Cyclic loading tests for the PC moment frame with plastic shear hinges were performed to evaluate the seismic performance. The plastic shear hinges consisted of two steel plates were installed at the mid-length of the beam to connect the PC frames. Three shear links are existed in each steel plate. The three shear links were designed using shear force corresponding to the shear capacity of 50%, 75%, and 100% of the beam shear capacity. The proposed connections showed an efficient energy dissipation capacity and good structural performance. As a result, it is reasonable to design the plastic shear hinges using design shear capacity less than 100% of the beam shear capacity.
The market share of high-speed railway vehicles is increasing across the world. A high-performance impact energy absorption factor is essential to satisfy the safety standards of railway vehicles. A deformed tube assembly is a typical energy absorption factor in railway vehicles. The tube assembly comprises a deformed tube and a press-fitting punch, its performance depends on the absorption energy characteristics in the plastic zone of the tube. In this study, a deformed tube assembly of a railway vehicle is designed that can absorb a maximum impact energy of 200kJ under plastic deformation. Slab method and finite element analysis are used to estimate the reaction force of the punch in the initial stage, the performance of the designed tube assembly is confirmed experimentally.

In this study seismic design procedure for buckling-restrained braced frame systems was proposed using hysteretic energy spectrum and accumulated ductility spectrum constructed from single degree of freedom systems. The hysteretic energy spectra and accumulated ductility spectra corresponding to target ductility ratio were constructed first. The cross-sectional area of braces required to meet a given target displacement was obtained by equating the hysteretic energy demand to the accumulated plastic energy dissipated by braces. Twenty earthquake records were utilized to construct the spectra and to verify the validity of the design procedure. According to analysis results of three- and eight-story buckling-restrained braced frame structures designed using the proposed method, the mean values for the top story displacement correspond well with the given performance target displacements. Also, the inter-story drifts turned out to be relatively uniform over the structure height, which is desirable because uniform inter-story drifts indicate uniform damage distribution. Therefore if was concluded that the proposed energy-based method could be a reliable alternative to conventional strength-based design procedure for structures with buckling-restrained braces.
The initiation and growth of microcracks or microvoids inside concrete results in the progressive degradation of concrete. This damage processing along processing along with plastic deformation is main cause of nonlinear behavior of concrete. In this study, a continuum damage model of concrete is developed for the analysis of the nonlinear behavior of concrete due to damage and elasto-plastic deformation. Anisotropic damage tensor is used to describe the anisotropy of concrete and hypothesis of equivalent elastic energy is used to define the effective elastic tensor. The damage model including the damage evolution law and constitutive equation is derived with damage variable and damage surface which is defined by damage energy release rate by using the Helmholtz free energy and dissipation potential based on the thermodynamic principles. By adopting a typical plasticity model of concrete, plasticity of concrete is included to this model. Afinite element analysis program implemented with this model was developed and finite element analysis was performed for the analyses of concrete subjected to uniaxial and biaxial loadings. Comparison of the results of analysis with those of experiments and other models shows that the model successfully predicts the nonlinear behavior of concrete.

The stress waves generated by the mechanical energies by impact or the chemical energies by the explosions are transmitted through medium. The wave propagation process through medium is a very complicated procedure due to the reflections and refractions of the waves at the free surfaces and interfaces. In this study the pressure independent Von-Mises model is employed for the wave propagation analysis in the layered systems. Governing equations of this study are conservation equations of momentum and mass in Lagrangian coordinate system which is fixed to the material. Due to the shock-front which violates the continuity assumptions inherent in the differential equations numerical artificial viscosity is used to spread the shock front over several computational zones. These equations are solved by Finite Difference Method with discretized time and space coordinates. The associate normality flow rule as a plastic theory is implemented to find the plastic strains.
In this work, we have prepared the reactive media with the pyrophyllite based using ceramic extrusion process. The characteristics of pyrophyllite were analyzed using XRD, XRF, DSC-TGA and Zeta-potential analysis. The study of pyrophyllite based ceramic reactive media were conducted under various roasting temperature (500 to $1,300^{\circ}C$) conditions. With increasing the roasting temperature, strength was increased but BET surface area was decreased. Thermally treated pyrophyllite were analyzed by means of weight loss and structural changes as detected by using XRD, DSC-TGA and SEM analysis. Pyrophyllite primarily transforms to pyrophyllite dehydroxylate after roasting at $1,000^{\circ}C$. Pyrophyllite dehydroxylate transforms to mullite and cristobalite at $1,300^{\circ}C$. This study demonstrates that pyrophyllite could be used as a reactive media for ceramic support layers from Permeable Reactive Barriers.

In this paper, the deformation-energy curves of the plastic hinges and the vessel bow, which are the major energy dissipation mechanism of a pile protective structures, were estimated, and the parametric study was performed by using those curves to apply the simplified collision model which developed in the previous study. Considered parameters were the mass of slab, the number of piles, the mass of vessel and the collision speed. As results, the difference of energy dissipation mechanism of two pile types (filled and non-filled) were revealed, and the collision behaviors of the protective structures could be tuned by the control of the inertia mass of capping slab. Therefore the simplified collision model can be used in a primary design and optimal design.
The effects of calcium type catalysts addition on the thermal decomposition of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) resin have been studied in a thermal analyze. (TGA, DSC) and a small batch reactor. The calcium type catalysts tested were calcinated dolomite, lime, and calcinated oyster shell. As the results of TGA experiments, pyrolysis starting temperature for LDPE varied in the range of $330{\sim}360^{\circ}C$ according to heating rate, but EVA resin had the 1st pyrolysis temperature range of $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ and the 2nd pyrolysis temperature range of $425{\sim}525^{\circ}C$. The calcinated dolomite enhanced the pyrolysis rate in LDPE pyrolysis reaction, while the calcium type catalysts reduced the pyrolysis rate in EVA pyrolysis reaction. In the DSC experiments, addition of calcium type catalysts reduced the melting point, but did not affect to the heat of fusin. Calcinated dolomite reduced 20% of the heat of pyrolysis reaction. In the batch system experiments, the mixing of calcinated dolomite and lime enhanced the yield of fuel oil, but did not affect to the distribution of carbon numbers.

In this study, an NH3-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) experiment was performed to control NOx in the temperature range of 200~500 ℃. The reaction activity experiment was conducted by varying the firing temperature of Sb/TiO2 when using V/Sb/TiO2 composite as a catalyst. As a result, when the sintering temperature of Sb/TiO2 was 600 ℃, the efficiency was the best, and it was confirmed that the NOx conversion rate was close to 80% at the reaction temperature of 250 ℃. H2-temperature programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses were employed to derive the cause of the activity enhancement when prepared at different firing temperatures as described above. As a result, when the sintering temperature of Sb/TiO2, which showed an excellent activity, was prepared at 600 ℃, it was confirmed that VSbO4 was generated. This indicates that the non-stoichiometric species of V increased, resulting in the excellent NOx conversion rate of V/Sb/TiO2.
