 수소 기반의 에너지 사회는 중소규모 분산 발전과 연료 전지 자동차에서 시작될 거라는 예측이 지배적이다. 가정용 고분자 연료전지 시스템은 상업화에 가장 가까운 소규모 분산 발전 시스템중의 하나이며, 에너지기술연구위원에서는 가정용 고분자 연료전지에 수소를 공급하기 위한 천연가스 수증기 개질시스템의 개발을 진행해 왔다. 효율 향상과 제작의 용이성, 그리고 소형화에 초점을 맞추어 개발된 prototype-I은 $2.0Nm^3/hr$의 순수 수소 생산 용량을 가지고 있으며, 수증기 개질기와 수성가스 전이 반응기 수중기 생성 장치, 그리고 반응열 공급에 필요한 버너 등을 이중 동심원관에 통합한 형태이다. 수중기 개질과 수성가스 전이 반응을 거쳐 나오는 개질 가스의 조성은 $72.3\%\;H_2,\;4.8\%\;CH_4,\;0.7\%\;CO,\;22.2\%\;CO_2$이며, 이때 S/C 비율은 2.5였다. 고분자 연료 전지 공급 시 요구되는 CO 농도가 10ppm 이하이기 때문에, 본 시스템에는 선택적 산화 반응기를 2단으로 설치하여 CO. 농도를 10ppm 이하로 낮추어주었다. 전체 시스템의 열효율은 LHV 기준으로 $68\%$. Prototype-I의 운전을 통해 설계 개선안을 도출하였으며, 이를 적용해 제작한 prototype-II가 시험 운전 중이다,. 통합된 개질 시스템에서는 각 단위 반응기사이의 열교환을 최적화하여 단위 반응들이 적정 온도 범위에서 일어나도록 유도하는 것이 중요하다. Prototype-II는 수증기 개질 반응기와 WGS 반응기, 수증기 생성 장치 사이의 열교환율을 향상시켜 농도를 $2.5\%$로 감소시키면서 CO의 농도는 $1\%$이하로 유지하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 얻어진 메탄 전환율은 $87\%$이고, 열효율은 LHV 기준으로 $75\%$이다. 아울러 개선점을 적용한 선택적 산화 반응기를 제작하였다. 개질 가스와 산소의 혼합을 유도하고, 반응기 온도의 제어를 통해 선택적 산화 반응의 속도와 선택성을 향상시키고자 한다. 시스템의 운전을 통해 메탄 전환율과 열효율의 개선을 진행할 예정이다.

  • Fuel consumption measurement of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is considerably different from internal combustion engine vehicle such as carbon balance method. A practical method of fuel consumption measurement has been developed for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. There are three method of hydrogen fuel consumption testing, gravimetric, PVT (pressure, volume and temperature), and mass flow, all of which necessitate physical measurements of the fuel supply. The purpose of this research is to measure the fuel consumption of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles on chassis-dynamometer and to give information when the research is intended to develop test method to measure hydrogen fuel economy.

  • In the ongoing debates over the need to identify new sources of energy and to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. Hydrogen has emerged as one of the most promising alternatives due to its emissions from the vehicle being virtually zero. The governments have identified the development of regulations and standards as one of the key requirements for commercialization of hydrogen-fueled vehicles. Regulations and standards will helpful in overcoming technological barriers to commercialization. Developments of a technique for safety assessment of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle(HFCV) includes four tasks, research for regulation system and policy, hydrogen safety, vehicle operation safety and protection against high-voltage. The objective is to establish a technique for safety assessment and amend safety standards for HFCV and consequently reflect research results to vehicle management policy. We devised safety standards and evaluation techniques with regard to high-pressure gas and high voltage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Korean Motor Vehicle Safety Standards(KMVSS) for HFCV was amended to June 10, 2014. including the results of the safety assessment technology for high-voltage and hydrogen characteristics.

  • 자동차 구동용 연료전지 스택에 적용된 분리판에 대하여 연료전지 내부의 수분분포 및 농도를 측정할 수 있는 중성자 가시화 기법을 이용하여 구조진단을 실시하여 유로의 분기부 및 180도 회전부의 수분 응축과 같은 국부적인 Flooding 현상과 분리판의 반응면적 전체에 대한 불균일한 수분분포를 확인하였다. 신규 개발 스택에 적용된 분리판은 이러한 구조진단 결과를 바탕으로 변형된 유로 도입을 통한 180도 회전부 제거, 냉각수 입구와 인접한 부분에서 교차하게 되는 수소 출구 부분의 수분응축에 의한 Flooding 현상을 완화하기 위한 냉각수 유로를 적용하여 중성자 가시화 기법을 통하여 동일한 가습조건에서 부하에 따른 분리판 반응면적 전체에 대한 수분분포를 조사하였다.

A Study on Temperature Characteristics of Automatic Valve for High Pressure Cylinder of FCV (수소연료전지 자동차 압력 용기용 전자밸브의 온도 특성에 관한 연구)

  • FCV is installed with a automatic valve attached in an high pressure cylinder to control the hydrogen flow. The supply of hydrogen from the cylinder into the fuel cell stack is controlled via the on/off operation of a solenoid attached to the automatic valve. The solenoid needs to provide the necessary attraction force even at any saturation temperature caused by drive of the vehicle. In this study, the simplified prediction equations for the saturation temperature are suggested. The finite element analysis was performed by steady state technique, according to the boundary condition in order to predict the saturation temperature and attraction force. Finally, the saturation temperature was validated through comparison between the analysis results and measurement results. From the results, the measured saturation temperature $5.9^{\circ}C$ lower with respect to the analysis results. And the error of attraction force ranged from 1.0 to 2.1 N at testing conditions.
