Estimation of Dynamic Load Amplification Factors under Various Roughness Indices and Vehicle Classes (주행차량의 종류와 아스팔트 콘크리트 포장 평탄성에 따른 동적하중 증가계수 산정)

  • In this study, frequently passing vehicles with two, three, four, and five axles were chosen through traffic volume analysis in Kyung-In Expressway in order to analyze how the road roughness and vehicle speed affect on the dynamic loads for roads in various vehicle classes. Dynamic loads according to chosen vehicles are estimated by TruckSim program. Dynamic load amplification factor is ratio between dynamic and static loads, and it is also determined for each vehicle classes. From the result of dynamic loads estimated by the dynamic load amplification factor, it is shown that for three-axles vehicle, when IRI is 3.5 and vehicle speed is 100km/hr, asphalt pavements receive additional 36% of static loads in maximum. The analysis of the amplification factor according to each vehicle classes also indicates that the amplification factor increases as the distance between the axles becomes smaller and each axle receives more loads.

A Study on Velocity-Log Conductivity, Velocity-Head Cross Covariances in Aquifers with Nonstationary Conductivity Fields (비정체형 지하대수층의 속도-대수투수계수, 속도-수두 교차공분산에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, random flow field in a nonstationary porous formation is characterized through cross covariances of the velocity with the log conductivity and the head. The hydraulic head and the velocity in saturated aquifers are found through stochastic analysis of a steady, two-dimensional flow field without recharge. Expression for these cross covariances are obtained in quasi-analytic forms all in terms of the parameters which characterize the nonstationary conductivity field and the average head gradient. The cross covariances with a Gaussian correlation function for the log conductivity are presented for two particular cases where the trend is either parallel or perpendicular to the mean head gradient and for separation distances along and across the mean flow direction. The results may be of particular importance in transport predictions and conditioning on field measurements when the log conductivity field is suspected to be nonstationary and also serve as a benchmark for testing nonstationary numerical codes.   • The response of a bridge can be influenced by span length, bridge's surface condition, vehicle's weight, and vehicle's velocity. It is difficult to predict accurate behavior of a bridge. In the current standard of specifications, such dynamic effect is defined by impact factor and prescribed to consider live load as to increase design load by means of multiplying this value by live load. However, it is not well understood because the Impact factor method differs from every country. Dynamic, static and pseudo-staitic field loading tests on PSC-I girder bridges were carried out to find out the dynamic property of the bridge. This paper is aimed to figure out actual dynamic property of the bridge by using field loading test. An empirical method based on impact factor is widely used and also argued. Displacement and strain response measured from the tests was compared with one from the empirical method. The former seems to be reasonable since it can consider actual response of a bridge through field tests.

Anisotropy of Softwood Structural Lumber Using The Elastic Modulus Determined by The Ultrasonic Nondestructive Method (초음파 비파괴 시험법을 이용한 탄성계수의 산정을 통한 침엽수 구조용재의 이방성에 관한 기초연구)

  • The aim of this paper is to present the modulus of elasticity of $E_L$, $E_R$, $E_T$ along three principal axis of softwood dimension lumber by nondestructive method. Ultrasonic measurement was carried out on defect free wood samples taken by the Japanese Larch, SPF (spruce-pine-fir) and Hem-fir $2{\times}4s$. The ultrasound velocities were measured to calculate young's moduli and it was derived elastic constants for each wood samples using the ultrasound velocities and densities of wood. From the test, $E_L$ was much greater than $E_R$ and $E_T$. $E_R/E_T$ ratios were about 1.3. The high density wood had high young's moduli in three principal axis and the difference in young's moduli between species was greater in transverse direction than longitudinal direction. The anisotropy of the lumber was presented through the calculated elastic moduli and compliances matrix in diagonal term were determined by inverting the stiffness matrix.

Evaluation of Modulus of Elasticity of Wood Exposed to Accelerated Weathering Test by Measuring Ultrasonic Transmission Time (촉진 열화 목재의 초음파 전달 시간 측정을 통한 탄성 계수의 평가)

  • In this study, accelerated weathering test was performed with wood, a major material for wooden cultural building. In order to evaluate the deterioration of wood, ultrasonic transmission times were measured to evaluate dynamic modulus of elasticity (MOE), which was verified by determining static MOE using three-point bending test. Ultrasonic transmission time was decreased with an increase in the weathering time levels (0, 500, 1000 hours) while it increased in 1500 and 2000 hours. Distribution of dynamic and static MOE was similar to that of the ultrasonic transmission time measurements. The results mean that the measurement of ultrasonic transmission time was very effective to evaluate MOE of wooden cultural buildings for their preservation and management. This method could be utilized to assess wooden cultural buildings as a way of preserving them in a scientific manner.

  • This research describes quantitative effects of initial dispersion conditions upon the dispersion randomness of Magnus rotor bomblets. Ratios of the missile spin rate to the missile velocity, a, flight path angles, ${\gamma}$ and altitudes, h, were changed to investigate their effects on dispersion randomness. Dispersion was analyzed through calculation of 6 degree of freedom motion equation with aerodynamic coefficients from wind tunnel experiments. In order to analyze the randomness, regression analysis is adopted to calculate the coefficient of determination. The optimized ratio of the missile spin rate to the missile velocity and flight path angle were obtained and the dispersion altitudes had more effect on the dispersion diameter and had less effect on dispersion than other parameters.

  • In the affine projection algorithm(APA), the projection dimension depends on a number of projection basis and of elements of input vector used for updating of coefficients of the adaptive filter. The projection dimension is closely related to a convergence speed of the APA, and it determines computational complexity. As the adaptive filter approaches to steady state, convergence speed is decreased. Therefore it is possible to reduce projection dimension that determines convergence speed. In this paper, we proposed the variable dimension affine projection algorithm (VDAPA) that controls the projection dimension and uses the relation between variations of coefficients of the adaptive filter and convergence speed of the APA. The proposed method reduces computational complexity of the APA by modifying the number of projection basis on convergence state. For demonstrating the good performances of the proposed method, simulation results are compared with the APA and normalized LMS algorithm in convergence speed and computational quantity.

Electrocatalytic Effect on the Oxygen Reduction and Electrochemical Properties of Co(Ⅱ)-dimethyl Bipyridine Perchlorate (Co(Ⅱ)$(dimethyl bipyridine)_3(ClO_4)_2$의 전기화학적 성질과 산소환원에 대한 전극 촉매 효과)

  • Diffusion Coefficient$(D_0)$ and electrode reaction rate Constant$(K_0)$ of Co$(dimethyl bipyridine)_3(ClO_4)_2$ were determined by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry. It was also investigated that the effects of solvent, concentration, and scan rate, etc. on the diffusion coefficient and the temperature effect on the rate constant. The peak currents and diffusion coefficients were dcreased as increasing the viscosity of solvent. Diffusion coefficient was $5.54{\times}10^{-6 }cm^2/sec$ and the reaction rate constant was $2.39{\times}10^{-3 }/s$ at 25$^{\circ}C$. The thermodynamic parameters such as ${\Delta}G^{\neq},\;{\Delta}H^{\neq},\;and\;{\Delta}S$ were calculated from plotting the reaction rate constants versus the solution temperatures. This compound was shown the catalytic effect on the oxygen reduction that the reduction peak current of oxygen was greatly enhanced and the peak potential was shifted to +0.2 volt.

A Study on Variation of Impact Factors of Simple and Continuous Steel Highway Bridges (단순 및 연속 강도로교의 충격계수 변화에 관한 연구)

  • A method to calculate maximum dynamic deflection, which is close to the measured deflection, was proposed by comparing the real deflection with the claculated one in three span continuous highway steel bridge. From this, the pattern of variation of impact factors depending an vehicle speeds and weights was studied in simple and continuous bridges. From the numerical analysis, it was known that the maximum dynamic deflection which is close to the measured one could be obtained by using the transformed flexural rigidity of a bridge, and the factors are generally increased with increasing vehicle speed. However, it was thought that there are some problems in the code specification about the impact factors of the continuous bridges.

  • The goal of this paper is to study the joint effect of factors of neural network teaming procedure. There are many factors, which may affect the generalization ability and teaming speed of neural networks, such as the initial values of weights, the learning rates, and the regularization coefficients. We will apply a constructive training algerian for neural network, then patterns are trained incrementally by considering them one by one. First, we will investigate the effect of these factors on generalization performance and learning speed. Based on these factors' effect, we will propose a joint method that simultaneously considers these three factors, and dynamically hue the learning rate and regularization coefficient. Then we will present the results of some experimental comparison among these kinds of methods in several simulated nonlinear data. Finally, we will draw conclusions and make plan for future work.
