Development of a Sow Voice Analysis System for Forecasting Parturition Time (임신돈의 분만시기 예측을 위한 음성 분석 시스템 개발)

  • Pure voice characteristics of sow were analyzed to predict parturition time. These were analyzed by using oscilloscope and Sound Forge and the results showed that the voice frequency and amplitude of sow were in the range of 30∼2,500Hz and -35∼-75dB. According to the sound analysis results, the frequencies of sound appearance from farrowing sow in the farrowing pen for three days prior to delivery day and eight hours of prior to delivery day and eight hours of prior to time were around 85% and 46%, respectively of the total appearance during eight days to delivery. Forecasting of delivery time of farrowing sow using the number of sound occurrences showed a promising result such that those have been increased whenever the delivery time was approached. The forecasting success rates were 100% for both of one day and six hours prior to the actual delivery.

  • Sparse coding or independent component analysis (ICA) which is a holistic representation, was successfully applied to elucidate early auditor${\gamma}$ processing and to the task of sound classification. In contrast, parts-based representation is an alternative way o) understanding object recognition in brain. In this thesis we employ the non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) which learns parts-based representation in the task of sound classification. Methods of feature extraction from the spectro-temporal sounds using the NMF in the absence or presence of noise, are explained. Experimental results show that NMF-based features improve the performance of sound classification over ICA-based features.

A Method of Sound Segmentation in Time-Frequency Domain Using Peaks and Valleys in Spectrogram for Speech Separation (음성 분리를 위한 스펙트로그램의 마루와 골을 이용한 시간-주파수 공간에서 소리 분할 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for the frequency channel segmentation using peaks and valleys in spectrogram. The frequency channel segments means that local groups of channels in frequency domain that could be arisen from the same sound source. The proposed algorithm is based on the smoothed spectrum of the input sound. Peaks and valleys in the smoothed spectrum are used to determine centers and boundaries of segments, respectively. To evaluate a suitableness of the proposed segmentation algorithm before that the grouping stage is applied, we compare the synthesized results using ideal mask with that of proposed algorithm. Simulations are performed with mixed speech signals with narrow band noises, wide band noises and other speech signals.

The Effect of Temperature of Compost on the Germination Inhibition of Weed Seeds during Livestock Manure Composting (가축 분 퇴비화과정의 온도에 따른 잡초종자 발아억제 효과)

  • This study was carried out to assess the composting temperature effects on germination of curled dock and barnyard millet seeds. After the seeds wrapped in gauze were buried in the compost heap, the seeds were taken out under monitering the temperature for measuring germination rate at 1.5, 3, 10 and 20 days of composting. The germination rate of the seeds was directly related to the temperature of the compost heap regardless of the type of composting method. The seeds that buried in the compost for 1.5 days at a temperature of $60{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ were completely lost their germination ability. However, the germination rate of the seeds retained about 10% even after 20 days when compost temperature was below $51^{\circ}C$. Reulsting data suggests that, it is necessary to keep the compost temperature at least $55^{\circ}C$ for more than 3 days in order to suppress the germination of the seeds. On the other hand, if the temperature of the compost rises by $60{\sim}70^{\circ}C$, the seeds will lose their gemination ability with in 1.5 days. In conclusion, aerobic composting would be more effective in suppressing germination ability of curled dock seed and barnyard millet seeds.

A Study on Antioxidant Activity of Ethanol Extract from Rumex crispus and Metal Adsorptivity of it's Root (소리쟁이 에탄올 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 뿌리의 중금속 흡착능에 관한 연구)

  • Antioxidant activities such as reducing power, electron donating ability(EDA) and oxidation stability of Rumex crispus extracts with ethanol were examined, and adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) with dried Rumex crispus powder in aqueous solution was experimented. Extraction yields based on the soluble solid contents ranged 1.9% to 3.0%, and were inversely proportional to solvent ratio but proportional to extraction temperature. Reducing power and EDA were also increased with extraction temperature but decreased with solvent ratio. These were corresponded to 86.4% and 91.0% of ascorbic acid reducing power and EDA, respectively, on 20 folds of solvent ratio and $75^{\circ}C$ Oxidation stability of Rumex crispus extracts on the corn seed oil was 86~91.3% of butylated hydroxytoluene. Pb(II) adsorptivity of Rumex crispus was higher than Cd(II), and adsorption rate of Pb(II) was 88% in 20 ppm concentration and 60min.

Theory of Acoustic Quanta and its Application on Sound Design (음향 양자 이론의 사운드 디자인적 응용)

  • Acoustic Quanta, which British Physicist Dennis Gabor created, is the theoretical background for granular synthesis and has influenced many computer music artists and sound designers. Acoustic Quanta is a very short sound burst, lasting only 1 to 100 ms. Granular synthesis is a sound synthesis technique which slices original sound into sound grains and re-combines them into a new acoustic event. Concept of sound grain is borrowed from the acoustic quanta. Granular Synthesis can make very unique sound, so that it can be useful in many ways, especially in sound design. This paper presents concept of acoustic quanta and granular synthesis. It then discusses making a synthesizer as an implementation of synchronous granular synthesis and its applications on sound design. As a result, the duration of acoustic quanta should range between 0.239 and 33.367 ms, in consideration of audible frequencies, which is different from the original concept of the acoustic quanta.

Effects of Butorphanol on Behavior after Intestinal Anastomosis in Dogs (Butorphanol의 투여가 장문합술 후 개의 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate non-invasive behavioral pain assessment of dogs after surgery, and the analgesic effects of butorphanol after intestinal anastomosis in dogs. In this study, five dogs in the Control Group were anesthetized, but did not undergo surgery. Five dogs in the Analgesic Group were undergone intestinal anastomosis and treated with butorphanol. Five dogs in the Non-analgesic Group were also undergone intestinal anastomosis without analgesic treatment. The dogs in the Analgesic Group received butorphanol (0.4 mg/kg, IM) before and immediately after operation, while dogs in Control and Non-analgesic Groups received isovolumetric doses of sterile saline. The behavior of dogs were videotaped for 400 mins after anesthesia, during which time a researcher interacted with the dog once per each 80 mins. At each interaction, the researcher recorded behavioral pain score, using University of Melbourne Pain Scale. Interactive and non-interactive behaviors were observed and quantitated by a single observer using focal continuous sampling method. Vocalizations were obtained during 400 mins after anesthesia, and duration of call, intensity, pitch, 1-4 Formant were analyzed. Surgery affected an increasing of pain score. During interactions with researcher, greeting behaviors were decreased after surgery. Differences between Analgesic group given analgesic or that given a placebo drug were readily understood using quantitative behavioral measurements and vocalization. Significant difference between Analgesic group given butorphanol or that the given placebo drug was apparent(p< 0.05).

  • 안전을 담당하는 관리자로서 때로는 근로자분들에게 싫은 소리를 해야 하고 때로는 언성을 높이며 다투기도 해야 했던 때가 있었습니다. 같은 직장 안에서 다른 동료나 근로자와 원활한 관계를 유지하고 싶지 않은 사람은 아마 한 명도 없을 것입니다. 하지만 안전관리자라는 직업을 택한 이상 안전하지 않은 행동이나 상태를 보고 '좋은 게 좋은 거라' 넘길 수는 없는 노릇일 것입니다. 안전사고로 생명을 잃거나 영원히 불구로 힘든 나날을 살아가는 동료를 옆에서 지켜봐야 했던 경험이 아마 지금의 제가 조금이라도 더 열심히 제 일에 최선을 다하도록 하는 원동력이 되고 있지 않을까 합니다. 앞으로도 제가 선택한 이 일에 보람과 사명감을 갖고 끝까지 최선을 다하도록 하겠습니다.
