  • A transfer alignment is used to initialize, align, and calibrate a SINS(Slave INS) using a MINS(Master INS) in motion. This paper presents an airborne transfer alignment with velocity and azimuth matching to estimate inertial sensor biases under the wing flexure influence. This study also considers the lever arm, time delay and relative orientation between MINS and SINS. The traditional transfer alignment only uses velocity matching. In contrast, this paper utilizes the azimuth matching to prevent divergence of the azimuth when the aircraft is stationary or quasi-stationary since the azimuth is less affected by the wing flexibility. The performance of the proposed Kalman filter is analyzed using two factors; one is the estimation performance of gyroscope and accelerometer bias and the other is comparing aircraft dynamics and attitude covariance. The performance of the proposed filter is verified using a long term flight test. The test results show that the proposed scheme can be effectively applied to various platforms that require airborne transfer alignment.

  • An Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS) is an electric optical system with EO/IR cameras, laser sensors, and an IMU. The EOTS calculates coordinates of targets, using attitude and acceleration measured by the IMU. In particular for an armed aircraft, the performance of the weapon system depends on how quickly and accurately it acquires the target coordinates. The IMU should be operated after alignment is complete, to meet the coordinate accuracy required by the weapon system so the initial stabilization time of the IMU should be reduced, by quickly measuring the attitude and acceleration. Alignment is the process of determining the initial attitude by resolving the attitude error of the IMU, and the IMU of mission equipment such as an airborne EOTS, uses velocity matching based on the velocity from GPS/INS for aircraft navigation. In this paper, a method is presented to improve the transfer alignment performance of the airborne EOTS, by maneuvering aircraft and the mission equipment. First, the performance factor of the alignment was identified, as a heading error through the velocity matching model and simulation results. Then acceleration maneuvers and attitude changes were necessary, to correct the error. As a result of flight tests applied to an EOTS on a OOO aircraft system, the transfer alignment performance was improved as the duration time was decreased, by more than five times when the aircraft accelerated by more than 0.2g and the EOTS was moving until 6.7deg/s.

  • This paper theoretically analyzes the effect of the velocity and attitude errors of Master Inertial Navigation System(MINS) on the accuracy of Slave Inertial Navigation System(SINS) transfer alignment in velocity and attitude matching, and validates the analysis through simulation. Theoretical analysis involves deriving a new state equation that considers the velocity and attitude errors of MINS from the state equation of the transfer alignment filter, and deriving the state estimation equation of the Kalman filter based on this. The analysis confirms that MINS's velocity and attitude errors induce the same level of velocity and attitude errors in SINS. A reference inertial navigation system model is added to the simulation model, and the transfer alignment accuracy is analyzed by comparing the navigation information of MINS and SINS with the reference inertial navigation system. It is confirmed that the accuracy analysis results through simulation are consistent with the theoretically analyzed results, and through this, the validity of the theoretically analysis in this paper is verified. The research findings indicate that when performing transfer alignment using MINS, which is likely to be operated for prolonged periods in pure inertial navigation mode, the navigation errors of MINS are transferred to SINS. This implies that initial correction navigation is necessary to be considered for SINS

  • This paper considers the transfer alignment in the inertial navigation system which has lever-arm and the time delay in the velocity measurement. We suggest a method to improve the performance of the velocity matching. First, we analyze the estimation performance of the velocity matching through the tuning of the two covariance matrices of process noise and measurement noise. Next we provide some maneuvering conditions of the vehicles to improve the estimation performance using the observability analysis. The analysis results are verified using the computer simulations, which show that cruise movements do not provide the azimuth estimation of the vehicles, while east or north accelerating movement can provide.

  • This paper describes about the method for designing an extended Kalman filter to accurately measure the position of the spatial-phase system using a semiconductor sensor. Spatial position is expressed by the correlation of the rotated coordinate system attached to the body from the inertia coordinate system (a fixed coordinate system). To express the attitude, quaternion was adapted as a state variable, Then, the state changes were estimated from the input value which was measured in the gyro sensor. The observed data is the value obtained from the acceleration sensor. By matching between the measured value in the acceleration sensor and the predicted calculation value, the best variable was obtained. To increase the accuracy of estimation, designation of the extended Kalman filter was performed, which showed excellent ability to adjust the estimation period relative to the sensor property. As a result, when a three-axis gyro sensor and a three-axis acceleration sensor were adapted in the estimator, the RMS(Root Mean Square) estimation error in simulation was retained less than 1.7[$^{\circ}$], and the estimator displayed good property on the prediction of the state in 100 ms measurement period.

  • The purpose of this paper is to extract fast DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using satellite images. DEM extraction consists of three parts. First part is the modeling of satellite position and attitude, second part is the matching of two images to find corresponding points of them and third part is to calculate the elevation of each point by using the results of the first and second part. The position and attitude modeling of satellite is processed by using GCPs. A area based matching method is used to find corresponding points between the stereo satellite images. The elevation of each point is calculated using the exterior orientation parameters obtained from modeling and conjugate points from matching. In the DEM generation system, matching procedure holds most of a processing time, therefore to reduce the time for matching, a new fast matching algorithm using gradient correlation and fast similarity measure calculation method is proposed. In this paper, the SPOT satellite images, level 1A 6000$\times$6000 panchromatic images are used to extract DEM. The experiment result shows the possibility of fast DEM extraction with the satellite images.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method detecting foot motion capture in order to overlap in realtime foot's 3D virtual model from stereo cameras. In order to overlap foot's virtual model at the same position of the foot, a process of the foot's joint detection to regularly track the foot's joint motion is necessary, and accurate register both foot's virtual model and user's foot in complicated motion is most important problem in this technology. In this paper, we propose a dynamic registration using two types of marker groups. A plane information of the ground handles the relationship between foot's virtual model and user's foot and obtains foot's pose and location. Foot's rotation is predicted by two attached marker groups according to instep of center framework. Consequently, we had implemented our proposed system and estimated the accuracy of the proposed method using various experiments.

  • The recognition of a relatively big and rarely movable object. such as refrigerator and air conditioner, etc. is necessary because these objects can be crucial global stable features of Simultaneous Localization and Map building(SLAM) in the indoor environment. In this paper. we propose a novel method to recognize these big objects using a sequence of 3D scenes. The particles representing an object to be recognized are scattered to the environment and then the probability of each particles is calculated by the matching test with 3D lines of the environment. Based on the probability and degree of convergence of particles, we can recognize the object in the environment and the pose of object is also estimated. The experimental results show the feasibility of incremental object recognition based on particle filtering and the application to SLAM

  • Spread of smartphone creates various contents. Among many contents, AR application using Location Based Service(LBS) is needed widely. In this paper, we propose error correction algorithm for location-based Augmented Reality(AR) system using computer vision technology in android environment. This method that detects the early features with SURF(Speeded Up Robust Features) algorithm to minimize the mismatch and to reduce the operations, and tracks the detected, and applies it in mobile environment. We use the GPS data to retrieve the location information, and use the gyro sensor and G-sensor to get the pose estimation and direction information. However, the cumulative errors of location information cause the mismatch that and an object is not fixed, and we can not accept it the complete AR technology. Because AR needs many operations, implementation in mobile environment has many difficulties. The proposed approach minimizes the performance degradation in mobile environments, and are relatively simple to implement, and a variety of existing systems can be useful in a mobile environment.
