  • Since preclinical positron emission tomography imaging is performed on small animals that are very small compared to the human body, a detector with excellent spatial resolution is required. For this purpose, a system was constructed using a detector using small scintillation pixels. Since the size of the currently developed and used photosensors is limited, excellent spatial resolution can be obtained when the minimum scintillation pixel and maximum array are used. In this study, the size of the photosensor is fixed and various scintillation pixel arrays are configured to match the size of the scintillation pixels, so that no overlap occurs in the flood image and the maximum scintillation pixel array in which all scintillation pixels are distinguished. For this purpose, DETECT2000, which can simulate a detector module composed of a scintillator and an photosensor, was used. A photosensor consisting of a 4 × 4 array of 3 mm × 3 mm pixels was used, and the scintillation pixel array was configured from 8 × 8 to 13 × 13, and simulations were performed. A flood image was constructed using the data obtained from the photosensor pixel, and the maximum scintillation pixel array that does not overlap the image was found through the flood image and the profile. As a result, the size of the scintillation pixel array in which all scintillation pixels are imaged without overlapping each other in the flood image was 11 × 11.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm that estimates three dimensional array shape calibration about the bottom-mounted sensor array. under the assumption that the active sources are in the far-field with unknown positions. Under some assumptions. we calculate the sensor positions via an algebraic solutions of a least squares problem that the linear equations are related to the sensor positions and directions or arrival. We give examples of algorithm performance from both computer simulations and sea test. We also illustrate the performance of sensor positions estimation as a function of time delay estimation variance and the distribution of the localizing sources.

  • A single near-field sounde source bearing and ranging method based on a independent doublet array is proposed. In the common case of bearing estimation method, unform linear array or uniform circular array are used. It is constrained retaining aperture because of array structure to estimate the distance of the sound source. Recent using independent doublet array sound source's bearing and distance esmtimation method is proposed by wide aperture. It is limited to the case doublets are located on a straight line. In this paper, we generalize the case and estimate the localization of a sound source in the various array structure. The proposed algorithm was verified performance through simulation.

  • In modern passive sonar systems, a towed array sensor is used to minimize the effects of own ship noise and to get a higher SNR. The thin and long towed array sensor can be guided in a non-linear form according to the maneuvering of tow-ship. If this change of the array shape is not considered, the performance of beamformer may deteriorate. In order to properly beamform the elements in the array, an accurate estimate of the array shape is required. Various techniques exist for estimating the shape of the linear array. In the case of a method using a heading sensor, the estimation performance may be degraded due to the effect of heading sensor noise. As means of removing this potential error, weighted polynomial fitting technique for estimating array shape is developed here. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed method, we conducted computer simulation. From the experiments, it was confirmed that the proposed method is more robust to noise than the conventional method.

  • In order to maximize the matching ratio between the scintillation pixel and the photosensor of the PET detector using a small number of photosensor, various arrays of scintillation pixels and four photosensors were used. The array of scintillation pixels consisted of six cases from 6 × 6 to 11 × 11. The distance between the photosensors was applied equally to all scintillation pixels, and the arrangement was expanded by reducing the size of scintillation pixel. DETECT2000 capable of light simulation was used to acquire flood images of the designed PET detectors. At the center of each scintillation pixel array, light generated through the interaction between extinction radiation and scintillation pixels was generated, and the light was detected through for four photosensors, and then a flood image was reconstructed. Through the reconstructed flood image, we found the largest arrangement in which all the scintillation pixels can be distinguished. As a result, it was possible to distinguish all the scintillation pixels in the flood image of 8 × 8 scintillation pixel array, and from the 9 × 9 scintillation pixel flood image, the two edge scintillation pixels overlapped and appeared in the image. At this time, the matching ratio between the scintillation pixel and the photosensor was 16:1. When a PET system is constructed using this detector, the number of photosensors used is reduced and the cost of the oveall system is expected to be reduced through the simplification of the signal processing circuit.

  • Delamination damage at a bolt hole in a composite stiffened panel was detected using a built-in piezoelectric active sensor array. Various signal processing techniques were used to detect an invisible small scale delamination around a fastener hole due to localized transverse loading. A built-in piezoelectric sensor array was used to generate diagnostic signals and to measure response signals. Then, the response signals were processed to extract damage-sensitive features. Damage indexes were calculated to estimate the severity and location of the damage from the features.

  • This study develops a simulator for determining the sonar sensor configuration of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) based on a scenario, in order for UUVs to conduct an effective anti-submarine warfare (ASW). First, we analyze the missions and operational concepts of UUVs in the field of ASW, and then select a Hold-at-Risk scenario as the one with the highest priority. Next, for modeling the components of a simulator, the motion, acoustic characteristic, and environment condition of the platforms (UUV and target submarine) are specified. Especially, based on the beam pattern of each sonar configuration considered in this paper, the passive sonar equation is used to verify target detection, and we further estimate the azimuth and elevation of the target using amplitude and phase of the received signal, respectively. The simulation results show the performance tendency depending on the sonar sensor configurations of a UUV, and the simulator provides a high applicability under various scenarios.

  • Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm with efficient equation for angular innovation, and Ryu's algorithm has good feature that it has no data association problem. Ryu's algorithm is only applicable to linear sensor array, because its efficient equation for angular innovation is derived in case of using a linear sensor array. In a many fields studying multiple target angle-tracking, the various shapes of sensor array are used. In sonar, a cylindrical sensor array is as much used as a linear sensor array, a example is hull mounted sonar. In this paper, Ryu's algorithm is modified to be applicable to cylindrical sensor array, and the tracking performance of a modified algorithm is verified by various computer simulations.
