In accordance with the distinction of the nature, the second factor, that is the distinction of the emotion is determined and the united distinction of the nature and emotion presents the Sasang constitution. 2. The operation of the nature and emotion is the movement of Qi by the property of Yin and Yang and that is the phenomenon presented by the logical and scientifical law. 3. The ontology of Lee Je-ma is Qi-monism. 4. Four emotion(Sorrow, Anger, Joy, Presure) are not partional concept of the emotion but total concept which include all of it.

  • Objective The management of psychological distress in patients with cancer is a major concern in clinical practice. In this paper, we discussed how to apply the controlling methods of Seong-Jeong (性情) and covetous desire (心慾) of Sasang constitutional medicine to patients with cancer. Methods We investigated the controlling methods of Seong-Jeong (性情) and covetous desire (心慾) through the literature of " Gyukchigo (格致藁)", "Donguisusebowon-Sasangchobongyun (東醫壽世保元 四象草本卷)", "Donguisusebowon (東醫壽世保元) and "Dongmuyougo (東武遺稿)", and presented the controlling methods of Seong-Jeong (性情) and covetous desire (心慾) for patients with cancer based on the clinical experience. Results We identified the equilibrium and harmony (中節) of sorrow-anger-joy-pleasure (喜怒哀樂) is the basis of treatment and suggested 'understanding of the others (知人)', 'understanding of the diseases (知病)' and 'knowing and acting (知行)' as methods to control of Seong-Jeong (性情) and covetous desire (心慾). The 'understanding of the others (知人)' and 'understanding of the diseases (知病)' could reduce the psychological distress. The 'knowing and acting (知行)' encourages the patients to overcome the covetous desire (心慾) and have a positive attitude to life and disease. Conclusion The controlling method of Seong-Jeong (性情) and covetous desire (心慾) of Sasang constitutional medicine could help cancer treatment controlling the psychological distress of patients with cancer, and could impact positively on the view of life and disease.

  • Objectives : In order to understand and apply Lee Jema's emotion control method, the basic concepts of his nature-temperament theory was examined. Lee's thoughts on emotion control, and the basic principles of his method were deduced from this process. Methods : The meaning and set-up of basic concepts in his nature-temperament theory as written in text such as the Donguisusebowon, Gyeokchigo, and Donguisusebowon Sasang Chobongwon were examined, and compared with similar concepts of Confucianism. Results & Conclusions : Out of concepts set by Lee, the Ae(哀)-No(怒)-Hui(喜)-Rak(樂) nature-temperament is the condition for emotion control. Junghwa(中和) is the aim of emotion control according to different stages of emotional expression, and Jiin(知人) is the precondition for emotion control. Lee's basic principles of emotion control could be summarized as following. First, it must be done with the aim for 'Goodness[善]' to be manifested. Second, it must be based on clear understanding of 'Insa(人事)'. Lastly, Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) and Hoyeonjiri(浩然之理) must be consistently cultivated for stable emotion control.

Methods : The Dong-Mu's interpretation on the first chapter of "The Doctrine of Mean(中庸)", and the related contents of Nature and Emotion(性情) in his literature such as "Gyukchigo(格致藁)", "Donguisusebowon-Sasang chobongyun(東醫壽世保元四象草本卷)" and "Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)" were reviewed. 3. Results and Conclusions : 1. Dong-Mu reinterpreted the concepts about 'Providence(天命) and Human Nature(人性)', 'Not-yet-intentional state(未發) and Intentional state(已發)', 'Nature and Mind(性情)' and 'Equilibrium and Harmony(中和)' in "The Doctrine of Mean", and used these concepts as logical tools in explanation of his thoughts of Human being and medical theory. 2. The generating principle of Nature and Mind(性情) presented as sorrow, anger, joy and pleasure is 'the Principle of Human nature(性理)', which is embodied as 'the Principle of Organ(臟理)' in "Donguisusebowon". The Principle of Organ(臟理) is originated from Heart and lie at lung, spleen, liver and kidney as the form of Four Virtue(四德). 3. The Principle of Organ(臟理) has the position of superintendence and is the generating principle of Nature and Emotion(性情), by which the structural and functional variations between different constitutional types are formed. 4. Dong-Mu's newly established concept of Nature and Emotion(性情) is the core logic in his idea of physiology, pathology and self-cultivation.

The pursuit of Shape-Image Medicine (形象醫學) and the Symptoms of shape - Symptoms of disease (形置病證). • A Woolen carpet from the late Joseon Dynasty was unearthed in the process of repairing Seongjeonggak in Changdeokgung. Since relics are rarer than documentary records, the woolen carpet is highly valued as a relics. It is presumed to have been woven in the late 19th or early 20th century because there is a record of repairing Seongjeonggak in 1907. In the carpet, a pattern is made by inserting colored yarn dyed yellow and red onto a reddish-purple ground weave. The selvage of the woolen carpet used cotton thread, and jute is used for the warp and weft of the ground weave. The colored patterns is made of wool in the form of loop pile. Cut piles may appear occasionally when the colored yarn changes, but are almost invisible from the surface because they are pressed tightly with a shuttered weft. Making carpets with jute and wool is thought to be influenced by the Brussels carpets of the mid-18th century. Furthermore, the woolen carpet is torn and the pattern is completely unclear; however, it is understandable that the pattern is partially repeated. Microscopic and Fourier transform-Infrared spectrometer(FT-IR) analyses were performed for the above investigation. To identify the dyes used in relics, we compared them with natural dyed fabric samples based on chromaticity measurements and Ultraviolet/Visible spectrophotometer(UV-Vis) analysis. These analyses revealed that the woolen carpet's dyed green yarn did not use indigo, and reddish-purple ground weave is estimated to have used Caesalpinia sappan.

  • Biodiversity informatics applies information technology methods in organizing, accessing, visualizing, and analyzing primary biodiversity data and quantitative data management through the scientific names of accepted names and synonyms. We reviewed the GBIF data published by China, Japan, Taiwan, and internal institutes, such as NIBR, NIE, and KNA of the Republic of Korea, and assessed data in diverse aspects of data quality using BRAHMS software. Most data from four Asian countries have quality problems with the lack of data consistency and missing information on georeferenced data, collectors, collection date, and place names (gazetteers) or other invalid data forms. The major problem is that biodiversity management institutions in East Asia are using unstructured databases and simple spreadsheet-type data. Owing to the nature of the biodiversity information, if data relationships are not structured, it would be impossible to secure the data integrity of scientific names, human names, geographical names, literature, and ecological information. For data quality, it is essential to build data integrity for database management and training systems for taxonomists who are continuous data managers to correct errors. Thus, publishers in East Asia play an essential role not only in using specialized software to manage biodiversity data but also in developing structured databases and ensuring their integration and value within biodiversity publishing platforms.
