  • Tencel is a high quality cellulosic fiber, which is controlled and processed by an environmentally sound route. But, the point about tencel and the reason why it achieves its unique touch in its finished state is that it is a fibrillating fiber. That means it can take a great deal of punishment during the finishing process, which raise the fiber to produce the characteristics handle, without destroying the cloth. The aim of cellulase treatment is to improve appearence of tencel, plus the fiber ends protruding from the fabric surface. But enzymatic hydrolysis can weakens the fiber ends and changes the properties of fabrics. This study examined about the changes of properties according to several conditions and effect of cellulase to fibril of tencel. The results are as follows. The weight loss was occurred, tensile strength was decreased, softness was increased. And cellulase treatment reduced amount of fibril.

  • Fibrillation is caused by wet abrasion and occurs during scouring treatments, domestic laundering and wet finishing. So, for clean fabrics, fibrillation must either be prevented or removed after it has occurred. In this study, we researched the influence thickness of tencel on fibrillation occurrence. And the three methods of SEM photograph, reflectance values and gray level values were used in order to present proper evaluation method for fibrillation. The results are as follows. The thickness of tencel was high affected with occurrence of fibrillation, that is, as the thickness of fabrics thicker, the fibrillation occurer. And all method applicated as fibrillation evaluation method very effected without big difference, but they come into be a little question in the side of exactness.

  • This study has examined weight loss rates of Iyoceu, lyocell/cotton, cotton that were treated with cellulase under different concentration, time, temperature and pH. and compared physical properties changes of tensile strength, drape, moisture absorbency, shrinkage and dyeability. The notable results are summarized as follows: Lyocell was in need of pretreatment by NaOH in the side of weight loss, tensile strength and dyeability. Weight loss rates of cellulose fabrics by cellulase treatment were in the order of cotton > lyocell/cotton > lyocell at the same conditions. In case of lyocell and lyocell/cotton, weight loss rates showed up lower than cotton, while strength retention decreased, drape and strength flexibility were highly improved after cellulase treatment.

  • Effect of the cellulase treatment on the physicochemical properties of three varieties of rice (chucheongbyeo, chosengtongilbyeo and IR 36) and the texture of cooked rice were investigated. The swelling power and solubility of the rice flours were increased and amylographic viscosities, especially cold viscosities were decreased by cellulase treatment in all varieties. Gel chromatography of soluble carbohydrates from cellulase-treated rice flours on sepharose 2B-CL showed a singificant increase of low molecular weight $(10^{4})$ fraction which might be produced upon hydrolysis in endosperm cell wall constituents. The hardness of cooked rices prepared from cellulose-treated rices significantly decreased.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of cellulase treatment on crease resistance of cotton. Cotton fabrics was treated with cellulase under different concentration at $50^{\circ}C$ for 40 min. Also to compare the effect of DMDHEU treatment, DMDHEU treatment was conducted before and after cellulase treatment, also with cellulase. Weight loss, crease resistance and tentile strength of each samples were measured and compared. Maximum weight loss showed at 1g/l con. with 40 min. treatment. Cellulase enzyme treatment was more effective than DMDHEU in the crease resistance and tensile strength. Crease resistant of cotton which treated under different condition with cellulase and DMDHEU showed in the order of cellulase+DMDHEU> cellulase> DMDHEU treatment. Also, tensile strength showed in the order of cellulase> cellulase+DMDHEU> DMDHEU. Among those treatment conditions, condition which treated with cellulase considered more effective to increase crease resistance while keeping tensile strength too.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the backstaining generated during cellulase treatment for indigo-dyed denim. The results were as follows. 1. High generating conditions of the backstaining were as same as best conditions for cellulose activity (temperature at 6$0^{\circ}C$, pH at about 4.5~5.5, treatment time at 40 min. and enzyme concentration at 2g/l). And also, liquor ratio, sample weight and repeated-use cycle of liquor had influenced on the backstaining. 2. The backstaining was decreased about 30~40% when various additives, that is, surfactant, anti-backstaining agent (C.M.C) and softners were added. 3. A application of image processing on the backstaining evaluation was more effective than method by reflectance, particullarly in out of level fabrics. In image analysis, the backstainings were measured by histogram between 256 gray levels.

  • Recently, eco-friendly processing has been focused in the textile industry in order to reduce environmental pollutions. Applications of enzyme technology to the textile industry are an example of more environmentally compatible processes. However, there is not enough quantity of referring to denim fabric subjected to enzymatic treatment. In this study, depending on pH, temperature, cellulase concentration, and treatment time, the weight loss of denim fabrics was examined. Characteristics of enzyme-treated fabrics were measured by tearing strength, stiffness, and K/S values. The effect of a non-ionic surfactant (Triton X-100) on characteristics of the enzyme-treated fabrics was evaluated. The cellulase treatment condition on the cotton fabric were optimized to pH 6.0, $50^{\circ}C$, 1%(o.w.f.), and 60minutes. Characteristics of denim fabrics by cellulase treatment in the presence of Triton X-100 did not improve because Triton-X inhibited the activity of enzyme.
