  • The objective of this study is to examine the loss of prestressing stress in the developed prestressing reinforcing units using steel bar and pipe (SP). The main parameters were the reinforcing bar type, the magnitude of prestressed force, and prestressing method. The test results showed that the loss of prestressing stress for SP was highest in the initial prestressing step, which was higher for the compression introduction typed specimens than tension introduction typed specimens. The loss of prestressing stress of SP made with P800 was 1.6% for the compression introduction typed specimen with 0.8fy, which was lowest than the other specimens. Meanwhile, the relaxation of SP with the respect to the time ranged between 0.4 and 1.9%, irrespective of SP material type, the magnitude of prestressed force, and prestressing method. These values were less than 2.5%, which is the maximum value for the relaxation of prestressed reinforcing steel bars in design codes. Consequently, considering the loss of stress developed in the initial prestressing step, the developed SP material type, prestressing introduction method, and magnitude are recommended to be P800, compression introduction type, and 0.8fy.

  • In this paper, we proposed a HVS(human visual system) model-based digital image watermarking which is not only invariant to rotation and translation but also more robust to lossy compression, cropping, and scaling as compared to the conventional method. Fourier transform and log-polar mapping is used to make the proposed algorithm invariant to rotation and translation, and in addition, watermark energy is embedded maximally based on spatial frequency sensitivity of HVS without the deterioration of the invisibility. As a result, the robustness of watermarking is improved both in general image processing operations such as cropping, low pass filtering, and lossy compression and in geometrical transforms such as rotation, translation, and scaling. And, by disjoint embedding of the watermark and the template without intersection, the deterioration of invisibility and robustness is prevented. Experimental results show that proposed watermarking is about 30~75 [%] more robust af compared to the conventional methods.

  • In order to easily create video tutorials, the algorithm is needed that video camera recording, white board images, video attachments, and document data are combined in real-time. In this study, we implemented the video lecture content creation system using wavelet-based lossless compression to composite multimedia objects in real-time and reproduce the images. Using commercially available PC can be useful when lecturers want to make video institutional contents, it can be operated easily and fastly. Therefore, it can be very efficient system for e-Learning and m-Learning. In addition, the proposed system including multimedia synthesis technology and real-time lossless compression technology can be applied to various fields, different kinds of multimedia creation, remote conferencing, and e-commerce so there are highly significant.

  • Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) has been planted as one of the key infrastructures with an overall improvement in standards of medical informationization and the stream of digital hospitalization in recent days. The kind and data of digital medical imagery are also increasing rapidly in volume. This trend emphasizes the medical image compression for storing large-scale medical image data. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM), de facto standard in digital medical imagery, specifies Run Length Encode (RLE), which is the typical lossless data compressing technique, for the medical image compression. However, the RLE is not appropriate approach for medical image data with bilateral symmetry of the human organism. we suggest two preprocessing algorithms that detect interested area, the minimum bounding rectangle, in a medical image to enhance data compression efficiency and that re-code image pixel values to reduce data size according to the symmetry characteristics in the interested area, and also presents an improved image compression technique for brain CT imagery with high bilateral symmetry. As the result of experiment, the suggested approach shows higher data compression ratio than the RLE compression in the DICOM standard without detecting interested area in images.

  • In this paper, we propose the lossless coding: scheme for progressive transmission of medical images. The input image is decomposed by the proposed fast adaptive subband decomposition method which is suited for a lossless coding. The decomposed images are coded by an arithmetic coder with two conditioning pixels, and the conditioning pixels are selected differently according to the property of the subbands. The conditioning contexts are usually quantized to reduce the conditional state, and the optimization method of quantization is proposed For the purpose of improving compression ratio in this paper. The proposed lossless coding scheme provides the asymmetric structure of cosec and results in better compression ability than the JPEC lossless coding[ 1 ].

  • Since the resolutions of videos increase rapidly, there are continuing needs for effective video compression methods despite an increase in the transmission bandwidth. In order to satisfy such a demand, a reconstructive video coding (RVC) method by using a super resolution has been proposed. Since RVC reduces the resolution of the input video, when frames are compressed to the same size, the number of bits per pixel increases, thereby reducing coding artifacts caused by video coding. However, RVC method using super resolution is not effective in all target bitrates. Comparing the size of the loss generated while downsizing the resolution and the size of the loss caused by the video compression, only when the size of loss generated in the video compression is larger, RVC method can perform the improved compression performance compared to direct video coding. In particular, since HEVC has considerably higher compression performance than the previous standard video codec, it can be experimentally confirmed that the compression distortions become larger than the distortions of downsizing the resolution only in the very low-bitrate conditions. In this paper, we applied RVC based HEVC in various video types and measured the target bitrates that RVC method can be effectively applied.

  • Multiple layer displacement mapping methods are able to represent more complex and general geometries which cannot be presented by single layer displacement mapping methods, and provide a realistic scene to digital contents such as 3D games and movies with relatively low costs. However, as we use more layers for details, data space is wasted more because lower layers have less displacement data than higher layers. In this paper, we suggest a lossless compression and rendering method of a multiple layer displacement map. Since we compress the map without data loss, the proposed method provides the same quality as the rendering result that uses an original multiple layer displacement map.

  • This Paper presents 3-D subband filter banks which are effective for progressive and lossless compression of volumetric images. For such a purpose, ORT(Overlapping Rounding Transform), applied so far to 1-D losslesssubband filter banks, is now used to implement two types of 3-D lossless subband filter banks: separable andnon-separable types. Separable fiter banks are implemented form applying 1-D lossless filter banks consecutively.Non-separable later banks are developed by expanding the 1-D ORT into 3-D one. In particular, the proposed ORT based 3-D non-separable filter banks generalizes the 3-D HINT(Hierarchical INTerpolation) algorithm.Through the experiment comparisons on various volumetric medical images, we prove that the proposedseparablefnon-separable filter banks perform better, in terms of compression ratio (first order entropy), than theother lossless compression techniques such as block based transform and conventional 3-D HINT.
