Effects of Store Owners and Store Characteristics on Retail Store Management Performance: Focusing on Nadle Store in Busan and Ulsan Regions (소매점의 점주특성과 점포특성이 경영성과에 미치는 영향: 부산·울산지역 나들가게를 중심으로)

  • This study examined in detail how the store characteristics and store owner characteristics of nadle store affect the management performance. First, as a result of analyzing the sales results according to the business experience and the same residency, the non-resident of the workplace was 842,000 won, which was 92,000 won higher than the residence. Among the store owner with experience, non-residents were the highest with 918,000 won. Second, as a result of analyzing the sales performance according to the operation type and the store size, the highest sales type was the mart type, followed by the inclusion of fruits and vegetables with an average of 874,000 won. When looking at the size of stores, more than 60㎡ was 790,000 won. The highest operating type of sales over 60㎡ was mart type, which was 960,000 won, followed by convenience stores with an average of 933,000 won. These results will serve as a reference for suggesting not only the small business policy of the government but also the management efficiency of retail stores.

The Effect of Alcohol Availability on Drinking Behavior : A Multilevel Analysis on Urban Regions (알코올가용성이 음주행태에 미치는 영향: 도시지역을 대상으로 한 다수준 분석)

  • Social and health problems related to drinking are serious. Drinking behavior is affected not only by personal factors but also by environment factors. The purpose of this study is to find out how the alcoholic beverage stores in community influence the drinking behaviors of individuals after adjusting the individual level variables and provide it as basic data for alcohol related regulatory policies. In order to identify the factors affecting drinking behavior, we conducted a multilevel logistic regression analysis with high-risk drinking and current drinking as dependent variables. Individual-level data provided by 2015 community health survey from respondents of urban residents, and regional level data provided by the National Statistical office. The variables such as age, education level, and income level were used as individual level variables and the number of basic living allowances, divorce rate, and the number of pubs were used as community level variables. According to the research results, after controlling all variables, the number of bar, retail per $1km^2$ in residential area effect on current drinking. But, they are not effect on high risk drinking. In the high risk drinking, only the divorce rate effect on drinking behavior. As a result of the stratified analysis, there was no difference in the current drinking. But, it shows that the higher the number of retail stores and the total alcohol availability, the higher risk drinking behavior in the 60s. The results of this study suggest that policies aimed not only on individuals but also on the local environment are necessary.

  • We empirically investigated how differentials in gasoline prices influenced consumers' shopping behaviors at the gas pump. Among dimensions of many gas shopping behaviors, we focused on consumer decisions of purchase quantity and locations and found that price differentials across regions had statistically significant and negative effects on two consumers' decisions. Our findings provide important implications for the future research on gasoline demand and make a substantial contribution to empirical knowledge about how consumers make purchases in the gasoline retail industry.

  • Focusing on the relationship marketing between the Department Store and customers, this study presents the following variables: three influential variables such as characteristics of the persons who serve, image property of the shop, and relationship-oriented property; mediation variables such as trust and satisfaction, relationship quality to maintain consistent relationship with customers; and achievement variable such as Loyalty to Department Store. And it examines and analyses the relations between the variables to present suggestions on marketing strategies of the Loyalty to Department Store through relationship marketing.

  • The purpose of this paper examines the way the potential for increased procyclicality may arise in Korea according to the introduction of Basel II based on the empirical results of U.K. and Spain. Because of the limited retail banking data, the correlations between risk-weighted assets corresponding to the denominator of the capital ratio and procyclicality, and capital ratio and the procyclicality are analyzed in Korea. As a result, there is a high possibility that the procyclicality may occur in Korea. However, there are limitations in judging the existence of the procyclicality for the capital in Korea only based on those correlations. In the future, in case more of retail banking data are accumulated, the procyclicality in Korea should be examined based on the systematic model like the cases in England and Spain. Lastly, the policy implications are derived based on the calculation process of the regulatory capital(Pillar I), the process of the Financial Authorities(Pillar II), and the market discipline(Pillar III).

A Study on Distribution and Packaging of Korean Fresh Ginsengs in Domestic Markets (국내 수삼의 유통 및 포장 실태)

  • 국내수삼의 유통 및 포장실태를 조사하고자 1998년 9월 중순부터 1999년 2월까지 생산지로 금산, 풍기, 강화와 소비지로 경동시장과 S 플라자에서 조사하였다. 유통은 수확 후 생산지역의 수삼센터로 운송되고 여기서 중간거래상에 의해 도매가 이루어지며 이를 소비지인 서울 경동시장이나 백화점, 센타내 소매점으로 운반, 소비자에게 판매되고 있다. 수감 거래시 거래단위는주로 차단위 (1차는 750g)가 사용되고 있고 백화점에서 g단위를 사용하고 있었다. 등급은 년근, 색택, 크기 및 모양에 따라서 특대, 특, 대, 중, 소 등으로 나뉘어 거래되고 있다. 같은 등급에서도 수삼개체간의 크기에 따른 편차가 적게는 17%에서 많게는 130%까지 차이가 나므로 수삼의 등급화가 시급히 이루어져야 함을 알 수 있었다. 수삼의 포장실태는 도매단계에서는 10~20kg 용 골판지 상자를 주로 사용하고 PP마대를 일부사용하고 있으며 소비자 단계에서는 PE 봉투가 주로 사용되며 선물용으로 평량 350~390 g 짜리 마닐라판지로 만든 상자를 사용하고 있다. 이와 같이 수삼의 포장은 소비자보다는 거래를 위한 것이며 소비자용도 적정 포장화가 필요하며, 규격포장 개발을 통해서 수삼유통 현대화가 이루어져야 된다고 사료되었다.

Microbiological Evaluations of Retail and Refrigerated Chickens in Winter (겨울철 소매점 및 냉장 닭고기의 미생물학적 평가)

  • Aerobic plate counts(APC) gram-negative bacterial counts (GNC) and sensory evaluations on chic-ken carcasses during retail and refrigerated storages (3$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$ and 1$0^{\circ}C$) were evaluated. APC and GNC on whole chicken in retail store after storage of 7 days at 3$\pm$1$^{\circ}C$ increased to 3.11 and 3.89 log units com-pared to the initial controls. APC and GNC on whole chicken after storage of 7 days at 1$0^{\circ}C$ increased to 5.43 and 5.03 log units. Sensory scores of chicken carcasses obtained from retail store were in the "liked less" category after storage of 7 days compared to fresh controls. These results indicated that chicken carcasses during refrigerated (1$0^{\circ}C$) storages rapidly allowed the growth of aerobic spoilage bacteria dur-ing storage period which cluld not be microbiologically acceptable after of 7 days of 7 days.

The Analyses of the Operational Efficiency and Efficiency Factors of Retail Stores Using DEA Model (DEA 모형을 활용한 소매점의 효율성 및 결정요인 분석)

  • This paper analyzes the operational efficiency of 91 individual retail stores in Seoul by a two-step procedure. In the first step, a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model is used to identify the efficiency scores. Three inputs (store size, number of items, and number of employees) and two outputs (sales and number of customers) are used for the efficiency measurement. In the second step, a Tobit regression model is used to identify the drivers of efficiency. DEA efficiency scores are used to test hypotheses on the impact of five independent variables, namely store age, number of items per store size, number of items per employee, trade area index, and number of competitors. Results of the Tobit analysis show that number of items per store size, number of items per employee, and number of competitors play a significant role in influencing the operational efficiency of retail stores. Managerial implications of the study are discussed.
