As the usage of mobile stations increases thanks to various services, power saving mechanisms of mobile station operated by battery power have been gained much attention. This paper presents a power saving mechanism(PSM) of IEEE 802.16m, called Mobile WiMAX, for 4G mobile technology. This paper first presents different points of the PSM of IEEE 802.16m from IEEE 802.16e, which is a basis of IEEE 802.16m. This paper proposes a dynamic sleep cycle adjustment algorithm for improving the performance of IEEE 802.16m PSM by considering the arrival pattern of incoming packets from base station. Performance of the algorithm is analyzed in terms of energy consumption as well as waiting time of packets.

An infant's sleep varies considerably from that of adults in terms of structure, amount, and breathing pattern. After birth, sleep becomes evenly distributed throughout the day and night. Nighttime sleep gradually increases with the maturation of circadian rhythm, and sleep is gradually consolidated. Electroencephalography characteristics change with age, from early and dominant active (REM) sleep in newborns to increasing NREM sleep. Similar to other elements of growth, the upper respiratory tract and ribcage gradually increase in size with age, and respiratory control also improves. With these changes, sleep patterns also change. At this time that various sleep disorders may appear. Improved understanding of age-dependent changes in infant sleep can help determine the etiology and facilitate diagnosis of infant sleep diseases.
The purpose of this experiment was to examine influence of acute exercise on nocturnal sleep which had been disrupted by caffeine(400mg$\times$3) thought the daytime. Six healthy young males aged 21.0$\times$0.2 yr with a history of low caffeine use. Subjects completed three conditions in a within-subject. At three conditions Sleep EEG were investigated: (1) nocturnal following quiet rest, (2) nocturnal sleep following the consumption of 1200mg of caffeine (3) nocturnal sleep following cycling at 60 min of 60% V $O_{2peak}$ with 1200mg of caffeine consumption. Sleep data were calculated for REM sleep, REM latency, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, sleep stages, SWS. Those data were analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA of change scores. A main effect to, drug(caffeine) indicated that caffeine elicited sleep disturbance that is, TST and sleep onset latency increase and sleep efficiency and stage 4 decrease. The effects of exercise on sleep following caffeine intake generally improve sleep that is, stage 2, 3 and SWS increase and sleep onset latency decrease. A condition effect for sleep indicated sleep improvement after exercise Therefore The data supported a restorative theory of slow-wave sleep and suggest that acute exercise may be useful in promoting sleep and reducing sleep disturbance elevated by a high dose of caffeine.

Battery-operated IoT devices in IoT systems require low power consumption. In general, IoT devices enter a sleep state synchronously to reduce power consumption. A problem arises when an IoT device has to handle asynchronous user requests, as the duty cycle must be reduced to enhance response time. In this paper, we propose a new low-power-consumption scheme, called Repetitive Wake-up scheme for IoT systems of asynchronous environments such as indoor lights control. The proposed scheme can reduce power consumption by sending wake-up signals from the smartphone repetitively and by retaining the IoT device in sleep state to the smallest possible duty cycle. In the various environments with IoT devices at home or office space, we showed that the proposed scheme can reduce power consumption by up to five times compared to the existing synchronous interlocking technique.

We applied a displacement current measurement technique for the study of L-${\alpha}$-dilauryl phosphatidylcholine (DLPC) monolayer. Displacement current was generated at the DLPC monolayer on the water surface, while induced by compression and expansion of the monolayer. Generation of Maxwell displacement current (MDC) was observed when surface areas per DLPC molecule were approximately $200{\AA}^2$ and $40{\AA}^2$. We investigated MDC for monolayer compression cycles, and found that MDC reached the maximum at the molecular area, which was measured right before surface pressure began to increase during compression cycles. The monolayer surface morphology of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films was characterized using atomic force microscope (AFM). As a result, we measured the result from the microscopic properties shown in the AFM images of LB films that molecules in the monolayer were in good orientations and the thickness of the monolayer ranged from 5 to 10 nm.

For the sensor node or collection node operating with a battery in a wireless sensor network, MAC protocols with improved energy efficiency are important performance factors. In this paper, in order to improve the restrictive capability in accordance with the fixed activity period of the duty cycle technology in the MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks, we propose a periodic adaptive wakeup technique based on receive prediction. The proposed technique is through a performance evaluation using the CC2500 RF transceiver and C8051F330 microcontroller based wireless node, to analyze the minimum active period. As a result, it was confirmed that it is possible to improve energy efficiency by adaptively changing the sleep period in accordance with the change of period.

In wireless sensor networks, each node generally uses a battery because it is hard to replace or charge. For this reason, study for life time prolongation of each node within the limited energy source has become an important issue. So many ways are suggested to minimize the energy consumption for each node, especially energy efficient MAC protocols have been studied actively. T-MAC of contention based MAC protocol is that added the adaptability on fixed duty cycle of S-MAC. T-MAC allocates the fixed timeout before each node goes to sleep mode from active mode. If no data exchanged in a timeout, each node goes to sleep mode. Because of the timeout is always fixed, the absence of data exchange in a timeout will cause unnecessary energy consumption. In this paper, in order to improve the energy efficiency, we propose a MAC protocol based on adaptive timeout that analyze the probability of the timeout, and provides the modified timeout.

In this paper, we deal with suggestion of energy efficient MAC protocol. The scheme(I-MAC) makes the active duty-cycle duration based on by utilizing data frequency. Data frequency is made by checking a check bit of Link layer. By being studies on NS-2 simulation environments, the proposed scheme was proved to be improved in terms of energy efficiency of 50 % and to be similar to throughput of S-MAC on every time interval.
