A Study on the Fire Organization of the Effectiveness Life Safety Services (소방조직의 효과적인 생활안전서비스에 관한 연구)

  • The importance of fire safety services has increased expanding its services into prevention of danger and the reinforcement of safety services. The purpose of this study is to suggest a way for effective safety service by surveying fire fighters and residents of Gyeonggi Province and examining theories of safety services and actual status of 119 safety units. This study suggests the use of social capital by local community, establishment of cooperation between organizations, supports by citizens, cooperative activities by organizations, difference between emergency report and non emergency report and social safety net role of safety fire services.

  • In order to choose work system of fire organization between specialization system and multi- tasking system, fire organization's works should be analyzed. The most important thing of this task is evaluation of speciality of work that can be performed by estimating the duration of expertise of fire fighters' work. In this study I estimated the duration by survey. The duration is 12 years and 5 months which is a year and 9 months after promotion to fire senior sergeant lank in the case of average fire fighter.

  • The system of The Volunteer Fire Brigade is the Civil autonomic one which was set up from The Chosun Dynasty and has been active. Having suffered from several dificulties from Japanese control in the Chosun Dynasty, The Volunteer Fire Brigade was established by the enactment 1958 Fire Law and we have had it up to this time. The Volunteer Fire brigade played an important role in the period of the past Fire fighting personnel and equipment which we did not have. It has carried out the assistance of the Fire extinction, the early extinction of a fire in the rural region, the extinction of the forest fire, and lots of social volunteering actions etc. but, today's Fire fighting system has made the surprising developments, such as the improvement of national economic power, the increase of knowledge about the safety of the people, the openness of The Fire Fighting Department of Korea. I will try to check out the role of The Volunteer Fire Brigade which filled up the lacking part the fire fighting in the past and make the measures which can activate in these days, looking for the new field of the movement.

A Study on the Relationship between Leadership Styles and Organizational Outcome in Oklahoma's Volunteer Fire Department (리더십 유형과 조직성과와의 관계 분석 - 미국 오클라호마주 의용소방대를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to determine dominant leadership styles of the U.S. volunteer fire department and analyzes relationship between leadership styles of a fire chiefs and organizational outcome. This study reviewed 205 volunteer fire fighters in Oklahoma State which is located in middle and southern part of the U.S. As research results, it turned out that the most common leadership type of volunteer fire chiefs is transformational leadership. The second most common leadership type is transactional leadership. Laissez-faire leadership was the least common leadership type. This study analyzed that transformational leadership and transactional leadership have positive relationship with organizational outcome. In contrast, laissez-faire leadership has negative relationship with organizational outcome. Also, it turned out that the volunteer fire fighters evaluate that transformational and transactional leadership decrease as working years of current volunteer fire chiefs increase.

  • This research focuses on finding the way of improving creativity in fire stations by scrutinizing the factors influencing and enhancing creativity in organizations. As environmental changes including the needs of citizens as well as the climate change are moving culminated today, fire stations should be changed appropriately to get the legitimacy of existence not to mention their own mission accomplishments. In this respect, the creativity can be expected as the main factor for fire stations' going concern. This research provided 5 hypotheses to find whether the chosen factors such as vision, learning/unlearning and positive feedback affect the creativity in fire stations. To prove hypotheses are valid, we employed survey as a method in which 155 firemen in Seoul responded, ending up with getting the result that the vision formulation and sharing, unlearning activities and positive feedback improve organizational creativity. In conclusion, this paper suggests that fire stations establish useful policies for the creativity based on these research findings.

  • This study aimed to provide help to seeking a preventive method of intervention in firefighter's job satisfaction by investigating the role of perceived organizational support in the relationship between firefighter's work-life balance and job satisfaction. For the foregoing, this study investigated by conducting purposeful sampling targeting 115 firefighters in Gyeonggi-do. Study results show that firefighter's work-life balance has a significant influence on job satisfaction, perceived organizational support turned out to have a significant moderating effect between work-life balance and job satisfaction. As a Wellness Convergence, based on the results, this study showed a possibility for application of perceived organizational support as a firefighter's internal coping resource, suggesting positive introduction of preventive and effective 'policy for work-life balance' and support to derive job satisfaction.

Influence of Coping, Self-Disclosure, Ruminant, and Organizational Culture on Traumatic Growth of Firefighters (소방공무원의 대처, 자기노출, 반추, 조직문화가 외상 후 성장에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to examine the coping, self-disclosure, rumination, organizational culture and degree of Posttraumatic Growth(PTG) of firefighters who experienced trauma, and to identify the factors that influence PTG. Data collection was conducted for 103 firefighters working at three fire departments located in Gyeongsang-do. As a result of the study, 46(44.7%) PTGs of medium to high level averaged 58.07 points, and the total PTG average was 44.56 points. The influenced factors affecting PTG in firefighters were emotional-focused coping(EFC), self-disclosure(SD), deliberate rumination(DR) and innovative-oriented culture(IOC).The explanatory power of these factors PTG was 45.9%. In order to promote the firefighters 'PTG, it is necessary to approach of EFC, SE, and DR but also an organizational aspect as well as IOC construction, and these results can be used as an arbitration plan to improve the firefighters' PTG.

  • 일본은 소방제도의 틀이 잘 발달되어 있으면서도 잦은 자연재해 등으로 인해 지역주민에 의한 상부상조의 조직으로서 의용소방대가 발달되어 있다. 특히 화재의 발생이 많지 않거나 사고가 빈번하게 발생하지 않지 않는 지역에서는 의용소방대가 주도적인 역할을 담당하고 있다. 관설소방이 충분히 발달된 지역에서도 지진 등 천재지변의 대응에 대비하여 의용소방대를 육성 발전시키고 있다. 이 논문에서는 일본 의용소방대의 운영실태, 의용소방대 활성화를 위한 소방청의 추진사항 등에 대해 분석한다.
