Characterization of PEMFC Electrode Structures by Complex Capacitance Analysis of EIS (임피던스 복소캐패시턴스법에 의한 PEMFC 전극 구조 분석)

  • PEMFC의 전기화학적 반응은 촉매, 이오노머, 기공이 만나는 삼상계면에서만 일어나므로, 전극 구조의 최적화가 성능 향상 및 장기안정성 확보에 있어 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 전극 미세구조를 실시간으로 분석하기 위해 임피던스 복소캐패시턴스법을 도입하고자 하였다. 즉, PEMFC의 양극에 질소를 공급하면 0.4 V 부근에서 전기이중층 형성 반응만이 일어나는 것을 확인하였으며, 이때 음극에는 수소를 공급하여 기준전극 및 반대전극으로 사용하였다. 측정된 임피던스를 복소캐패시턴스로 변환하고 허수부를 주파수에 대해 도시하면 피크 형태의 곡선이 얻어지는데, (1) 피크 면적은 전극/전해질의 계면면적, (2) 피크 위치는 이오노머 네트워크에 의한 수소이온 전도 특성, (3) 피크 폭은 다공성 구조의 균일도를 각각 나타내므로, 피팅 없이 직접적인 해석이 가능하다는 장점을 가진다. 반면, 기존의 Nyquist 도시법은 피팅에 의한 분석이 필요하며, 전극층의 불균일한 구조로 인해 단순한 등가회로 구성이 어려운 문제점을 가진다. 최종적으로, MEA 제작 조건 및 운전 조건을 변수로 하여 임피던스를 측정하고 복소캐패시턴스 분석을 수행하여, 퇴화 경로를 규명하고 운전 조건을 최적화하고자 하였다.

  • 전 세계적으로 대표적인 대중교통으로 천연가스버스가 운행 중에 있으며, 천연가스의 저장을 위하여 대부분의 차량이 복합용기를 사용하고 있다. 또한 친환경자동차로 개발되고 있는 수소연료전지자동차도 수소 저장용으로 복합용기를 적용하여 상용화를 추진 중에 있다. 복합용기의 상용화가 증가하면서 복합용기의 안전성 확보가 가장 중요한 이슈가 되고 있다. 기체상태의 고압가스를 교통수단에 적용하기 위하여, 저장매체인 고압복합용기의 안전성 및 기술 확보를 위한 기술개발과 안전기준의 확립을 위한 기준개발이 미국, 유럽, 일본 등 다수의 국가에서 진행되고 있다. 현재 복합용기의 안전성을 확인하는 기준은 각 나라의 기준에 따라 진행되고 있으며 천연가스자동차용 저장용기 국제표준으로는 ISO 11439가 적용되고 있다. 수소연료전지자동차용 수소용기의 안전기준은 아직 확립되지 않은 상태이며, 개발된 초안으로는 국제규정으로 UN ECE R No.79 및 국제기술표준으로 ISO/TS 15869가 있다. 개발 중인 국제기준 및 국내기준에서 가장 취약한 부분이 화염시험이다. 화염시험은 자동차에 화재가 발생했을 경우 용기의 폭발을 막기 위하여 안전밸브가 정상적으로 작동하는 지를 확인하는 시험이다. 하지만 현재의 시험방법으로는 자동차에서 발생하는 국부적인 화염에 대한 안전성을 확인하기가 어려운 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내의 화염시험기준을 개발하기 위해 수행된 화염시험에 대한 결과와 화염시험장치를 제안하고자 한다.

  • As abnormal climatic event occur frequently due to global warming, many nations have proclaimed their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality and are actively pursuing a transition toward a hydrogen economy. At this time, ammonia has garnered significant attention not only as a high-capacity hydrogen carrier but also as a promising candidate as a carbon-free fuel. In particular, anion exchange membrane fuel cells offer the advantage of directly supplying ammonia to the fuel cell, eliminating the necessity for separate ammonia decomposition or hydrogen purification. Therefore, in this study, the operation principle and research trend of the anion exchange membrane fuel cell are reviewed, and several research using ammonia as a fuel in anion exchange membrane fuel cell are also investigated.

  • Nowdays, fossil fuels have been used as an important resource in development of industry. But it is limited and caused climate change such as pollution and global warming. So nuclear fusion research is being issued with tritium to develop eco-friendly and sustainable energy. Republic of Korea is in charge of Storage and Delivery System (SDS) in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), weld present in the SDS bottles are easily exposed to the hydrogen embrittlement of special characteristics of the hydrogen in hydrogen atmosphere, When the hydrogen embrittlement is rapidly progresses, the cracking is generated in the weld zone. Due to this cracking, the risk of leakage of tritium into the atmosphere occurs. In this study, hydrogen heat treatment was processed through the Pressure-Composition-Temperature (PCT) device according to the time variation. Also mechanical properties such as rupture strength test, three point bend test and hardness test in accordance with the respective time have been conducted and the fracture was observed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) after the mechanical properties evaluation.

  • Tritium was attracted with high energy source in neutron fusion energy systems. A number of research was performed in tritium storage materials. The Korea was raised storage and delivery systems (SDS) of international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) research. However, bottles of SDS would be important because of stability. The bottles have a welding zone, this zone will be vulnerable to hydrogen embrittlement. This zone have a high thermodynamic energy and heat deterioration. Therefore bottles were studied about hydrogen embrittlement to retain stability. The heat treatment of hydrogen was carried under pressure-composition-temperature (PCT) apparatus because of checking at real time. And then, mechanical properties were evaluated by tensile test and hardness test. In results of this study, hydrogen atmosphere condition is very important by tensile test and kinetics test. The samples were evaluated, that is more weak hydrogen pressure, increasing temperature and time. This results could be useful in SDS bottle designs.

  • Fuel cell is one of the promising electrochemical technologies enabling power production with various fuel sources such as hydrogen, hydrocarbon and even solid carbon. However, its long-term performance is often unstable and unpredictable. In this work, we observed that gasification-driven hydrocarbons were the culprit of unpredictability. Therefore, we controlled the presence of hydrocarbons with the help of external gas supply, i.e. argon and carbon dioxide, and suggested the optimal amount of carbon dioxide required for predictable fuel cell operations. Our optimization strategy was based upon the following observations; carbon dioxide can work as both an inert gas and a fuel precursor, depending on its amount present in the reactor. When deficient, the carbon dioxide cannot fully promote the reverse Boudouard reaction that produces carbon monoxide fuel. When overly present, the carbon dioxide works as an inert gas that causes fuel loss. In addition, the excessive carbon monoxide may result in coking on the catalyst surface, leading to the decrease in the power performance.

  • Poly-${\beta}$-hydroxybutyrates(PHB) are well known intracellular biopolymer which are completely degraded to carbon dioxide and water in the landfill. The pressurized fermentation method was used to increase the cell growth of Alcaligenes eutrophus and productivity of PHB. The experimental data were analyzed in terms of carbon source and gas composition effects at various elevated pressures and temperatures. The results reveal that the flow rate of hydrogen gas of 0.0075vvm for the culture is better PHB production than the no hydrogen flow when fructose was used as a sole carbon source. The higher yields and productivities of PHB biosynthesized by A. eutrophus were obtained when the oxygen composition was changed from 2% to 8% at 6atm and $30^{\circ}C$.

  • The sequence of the propellant supply is very important for the reliable and safe operation of a LRE combustion test. So combustion performance tests were performed to find an optimum test sequence by changing supply time of propellants and purge gas in the moment of ignition and extinction. The liquid rocket engine consisted of a catalytic ignitor and six swirl-coaxial injectors which used hydrogen peroxide and kerosene. Conclusively, an optimum sequence was found for stable combustion in the moment of ignition and extinction.

  • Hydrogen energy, a field of low-carbon substitute energy, can be produced by fossile fuel reforming and electrolysis of water etc. We developed 1kW class flat type reformer for PEM Fuel Cells. The PEMFC is highly sensitive to carbon monoxide because CO has detrimental effects on the performance of the fuel cell. Thus, reformed gas supplied to Fuel cell system, which maintained CO concentration below 10ppm. After applying optimum drive condition, reformed gas was measured with gas chromatography and could find out about each experimental condition of $H_2$ and CO concentration. As a results, The 1kW class plate type hydrogen generation system's optimum condition is A/F ratio ${\alpha}=1.3$, STR temperature 1023K, S/C ratio 3, and $PrOx1{\cdot}2$ 30cc/min. It turns out that installation of PrOx 2 stage is more efficient for reducing CO concentration.

A Study on the Improvement of Selection Method of Safety Distance for Worker in Hydrogen Refueling Station (수소 충전 시설 내 근로자를 위한 안전거리 선정 방법 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, the world's countries are tightening regulations on CO2 and air pollutants emission to solve them. In addition, eco friendly vehicles is increasing to replace automobiles in internal combustion engine. The government is supporting the expansion of hydrogen refueling infrastructure according to the hydrogen economy road map. In particular, refueling station is important to secure the safety that supplies high-pressure hydrogen with a wide LFL range. This paper is on guidelines for the determination safety distances to ensure worker safety from accident as jet fire. The safety distance is set according to the procedure of the EIGA doc 075/21. For accident frequency is upper 3.5E-05 per annum, safety distance is decided via consequence analysis where the risk of harm is below individual harm exposure threshold.
