Preparation of Castable Refractories by Recycling of Aluminum Dross (알루미늄드로스를 재활용한 캐스타블내화물 제조)

  • Recycling of aluminum dross is an important issue in the secondary aluminum industries. In this study, aluminum dross generated in the domestic secondary aluminum industry was processed to use it as raw material for producing alumina refractories. Sample dross was classified according to its size. The dross smaller than 1 mm was leached with sodium hydroxide solution to extract the remained aluminum from the dross into the solution. and then aluminum hydroxide precipitate was recovered from the leach liquor. The waste residue in the leaching was washed, dried and roasted. Most remained metallic components in the residue was changed into oxide through the processes. The roasted dross was made into alumina castable refractories by mixing with aggregates and a binder. Bending strength of the tested castable specimen was over $25\;kg/\textrm{m}^2$ and compressive strength over $80\;kg/\textrm{cm}^2$, which satisfied the Korean Standard value respectively. From the results, it was suggested that this process could be applicable to recycling of aluminum dross.

  • Objective of the research is to deteonine the praeLic따 running parameters for neutralization and removal of heavy metals from plating wastewater with waste-oyster shells by the Bohart$.$Adams equation. Waste-oyster shells discharged from the d domestic oyster cultnring fields cause a serious ocean environmental pollution. However, it is expected that those are able to b be recycled for removal of heavy metals through neutralization of plating wastewater because the shells contain approximate 93% $CaCO_3$, and have multi-pore voids. By applying the results of the continuous experiments to Bohart-Adams equation, s service time decreases in the order of Cr>Fe>Cu while removal efficiencies of metals become less in the order of Fe>Cr>Cu.

  • The process for recovery of acids and valuable metals such as nickel and chromium from the stainless-steel pickling acids has been developed vased on the use of solvent extraction technique. Until now, several processes for the treatment of waste acids were already developed in such countries as Japan, Swden and Canada. Those methods are, however, forcussed on the recovery of acids from them discarding the metals included in them as the hydroxides sludge. In the present work, the recovery of nickel and chromium in addition to nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid has been aimed so as to recycle them to the stainless-steel pickling lines and also to minimize the amount of sludge generated during the treatment of waste acids. The establishment of the process to recover the acids has been carried out based on the solvent extraction with TBP. The iron was eliminated from the waste solutions by precipitating in the form of hydroxide through the adjustment of pH with calcined limestone and the selective extration of chromium and nickel from the resultant solutions has been conducted by using D2EHPA as extractant.

  • A basic study on the recovery of heavy metals such as Zn, Ni, Cu and Fe ions from wastewater was carried out with the spent iron oxide catalyst, which was used in the Styrene Monomer(SM) production company. The heavy metals could be recovered more than 98% with the spent iron oxide catalyst. The alkaline components of the spent catalyst could be precipitated the metal ions of the wastewater as metal hydroxides at the higher pH 10.6 in Ni, pH 8.0 in Cu, pH 6.5 in Fe, pH 8.5 in Zn. But the metal ions are adsorbed physically on the surface of the spent catalyst in the range of the pH of the metal hydroxides and pH 3.0, which is the isoelectric point of the iron oxide catalyst.

A study on the recovery of chromium from metal-plating wastewater with spent catalyst (폐산화철촉매에 의한 도금폐수중 크롬이온 회수에 관한 기초연구)

  • A large tons of spent iron oxide catalyst come from the Styrene Monomer(SM) production company. It is caused to pollute the land and underground water due to the high alkali contents in the catalyst by burying them in the landfill. In order to recycle the spent catalyst, a basic study on the recovery of chromium ion from metal plating wastewater with the spent catalyst was carried out. The iron oxide catalyst adsorbed physically $Cr^{+6}$ in the lower pH 3.0, that is the isoelectric point of the spent catalyst. It was found that the iron oxide catalyst reduced the $Cr^{+6}$ into Cr+3 by the oxidation of ferrous ion into ferric ion on the surface of catalyst, and precipitated as $Cr(OH)_3$ in the higher than pH 3.0. The $Cr^{+6}$ was recovered 2.0∼2.3g/L catalyst in the range of pH 0.5∼2.0, but it was recovered 1.5 g/L catalyst at pH 3.0 of wastewater. The recovery of Cr was increased as the higher concentration in the continuous process, but the flowrates were nearly affected on the Cr recovery.

  • Richardia brasiliensis Gomes was found in agricultural land in Susan-ri, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do. Richardia L. is closely related to Diodia L. in Korea, those are confirmed to features of calyx, collora and fruit. This species is similar to R. scabra L., but it differs morphologically from the letter in surface structure of mericarp. The mericarp of R. brasiliensis has line like kneel at the adaxial, whereas R. scabra has groove at the adaxial. R. brasiliensis is recorded for the first time in this study and a morphological description, distribution map, and photographs are presented.

Effects of Seed Preservation Periods and Soil Composition on the Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Halophyte Suaeda japonica (염생식물 칠면초(Suaeda japonica)의 종자발아와 유묘생장에 종자 보관기간과 토양구성이 미치는 영향 )

  • Seed germination and seedling growth of a halophyte, Suaeda japonica were examined to measure the effects of seed preservation periods and various soil compositions in the mudflat of Saemangeum, Korea. Seed germination declined from 74.30% to 44.30% as the preservation period increased from 4 months to 12 months. After 14 days of seeding, seed germination was lowest in sandy soil (SS) at 8.67% and highest in earthworm cast+leaf mold (EC+LM) at 67.33%, showing 4~5 times higher than SS. The average lengths of seedlings were 12.20 mm in SS and 42.20 mm in EC+LM, respectively. These results suggest that seed germination and seedling growth enhanced in the soil that has more organic matter. In the experiment mixing Saemangeum soil (SMS), seed germination was from 4.00% in SMS to 88.00% in the soil of SMS+EC+LM after 14 days. Similar growth patterns were observed in the length of seedlings from 5.00 mm in SMS to 49.60 mm in SMS+EC+LM. The present results indicate that a population of Suaeda japonica could be established by stimulating seed germination and seedling growth by the addition of organic matters such as EC, LM, and EC+LM in the Saemangeum mud flat.

  • In this study, DEIPA was used for enhancing cementitious performance of bottom ash replaced cement. By applying the partial or no-known crystal structure method to X-ray diffraction data, the amounts of amorphous bottom ash and calcium silicate hydrate(C-S-H) could be separated and quantified. In the sample without DEIPA, the bottom ash hardly reacted, resulting in low compressive strength. However, the addition of DEIPA not only altered the hydration behavior of the cement but also enhanced the pozzolanic reaction between bottom ash and calcium hydroxide, leading to the generation of additional C-S-H. This resulted in high compressive strength not only in the early stages but also in the later stages. Therefore, with the addition of DEIPA during the pulverization of the bottom ash, the reactivity of the bottom ash was significantly improved. Hence, there is potential in the development of bottom ash replacement cement.

Hydrographic Observations around Korean Peninsula: Past, Present and Future (한반도 주변의 해양관측:과거, 현재, 미래)

  • 한반도 주변의 정규적인 해양관측 효시는 1910년대로부터 시작된다. 1915년 6월부 터 원산, 부산 등 12개 항구의 중앙부에서 10일 간격으로 해양관측이 시작되었으며, 1916년 7월부터는 거문도 해야 어청도 등 10개 등대관측소에서 연안정지관측을 역일로 시작했고, 1917년 5월부터 정선해양관측이 이루어 졌는데 이들은 총독부 수산과에서 수산시험조사사업의 일환으로 수행되었고 1921년부터 총독부수산 시험장에서 이들을 더욱 발전다. 1930년대에는 정선해양관측이 매월 초순 각 도별로 수항되어 가장 훌륭 한 관측결과가 생산되었다. 1961년부터는 항구관측을 폐지하고 연안정지관측과 정선해 양관측만 이루어 지고 있으며 해양조사선을 20여개로 수정하여 2개월마다 조사에 임하 고 있다. 이들은 기본적으로 해양생물자원의 경제적 획득에 목적을 두고 있으나 자료 를 널리 공개하여 전세계의 어느 해양연구자들도 이용할 수 있도록 하고 있다. 1960년 부터는 우리 나라 연안의 조석관측도 연속적으로 수행되고 있다. 1990년 현재 21개 정 선해양관측자료와 42개의 연안정지관측자료, 매일의 표면수온분포도 21개의 평균해면 자료가 공개적으로 이용가능하다. 앞으로 유명한 연구소일수록 해양관측자료를 공개하 여 공동이용할 수 있어야 하며 해양관측의 활성화를 위해 첫째 해양관측기구를 소모품 으로 취급할 것이 요구되고, 둘째 관측선 요원의 정당한 처우가 이루어져야 하며, 셋 째 세계적인 해양조사 사업은 국가기관에서 더욱 성실히 수행될 수 있도록 여건을 조 성할 필요가 있다. 과거에는 어업활동을 위해 해양조사가 현재에는 기후변동연구에 중 요한 자료로도 이용되고 있으므로 우리는 우리주변의 해양관측을 미래학문의 기초자료 로 끊임없이 수행해야 할 중차대한 임무를 지니고 있다.는 대체로 Weddell Sea쪽에서 남동쪽으로 가면서 증가하며, 영 양염 농도가 낮은 얼음 녹은 물의 유입이 얼룩소 a의 농도를 감소시키는 것으로 사료 된다.되어, 경기만에서 출현하는 식물플랑크톤이 서해 중동부 연안수역에서 출현하는 식물 플랑크톤보다 상대적으로 낮은 광에 적응되어 있었다. the most important in the global optimum analysis because small variation of it results in the large change of the objective function, the sum of squares of deviations of the observed and computed groundwater levels. 본 논문에서는 가파른 산사면에서 산사태의 발생을 예측하기 위한 수문학적 인 지하수 흐름 모델을 개발하였다. 이 모델은 물리적인 개념에 기본하였으며, Lumped-parameter를 이용하였다. 개발된 지하수 흐름 모델은 두 모델을 조합하여 구성되어 있으며, 비포화대 흐름을 위해서는 수정된 abcd 모델을, 포화대 흐름에 대해서는 시간 지체 효과를 고려할 수 있는 선형 저수지 모델을 이용하였다. 지하수 흐름 모델은 토층의 두께, 산사면의 경사각, 포화투수계수, 잠재 증발산 량과 같은 불확실한 상수들과 a, b, c, 그리고 K와 같은 자유모델변수들을 가진다. 자유모델변수들은 유입-유출 자료들로부터 평가할 수 있으며, 이를 위해서 본 논문에서는 Gauss-Newton 방법을 이용한 Bard 알고리즘을 사용하였다. 서울 구로구 시흥동 산사태 발생 지역의 산사면에 대하여 개발된 모델을 적용하여 예제 해석을 수행함으로써, 지하수 흐름 모델이 산사태 발생 예측을 위하여 이용할 수 있음을 입증하였다.

A Study on Sand Cementation and its Early-Strength Using Blast Furnace Slag and Alkaline Activators (고로슬래그와 알칼리 활성화제를 이용한 모래 고결 및 조기강도에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, a blast furnace slag with latent hydraulic property is used to cement granular soils without using Portland cement. When the blast furnace slag reacts with an alkaline activator, it can cement soils. The effect of amounts of blast furnace slag and types of alkaline activator on soil strength was investigated for resource recycling. Four different amounts of slag and six different activators (two naturals and four chemicals) were used for preparing specimens. The specimens were air-cured for 3 or 7 days and then tested for unconfined compressive strength (UCS). The UCS of cemented sand with slag increased, in the order of specimens mixed with potassium carbonate, calcium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. Chemical alkaline activator was better than natural alkaline activator. The maximum UCS of 3-days cured specimens was 3 MPa for 16% of slag with potassium hydroxide, which corresponded to 37% of one with 16% of high-early strength portland cement. As the amount of slag increased, the UCS and dry density of a specimen increased for all alkaline activator cases. As the curing time increased from 3 days to 7 days, the UCS increased up to 97%. C-S-H hydrates were found in the cemented specimens from XRD analyses. Cement hydrates were more generated with increasing amount of slag and they surrounded sand particles, which resulted in higher density.
