To ensure a safe operation of the prototype KGT-74 kW small gas turbine, vibrational reliabilities of the compressor 1st, 2nd, and 3rd stages and turbine blades have been estimated and reviewed. FE analyses have been carried out to obtain the natural vibration characteristics of the blades, and impact modal testings have been performed on every each one of the blades to measure their 1st natural frequencies. Then, the Campbell diagram analyses have been carried out to judge the safety of the blades from resonant failures up to 6k harmonics. Results show that the compressor 1st stage blade is exposed to a potential resonant failure with 3k harmonic around a rated speed of 30,000 rpm but that the other compressor 2nd and 3rd stages and turbine blades are safe from resonant failures. Finally, 27,900 rpm is selected as the safe operation limit for the KGT-74 ㎾ gas turbine relative to the blade vibrations.

Miniaturized specimen technology Permits mechanical behavior to be determined using a minimum volume of material. The technology is useful in case of not collecting a large amount of materials from industrial equipments. Five kinds of accelerated degradation materials were prepared by isothermal aging heat treatment at $630^{\circ}C$. Three kinds of specimens were prepared for impact testing. In order to increase plastic constraint of subsize specimen, side-groove was introduced. Results between subsize and full size impact testing were compared. Size effects correlations were developed for the impact properties of turbine rotor material. These correlations successfully predict the ductile brittle transition temperature (DBTT) of full size Charpy impact specimens based on subsize specimen data.

Distributed generation(DG) of combined cooling, heat. and power(CCHP)has been gaining momentum in recent year as efficient, secure alternative for meeting increasing energy demands. This paper presents the energy performance of microturbine CCHP system equipped with an absorption chiller by modelling it in hospital building. The orders of study were as following. 1)The list and schedule of energy consumption equipment in hospital were examined such as heating and cooling machine, light etc. 2) Annual report of energy usage and monitoring data were examined as heating, cooling, DHW, lighting, etc. 3) The weather data in 2007 was used for simulation and was arranged by meteorological office data in Daejeon. 4) Reference simulation model was built by comparison of real energy consumption and simulation result by TRNSYS and ESP-r. The energy consumption pattern of building were analyzed by simulation model and energy reduction rate were calculated over the cogeneration. As a result of this study, power generation efficiency of turbine was about 30% after installing micro gas turbine and lighting energy as well as total electricity consumption can be reduced by 40%. If electricity energy and waste heat in turbine are used, 56% of heating energy and 67% of cooling energy can be reduced respectively, and total system efficiency can be increased up to 70%.
Feasibilities of the application of a micro gas turbine cogeneration system to a large size hospital building are studied by estimating energy demands and supplies. The energy demand for electricity is estimated by surveying and sorting the consumption records for various equipment and devices. The cooling heating, and hot water demands are further refined with TRNSYS and ESP-r to generate load profiles for the subsequent operation simulations. The operation of the suggested cogeneration system in conjunction with the load data is simulated for a time span of a year to predict energy consumption and gain profile. The simulation revealed that the thermal efficiency of the gas turbine is about 30% and it supplies 60% of the electricity required by the building. The recovered heat can meet 56% of total heating load and 67% of cooling, and the combined efficiency reaches up to 70%.

This paper describes a methodology and results for the analysis of a small steam injected gas turbine cogeneration system. A performance analysis program for the gas turbine engine is utilized with modifications required for the model of steam injection and the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). The object of simulation is a simple cycle gas turbine engine under development which adopts a centrifugal compressor. The analysis is based on the off-design operation of the gas turbine and the compressor performance map is utilized. Analyses are carried out with the injection ratio as the main parameter. The effect of steam injection on the power and efficiency of gas turbine and cogeneration capacity is investigated. Also presented is the variation in the main operating parameters inside the HRSG. Remarkable reduction in NOx generation by steam injection is confirmed. In addition, it is observed that for the 100% power operation the temperature of the cooled first nozzle blade decreases by 100.deg. C at full steam injection, which seems to have a favorable effect on the engine life time.

This paper presents models for the dynamic simulation of a regenerative gas turbine and describes dynamic behaviors of a small regenerative engine. A quasi-steady model is introduced where the inertia of the working fluid is assumed to be negligible compared with the mechanical inertia of the rotating shaft. Based on this quasi-steady model, the transient model for the heat exchanger is employed to simulate the unsteady heat exchange in the recuperator. The effect of the thermal inertia of the recuperator metal on transient behaviors is analyzed by comparing the predicted results of the transient and steady state heat exchanger models. For several load change modes such as sudden increase, decrease and periodic variation, engine dynamic characteristics are investigated by applying a fuel control logic for the constant shaft speed. It is found that the thermal inertia of the recuperator metal has a dominant effect on the whole engine dynamic behavior.

Design performances of the fuel cell / gas turbine hybrid power generation systems based on two different fuel cells (PEMFC, SOFC) have been comparatively analyzed. In each system, the fuel cell operates at an elevated pressure corresponding to the compressed air pressure of the gas turbine. Both internally and externally reformed systems were analyzed for the SOFC hybrid system. Component design parameters of 10kW class small systems are assumed. For all hybrid systems, increasing the turbine inlet temperature increases the power portion of the gas turbine. With increasing the turbine inlet temperature, system efficiency decreases in the PEMFC system and the internally reformed SOFC system while that of the externally reformed SOFC system increases slightly. The internally reformed SOFC hybrid system is predicted to exhibit the best system efficiency.

The Altitude Engine Test Facility(AETF) was built at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute and has been being operated for the gas turbine engines in the class of 3,000 lbf thrust. To enhance the confidence level of AETF to the international level, a series of studies and facility modification have been conducted to improve the measurement uncertainty and reliability. In this paper, some part of the facility evaluation tests performed with a single spool turbojet engine are introduced. Tests were performed simulating the flight conditions as steady state, sea level for various flight speeds (i.e., Mn=0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9). The obtained test results are compared with the predicted values of the engine DECK. The measurement uncertainties of airflow, net thrust, fuel flow and SFC showed 0.791~0.914%, 0.851~1.706%, 1.372~7.348% and 1.642~5.205%, respectively. Thus, from this research, the improvement methods of uncertainties on AETF has been confirmed.
