Silicon Melt Infiltration of Reaction-Bonded Silicon Carbide (반응소결 탄화규소에서 실리콘의 침윤향상)

  • Reaction-Bonded Silicon Carbide (RBSC) Ceramics were fabricated which satisfies the maximum packing density of silicon carbide skeleton in the green compacts. Such a high packing density induced incomplete infiltration during reaction-sintering; forms linear void around the interface of large alpha silicon carbide powders. During reaction-sintering, the limited extraction and entrapped gas induced by residue oxide was considered to be a reason of linear void formation. In order to improve infiltration behavior in the highly packed preform, the pre-treatment methods for residue oxide removal were proposed.

  • 캐패시터, 액추에이터와 같이 MIM (Metal-Insulator-Metal) 구조를 갖는 디바이스는 높은 소결온도를 갖는 세라믹 유전체/압전체와 고온 내산화성이 낮은 금속 전극의 적층 형태로 인하여 동시 열처리 공정에 있어서 많은 제약이 따른다. 본 연구에서는 소결온도를 대폭 낮춘 저온 소결용 PZT 압전체 테이프를 니켈 금속 포일에 적층하여 동시 열처리를 통하여 소결을 시도하였다. 동시 열처리된 MIM 디바이스의 세라믹과 금속 전극 계면의 미세구조 및 성분 분석을 통하여 계면 반응 기구를 확인하였고, 계면 반응층이 디바이스의 특성에 미치는 영향에 대한 정량적 분석을 수행하였다. 또한 열처리 시간에 따른 계면 반응층의 변화를 관찰하고 반응층의 변화가 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 니켈 이외에 니켈 합금인 INCONEL 718과 PZT 세라믹과의 동시 소성을 시도하여 니켈, INCONEL 두 금속 기판과 PZT 사이에 생성되는 계면 반응층의 미세구조와 특성의 차이점을 비교하였고 디바이스로서 사용하기 위한 적합성 여부를 확인하였다.

Thermoelectric Properties of the Hot-pressed n-Type $Bi_2({Te_{0.85}}{Se_{0.15}})_3$ Alloy Prepared by Mechanical Alloying (기계적 합금화 공정을 이용하여 제조한 n형 $Bi_2({Te_{0.85}}{Se_{0.15}})_3$ 가압소결체의 열전특성)

  • Thermoelectric properties of the $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ alloy, prepared by mechanical alloying and hot pressing, were investigated with the variation of the hot-pressing temperature ranging from $300^{\circ}C$ to $550^{\circ}C$. Contrary to the p-type behavior of single crystal, the hot-pressed $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ alloy exhibited n-type conduction without addition of donor dopant. When the $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ powders were annealed in $(50{\%}\;H_2+50{\%}\;Ar)$ atmosphere, the hot-pressed specimens exhibited a positive Seebeck coefficient due to the reduction of the electron concentration by removal of the oxide layer on the powder surface and annealing-out of the excess Te vacancies. Figure-of-merit of the hot-pressed $Bi_2(Te_{0.85}Se_{0.15})_3$ alloy was improved by hot pressing at temperatures above $450^{\circ}C$, and the maximum value of $1.92{\times}10^{-3}/K$ was obtained for the specimen hot-pressed at $550^{\circ}C$.

Properties of Thick Films Prepared with $V_2O_5$-doped Ferrite Pastes ($V_2O_5$ 도핑한 페라이트 페이스트 후막 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of V₂O/sub 5/ addition on physical and magnetic properties of NiCuZn ferrite for multi-layer chip inductors. NiCuZn ferrite pastes doped with 0, 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 wt% V₂O/sub 5/ were prepared and samples of ferrite sheets were prepared by the screen printing method. They were sintered at 870, 880, 890 and 900℃, and then their physical and magnetic properties were analyzed. After sintering at 870℃, the sintered density of the ferrite sheet doped with 0.5wt% V₂O/sub 5/ showed the highest value to 5.08g/cm³due to the best densification by the liquid phase sintering, while the microstructures of ferrite sheets doped with 0.1 and 0.3 wt% V₂O/sub 5/ showed and inhibited grain growth. Irrespective of the sintering temperature, the initial permeability of ferrite sheet doped with 0.5 wt% V₂O/sub 5/ was highest and after sintering beyond 880℃, the quality factor of 0.3 wt% V₂O/sub 5/-doped sample appeared to be highest.

  • The sintering properties of hydroxyapatite isolated from tuna bone and hydroxyapatite-containing wollastonite sintered by solid-state reaction was investigated. As the sinterability of hydroxyapatite dependent upon the particle size by dry milling, it showed a sintering. But the hydroxyapatite-containing wollastonite was appeared good sinterability. On X-ray measurements, the major phases of hydroxyapatite-containing wollastonite by solid state reaction at $1250^{\circ}C$ were identified as hydroxyapatite and pseudowollastonite(${\alpha}-CaSiO_3$). And the phases appeared as whitlockite [$Ca_3(PO_4)_2$] by decomposition of hydroxyapatite at higher temperature above $1250^{\circ}C$. The shapes of microstructure on SEM images changed from porous to dense bulk by elevating temperature. The mean bending strength of hydroxyapatite-containing wollastonite sintered by solid-state reaction at $1300^{\circ}C$ was about 18 MPa, it was close to the cancellous bone's maximum strength, 20 MPa.

  • Aluminium secondary butoxide(ASB)를 출발물질로 하여 졸-겔방법에 의해 소결거 동에 미치는 $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed의 첨가효과에 따른 알루미나의 저온소결 가능성과 알루미나의 상전이에 대하여 TEM, DTA, XRD, FT-IR등으로 고찰을 하였다. TEM 분석결과 초기 생 성물인 boehmite가 비정질에서 단결정질로 진행되어 가고 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 DTA 분석결과 $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed의 첨가한 경우 seed의 함량이 증가함에 따라 상전이 온도는 점차 낮아졌으며 약 0.4wt%일 때 seed를 첨가하지 않은 시료의 전이온도(약 1126$^{\circ}C$)에 비하여 약 7$0^{\circ}C$ 저하된 약 1056$^{\circ}C$로나타났으며 그 이상의 seedcja가에 있어서는 전이온도에 크게 영향을 나타내지 않았다. 또한 XRD분석결과 $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed를 첨가하지 않은 경우 110$0^{\circ}C$이 상의 온도에서 $\alpha$상이 생성되었음을 알수 있었다. 또한 100$0^{\circ}C$이상의 온도에서 $\alpha$상이 생성 되었음을 나타내는 Al-O 흡수특성 피크가 400~1000cm-1 범위에서 나타내고 있는 것을 FT-IR 분석결과에서도 확인할수 있었다. 그리고 $\alpha$-Al2O3 seed를 약 0.4wt% 첨가시 900~ 95$0^{\circ}C$에서 $\alpha$상이 형성됨을 관찰할 수 있었다.

  • The effects of glass addition on the low-temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of $BaO-Nd_2O_3-TiO_2$ dielectric ceramics were studied. When 10∼13 wt% of lithium borosilicate glass was added, the sintering temperature decreased from 130$0^{\circ}C$to 850-$900^{\circ}C$relative density of more than 97% was obtained. When the sample was sintered at $850^{\circ}C$ with 10 wt% of glass, the dielectric properties of $\epsilon_r{\ge}54$, $Q{\times}f_0{\ge}2300$, and $\tau_f{\ge}+8ppm/^{\circ}C$ were obtained.

Effects of Ceramic Processing on the Microstructure and Electronic Properties of Low Loss Mn-Zn Ferrite (제조 공정이 Mn-Zn 페라이트의 미세구조와 전기적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of ceramic processing was investigated on the microstructure and electronic properties of low loss Mn-Zn ferrite. Addition of CaO and SiO2 to calcined powder rather than to raw materials mixtured resulted in finer-grained microstructure. Higher oxygen pressure during sintering caused microstructural inhomogeneity and the increase in power loss and disaccommodation factor. Relatively low power loss was found for sintering up to 130$0^{\circ}C$ from powders calcined at high temperature and milled shortly. It was caused by slow densification rate and normal grain growth up to 130$0^{\circ}C$. Calcination at low temperature and prolonged milling enhanced den-sification, which gave a fine grained microstructure and low powder loss at sintering temperture below 120$0^{\circ}C$. Sintering temperature above 125$0^{\circ}C$, however, showed abnormal grain growth.

Mixed Grinding Effect on Kaolinite-Aluminum Trihydroxide Mixture and Its Influence on Mullite Formation (Kaolinite-Aluminum Trihydroxide의 혼합물의 혼합분쇄효과 및 Mullite의 생성에 미치는 영향)

  • The present paper describes the effect of dry mixed grinding on kaolinite-aluminum trihydroxide mixture with a planetary ball mill before sintering and its influence on mullite formation during sintering. The size reduction of the mixture is market in the early stage of grinding and the obtained fine particles agglomerate subsequently with an increase of grinding time. The crystal structure of the mixture is collapsed easily into an amorphous one by planetary ball milling, of which amount increases with an increase of grinding time. Only mullite phase except for anatase as an inherent impurity in kaolinite appeared in the sintered body of the mixtures with mixed grinding as relatively lower temperature 1523K, while corundum, cristobalite, and Al-Si spinel phases, besides mullite were formed in the sintered body of the mixture without mixed grinding. Therefore, the mixed grinding treatment is very effective to improve the homogeneous mixing and disp-ersion of the mixture of raw materials on a micro scale and to decrease the thermal decomposition tem-perature by crystal structure change of them so as to obatin direct preparation of mullite with high purity at relatively low temperature.

Effects of gas pressure sintering (GPS) conditions on the mechanical properties of silicon nitride (가스압 소결(GPS) 조건이 질화규소의 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • $Si_3N_4$ powder with 2 wt% $Al_2O_3$ and 6 wt% $Y_2O_3$additives was gas pressure sintered (GPS). Characterization of the mechanical properties was compared with sintering conditions (temperature, pressure, time). Based on experimental result , the optimal condition of gas pressure sintering was found at $1900^{\circ}C$, 3 MPa for 1 hour. It is assumed that mechanical properties were degraded due to the grain coasening effects with increasing temperature or holding time. However, the grain size was decreased with increasing pressure, resulted in better strength, but lower fracture toughness. Present results suggested that optimization of processing parameters was impotant for better mechanical properties of $Si_3N_4$.
