An Analysis of Cases of Emulation for Long Term Electronic Records Preservation Strategy (전자기록 장기보존 전략으로서의 에뮬레이션 사례 분석)

  • In response to the current electronic record environment, storing electronic records for necessary long terms have been the topic of the times. Especially, the method to preserving original form such as original functional property and bit stream becomes the key to long term preservation of electronic records. Until now in Korea migration methods were chosen as long term preservation strategy for public records, but the limitations were that the functionality and the original bit stream could not be maintained. Among the strategies for long term preservation of electronic records, emulation has significant strengths in that it can replicate the original form of electronic records without changes in the bit stream, and that unlike migration it can establish a single preservation strategy without needing to apply individual strategies according to type of electronic record. Especially because it can replicate the functional components that cannot be implemented in the current long term preservation format, there is a need to study the application method based on the studies of electronic record types currently used by public institutions. This study, to explore the methods for applying emulation as a strategy for the long term preservation of electronic records, reviews the latest study cases from the west about emulation as base study, and tries to analyze the specific cases about the feasibility, target, and methods of emulation. Through this the study tries to explore the implications for domestic application as well as the strengths and weaknesses of emulation. To do this, the study analyses the concept, strengths and weaknesses of emulation as a long term preservation strategy, the analyses the latest best cases of emulation in the west; CAMiLEON, KB, Planets, and KEEP project. Based on these analysis this study tries to suggest implications and application methods for electronic records in the future in Korea.

Predicting Suitable Restoration Areas for Warm-Temperate Evergreen Broad-Leaved Forests of the Islands of Jeollanamdo (전라남도 섬 지역의 난온대 상록활엽수림 복원을 위한 적합지 예측)

  • Poor supervision and tourism activities have resulted in forest degradation in islands in Korea. Since the southern coastal region of the Korean peninsula was originally dominated by warm-temperate evergreen broad-leaved forests, it is desirable to restore forests in this region to their original vegetation. In this study, we identified suitable areas to be restored as evergreen broad-leaved forests by analyzing the environmental factors of existing evergreen broad-leaved forests in the islands of Jeollanam-do. We classified forest lands in the study area into six vegetation types from Sentinel-2 satellite images using a deep learning algorithm and analyzed the tolerance ranges of existing evergreen broad-leaved forests by measuring the locational, topographic, and climatic attributes of the classified vegetation types. Results showed that evergreen broad-leaved forests were distributed more in areas with a high altitudes and steep slope, where human intervention was relatively low. The human intervention has led to a higher distribution of evergreen broad-leaved forests in areas with lower annual average temperature, which was an unexpected but understandable result because an area with higher altitude has a lower temperature. Of the environmental factors, latitude and average temperature in the coldest month (January) were relatively less contaminated by the effects of human intervention, thus enabling the identification of suitable restoration areas of the evergreen broad-leaved forests. The tolerance range analysis of evergreen broad-leaved forests showed that they mainly grew in areas south of the latitude of 34.7° and a monthly average temperature of 1.7℃ or higher in the coldest month. Therefore, we predicted the areas meeting these criteria to be suitable for restoring evergreen broad-leaved forests. The suitable areas cover 614.5 km2, which occupies 59.0% of the total forest lands on the islands of Jeollanamdo, and 73% of actual forests that exclude agricultural and other non-restorable forest lands. The findings of this study can help forest managers prepare a restoration plan and budget for island forests.

Development and Validation of the Korean Implementation Fidelity Checklist of Tier 1 School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (KIFC-T1) (한국형 학교차원 긍정적 행동지원 1차 실행충실도 척도(KIFC-T1)의 개발과 타당화)

  • The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean Implementation Fidelity Checklist of Tier 1 School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (KIFC-T1) for use in the Korean educational system. Tier 1 support, which is universal supports, within a multi-tiered, school-wide positive behavior support (SWPBS) model, aims to provide support to and prevent problem behaviors among all students in a school. The initial KIFC-T1 consisted of 48 items and 11 factors and was developed based on a literature review. Its content was validated by experts. The validated KIFC-T1 was introduced to 185 special school teachers who had experience implementing SWPBS and who used the instrument to assess the degree to which their schools had implemented Tier 1 support. Based on their responses, the construct validity of the KIFC-T1 was examined using factor, item, and internal consistency reliability analyses. The concurrent validity of the tool was examined using the PBS Evaluation Tool, School Climate Questionnaire, School Discipline Practice Scale, and PBS Effectiveness Scale. The analyses revealed that KIFC-T1 had a stable five-factor structure with 35 items, had good reliability (Cronbach's α=.956, each factor's Cronbach's α=.834-.951), and its results were statistically significantly correlated with those of the PBS Evaluation Tool, School Discipline Practice Scale, and the PBS Effectiveness Scale. However the KIFC-T1's results were not statistically significantly correlated with the results of the School Climate Questionnaire. These results suggest that KIFC-T1 is a reliable and valid tool for assessing the fidelity of universal support implementations.

The Effect of Information Quality and System Quality on Knowledge Service Competence: Focusing on Knowledge Service Types (지식서비스의 정보품질과 시스템품질이 지식서비스 역량에 미치는 영향: 지식서비스 유형을 중심으로)

  • The knowledge resources take a role in promoting the sustainable growth of organization. Therefore, it is important for the members of organization to acquire knowledge consistently so that the company can continue to grow. Knowledge service is the field that provides information and infrastructure which enable the members of organization to acquire new knowledge. As we recognized the importance of knowledge services, we analyzed the level of knowledge service management and development through the impact of knowledge quality on user capabilities. First, the matrix of knowledge patterns was presented based on the type of information and the level of customer interaction. According to patterns, the knowledge service was classified into three types of information providing, information analysis, and infrastructure, and then the results of structural model analysis were presented for each type. It found that the impact of knowledge service quality on user competence was different according to the type of service. The results suggested new indicators for measuring the performance of knowledge services, and provided information for reconstructing services based on the user considering the integrated operation of knowledge service and organizational designing knowledge service.

Impacts of the Accessibility of Parking and Public Transportation on Mode Choice by Trip Purpose in the city of Seoul (서울시의 주차 및 대중교통 이용여건이 통행목적별 교통수단 선택에 미치는 영향)

  • Like always selecting anything in everyday lives, We must choose a travel mode to achieve its purposes driven by diverse factors such as travel distance and accessibility of public transit. Assuming that they are differentiated depending on whether a travel purpose is commuting, shopping or leasure, the study investigated their distinguished impacts on travel mode choice by using binary logit models by travel purpose and mode. Identifying that travel time has an important role in choosing a travel mode whether its purpose is any, the results show that longer travel time tends to increase the possibilities of taking public transit, transfer and rail transit rather than bus. In addition, the easy use of a car and its parking to travelers is more important in their choosing an automobile as a travel mode than other factors. In the models of identifying the probability of mode choice between bus and rail transit, we find that its choice tends to be decided by travelers depending on whether any public transit mode is more accessible to them. When comparing the results among travel purposes, we identify that the easy use of a car and parking in their destination is more important for commuting, while accessibility of public transit in their origination increases the probability of taking a transit mode.

Distribution and properties of intertidal Surface Sediments of Kyeonggi Bay, West Coast of Korea (경기만 조간대 표층퇴적물의 분포와 특성)

  • Kyeonggi Bay, a macrotidal coastal embayment in the Yellow Sea coast of central korea, is fringed by vastly developed tidal flats. About 400 surface sediment samples were collected from the intertidal and subtidal zones of Kyeonggi Bay for a study of the sediment distribution pattern and the surface sediment characteristics of this environment. The kyeonggi Bay surface sediment becomes progressively finer in the shoreward direction, from offshore sand to shoreward silty sand and sandy silt. This shoreward-fining trend is repeated again on the tidal flat and, as a consequence, a grain-size break occurs near the low-water line which separates the intertidal area from the subtidal one. The intertidal and subtidal sediments differ from each other in textural characteristics such as mean grain size and skewness and this can be interpreted to result from differences in hydraulic energy and morphology between the two environments. The mineral and chemical compositions of the Kyeonggi Bay sediments are largely controlled by the sediment grain size. Smectite was nearly absent in the clay mineral assemblage of Kyeonggi Bay sediment. The contents of Co, Cu and Ni were high in the Banweol tidal flat, which suggests a continuous process of accumulation of these metals. the intertidal environment appears to respond rapidly to artificial coastal modifications, the effects of which should be taken into consideration when planning a dam construction or coastal reclamation.

The Relationships among Students' Mapping Understanding, Mapping Errors and Cognitive/Affective Variables in Learning with Analogy (비유를 사용한 수업에서 학생들의 인지적.정의적 특성과 대응 이해 및 대응 오류 유형과의 관계)

  • In this study, we investigated the differences of mapping understanding and the types of mapping errors by the levels of students' cognitive/affective variables and the relationships between mapping understanding and these variables in learning 'concentration and reaction rate' with analogy. After administering the tests regarding logical thinking ability, visual imagery ability, analogical reasoning ability, self efficacy, and need for cognition as pretests, students learned with analogy. Then, students' familiarity and mapping understanding were examined. Analyses of the results revealed that the scores of the mapping understanding for the students with higher levels of all cognitive/affective variables except visual imagery ability and familiarity were significantly higher than those for the students with lower levels. The differences in the types of the mapping errors such as overmapping, failure to map, impossible mapping, artificial mapping, mismapping, rash mapping, and retention of a base feature were also found by the levels of students' cognitive and affective variables. The scores of students' mapping understanding were positively correlated with those of all cognitive and affective variables. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that students' science achievement, logical thinking ability, and familiarity were significant predictors of mapping understanding. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

A Design-phase Quality Model for Ubiquitous Service Ontology (유비쿼터스 서비스 온톨로지를 위한 설계 품질 모델)

  • Effective service description and modeling methodologies are essential for dynamic service composition to provide autonomous services for users in ubiquitous computing environments. In our previous research, we proposed a 'u-Service' as an abstract and structured concept for operations of devices in ubiquitous environments. In addition, we established the mechanism to structure u-Services as an ontology and the description specification to represent attributes of u-Services. However, it did not provide enough methods or standards to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the u-Service ontology in the design time. Since existing quality models for software products or computing systems cannot consider characteristics of ubiquitous services, they are not suitable for ubiquitous service ontology. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a quality evaluation model to design and modeling a good ubiquitous service ontology, based on our u-Service ontology building process. We extract modeling goals and evaluation indicators according to characteristics of ubiquitous service ontology, and establish quality metrics to quantify each quality sub-characteristics. The experiment result of the proposed quality evaluation model for u-Service ontologies which are constructed for our previous works shows that we can analyze the design of ubiquitous service ontology from various angles, and indicate recommendations for improvement.

Developing the Satellite Image based e-Thematic Construction and Management System -Case Study of Supporting Forest Administrative Service- (위성영상기반 전자주제도 작성 및 관리시스템 개발 - 산림행정업무지원서비스를 사례연구로 -)

  • Recently the dramatical development of domestic spatial information technology and the successful construction of Korea NGIS(Nation Geographic Information System) have been the foundation of the scientific national territory utilization and management. However, there still exists the original problems to construct the thematic maps for supporting the various administrative services because administrative officials tend to depend on paper maps and inventories to generate spatial information, process, upgrade and manage. In this situation, there is a greater need to develop GIS system for the effective construction of various thematic maps. In this study, the satellite image based high accurate e-thematic construction and management system was developed to support the forest administrative service such as generating user based forest thematic maps, modifying them, analyzing and outputting through GIS, GPS and satellite images. For the case study, the previous forest paper map of Jeju Island was converted in format of raster and vector data using satellite images to maintain more exact location information so that this system helps to manage domestic spatial information scientifically and effectively within shorter time then support the standard for domestic spatial information. Moreover, this system plays the role of DSS(Decision Supporting System) for forest administrative affairs by integrating the attribute data, managing the GPS data and linking the multimedia data. For this, the additional main objective of this study was acquired powerful GIS component, which is called as e-mapping component, so that it could be regarded as enabling interoperability and reusability within this application. For the future works, the essential element idea and technology in this study could be applied very usefully to other official works such as constructing thematic maps and supporting the desired affairs.

Region-wide Road Transport CO2 Emission Inventory (지역단위 도로교통 탄소배출 인벤토리구축 방법론)

  • Due to its excessive $CO_2$ emissions, road transport sector becomes a target for emission reduction strategies. Although precise and reliable emissions inventories are necessary for evaluating plans and strategies, developing the region-wide inventory is a difficult task mainly because of a lack of data including travel patterns and modal volumes in the reginonal context. Most existing inventory methodologies employ fuel sale data within the target region, which ignores actual regional traffic patterns and thus not suited to its geographical context. To overcome these problems, this study develops region-wide $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology by utilizing the Korea Transport DB (KTDB). KTDB provides a number of useful information and data, such as road network with which one can identify in and out trips over the entire region, traffic volumes of various modes, distance of travel, travel speed and so on. A model of equations that allow the computation of volume of $CO_2$ emitting from the road transport activities within the target region is developed. Using the model, numerical analyses are performed for the case of Busan Metropolitan City to demonstrate the applicability of the developed model. This study is indeed exploratory in the sense that using the existing data, it develops the $CO_2$ emissions inventory methodology which can produce better results than those from conventional fuel sales methodology. This study also suggests further reresarch directions to develop more refined methodologies in region-wide basis.
