The thermal degradation kinetics of SBR and tire were studied using a conventional thermogravimetric analysis in the stream nitrogen at a heating rate of 5, 10, 15, $20^{\circ}C/min$, respectively. Thermogravimetric curves and their derivatives were analyzed using various analytical methods to determine the kinetic parameters. The degradation of the SBR and tire was found to be a complex process which has multi-stages. The Friedman method gave average activation energies for the SBR and tire of 247.53kJ/mol and 230.00kJ/mol, respectively. Mean-while, the Ozawa method Eave 254.80kJ/mol and 215.76kJ/mol. It would appear that either. Friedman's differential method or Ozawa's integral method provided satisfactory mathematical approaches to determine the kinetic parameters for the degradation of the SBR and tire. Approximately 86% and 55% of oil products were obtained at a final temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ and a heating rate of $20^{\circ}C/min$ for the SBR and tire respectively.

Complexity of multiphase flows due to existence of more than two interface including free-surface in one system, cannot be simulated easily. Since more than two fluids affect to flows and disturb interface, non-linearities such as instabilities can be appeared. Among several instabilities on multiphase flows, one of representative is Rayleigh-taylor instability. In order to examine in importance of density disparity, several cases with numerous Atwood number are set. Moreover, investigation of influence on initial disturbance were also considered. Moving particle simulation (MPS) method, which was employed in this paper, was not widely used for multiphase problem. In this study, by adding new particle interaction models such as self-buoyance correction, surface tension, and boundary condition at interface models, MPS were developed having more strength of physics and robust. By applying newly developed multiphase MPS, considered cases are performed and compared each other. Additionally, though existence of disagreement of magnitude of rising velocity between theoretical values from linear potential theory and that of numerical simulation, agreement of tendency can be proved of similarity of result. the discordance of magnitude can be explained due to non-linear effects on numerical simulation which was not considered in theoretical result.

Ocean wave energy harvesting is still too expensive despite developing a variety of wave energy converter (WEC) devices. For the cost-effective wave energy harvesting, it can be an effective measure to use existing breakwaters or newly installed breakwaters for both wave control and energy harvesting purposes. In this study, we investigated the functionality of both breakwater and wave-power generator for the oscillating water column (OWC)-type wave energy converter (WEC) installed in a pneumatic floating breakwater, which was originally developed as a floating breakwater. In order to verify the performance of the breakwater as a WEC, the air flow velocity from air-chamber to WEC has to be evaluated properly. Therefore, air flow velocity, wave transformation and motion of floating structure was numerically implemented based on BEM from linear velocity potential theory without considering the compressibility of air within the chamber. Air pressure, meanwhile, was assumed to be fluctuated by the motions of structure and the water level change within air-chamber. The validity of the obtained values can be determined by comparing the previous results from the numerical analysis for different shapes. Based on numerical model results, wave transformation characteristics around OWC system mounted on the fixed and floating breakwaters, and motions of the structure with air flow velocities are investigated. In summary, all numerical results are almost identical to the previous research considering air compressibility. Therefore, it can be concluded that this analysis not considering air compressibility in the air chamber is more efficient and practical method.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of high concentration of sodium salts and chlorides in soil on the growth of tomato and the uptake of minerals. The growth inhibition rates of plant height and dry weight were different depending on salts, but they were not related to the electric conductivities (EC) and acidities (pH) in the soil solution. The orders of growth inhibition were Cl, SO$_4$, CO$_3$, PO$_4$>NO$_3$ in the sodium salts series, and Na, K, Mg, NH$_4$>Ca in the chlorides. The growth inhibition rates of the sodium salts series tended to be larger than those of the chloride series. Yield was lower 30%~10% in the sodium salt and chloride series than in the control. Chlorophyll content, photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance were lower in the sodium salts and chloride series than in the control. Mineral concentration was lower in sodium salts and chlorides than in control. The nitrate absorption was inhibited in all salts except for NaNO$_3$ and NH$_4$Cl, and specially in NaCl and Na$_2$SO$_4$ treatments of the sodium salts and in KCl treatment of chloride series. K concentration was reduced NaCl and Na$_2$SO$_4$ treatments compared with the other salts. In the sodium salt series, calcium and magnesium concentration were decreased antagonistically when sodium concentration was increased.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of high temperature and drought on growth performance, photosynthetic parameters and photosynthetic pigment contents of Liriodendron tulipifera L. seedlings. The seedlings were grown in controlled-environment growth chambers with combinations of four temperature ($-3^{\circ}C$, $0^{\circ}C$, $+3^{\circ}C$, $+6^{\circ}C$; based on the monthly average for 30 years in Korea) and two water status (control, drought). Temperature rise increased growth, total dry weight and leaf area in all water status. Also photosynthetic rate, dark respiration, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate increased with increasing temperature. In contrast, growth and photosynthetic parameters of L. tulipifera seedlings were lower in $-3^{\circ}C$ than $0^{\circ}C$. But temperature rise decreased water use efficiency in all water status. Temperature rise increased photosynthetic pigment contents of leaf. Also chlorophyll a/b ratio increased with increasing temperature. In conclusion, the elevated temperature lead to causes growth increase through the increase of energy production by higher photosynthetic rate during a growth period of L. tulipifera seedlings.

We present a microscopic understanding of the chemical erosion due to combustion product on the nozzle throat using molecular dynamics simulations. The present erosion process consists of molecule-addition step and equilibrium step. First, either $CO_2$ or $H_2O$ are introduced into the system with high velocity to provoke the collision with graphite surface. Then, the equilibrium simulation is followed. The collision-included dissociation and its influence on the erosion is emphasized and the present molecular observations are compared with the macroscopic chemical reaction model.

Nonlinear flow characteristics of a hydrofoil running under the free surface are investigated based on potential flow theory using singularity distribution techniques. Following Hess & Smith's method[12], sources and vortices are distributed on the surface of the foil and Rankine sources are distributed at a distance above the undisturbed free surface to solve the nonlinear free surface waves(so called Raised Panel Method). Using the linearized Neumann-Kelvin solution, the conversed solutions which rigidly satisfy the nonlinear free surface condition is obtained through an iterative technique. It is validated that the nonlinear solutions are compared with Duncan's experimental results(NACA 0012, $\alpha=5^{\circ}$), showing good correlations with each other. At a very shallow submergence and a very high speed the converged solutions are obtained. As the speed increases higher, it is shown that the difference between the nonlinear and linear solutions are trivial. Finally, the effects of the camber and thickness on the nonlinear flow characteristics of the foil are investigated.

The transient nature and complex geometries of two-phase gas-liquid flows cause fundamental difficulties when measuring flow velocity using an electromagnetic flowmeter. Recently, a current-sensing flowmeter was introduced to obtain measurements with high temporal resolution (Ahn et al.). In this study, current-sensing flowmeter theory was applied to measure the fast velocity transients in slug flows. The velocity fields of axisymmetric gas-liquid slug flow in a vertical pipe were obtained using Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) method, and the virtual potential distributions for the electrodes of finite size were also computed using the finite volume method for simulating slug flow. The output signal prediction for slug flow was carried out from the velocity and virtual potential (or weight function) fields. The flowmeter was numerically calibrated to obtain the cross-sectional liquid mean velocity at an electrode plane from the predicted output signal. Two calibration parameters are proposed for this procedure: a flow pattern coefficient and a localization parameter. The flow pattern coefficient was defined by the ratio of the liquid resistance between the electrodes for two-phase flow with respect to that for single-phase flow, and the localization parameter was introduced to avoid errors in the flowmeter readings caused by liquid acceleration or deceleration around the electrodes. These parameters were also calculated from the computed velocity and virtual potential fields. The results can be used to obtain the liquid mean velocity from the slug flow signal measured by a current-sensing flowmeter.
The objective of this research was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer by wire mesh in impinging air jet system at the potential core region. The first experiment was carried out without mesh between nozzle exit and flat plate and the second experiment was done with mesh between them. When mesh was installed in front of the plate, heat transfer has been Increased due to the acceleration between rectangular halls and divided small jet In case clearances are changed, heat transfer comes to maximum under the condition of C=1mm, irrespective of nozzle exit velocity and H/B. Also the average heat transfer enhancement rate of a flat plate with mesh has been increased about 44% at maximum under the condition of U=18m/s, H/B=2 and C=1mm, compared to the result of a flat plate without mesh.

In this study, the current-voltage curves for metals were measured using cyclic voltammetry. The relationship between the electrochemical properties and surface states of metals were investigated by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). In cyclic voltammetry, we used a 3-electrode system for the electrochemical measurements. The measurement was conducted at the condition that consists of the first reduction from the initial potential to -1350 mV, continuous oxidation to 1650 mV, and last reduction to the initial potential. The scan rates were 50, 100, 150 and 250 mV/s. The results show the C-V characteristics of metals to be for an irreversible process, which was caused by the oxidation current from cyclic voltammogram, when monoethanolamine (MEA) was used as a corrosion inhibitor. When we used MEA as a corrosion inhibitor, the diffusion coefficient was decreased as the concentration of electrolyte was increased. In the SEM images of copper, we observed an increase of surface corrosion at the increased electrolyte concentration. Addition of $1.0{\times}10^{-3}M$ corrosion inhibitor MEA reduced the effect of corrosion prevention due to the relatively large diffusion coefficient at the electrolyte concentration of 0.1N.
