This study aimed to evaluate the courses of pediatric dentistry based on correlation analysis between scores of objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and related subjects for 79 fourth-year students. The score of theory were related to preclinical (r = 0.449, p = 0.000) and clerkship (r = 0.437, p = 0.000) each, but the scores of clerkship were not related to OSCE. To make the students skillful for clerkship, more professor's firsthand teaching on treating patients and adequate numbers of clinical professors are required. Patients who come to the university dental hospital prefer to be treated by professors rather than students. In these circumstances, educational conditions should be arranged by ensuring the number of professors for teaching students to improve their clinical competence through direct instruction and feedback to students. In addition, pragmatic improvement plans, which allow continuous education and evaluation about basic techniques to be examined in the clinical practice course, should be compromised with the more concrete evaluation of the curriculum in order to evaluate theoretical knowledge and technical trainings to be well exercised and deepened in the practical clinical field.

이번호에는 산란종계장으로 처음 우수종계장에 선정된 충청남도 당진군 합덕읍에 위치한 재성농장을 방문하였다. 재성농장은 조인(주) 직영농장으로 지난 6월 13일 HACCP적용작업장(업소 농장)으로 지정받았으며 종계장 검정성적 및 생산실적, 위생방역 수준, 경영개선사례, 사육입지조건을 평가하여 종계장의 자율경쟁을 유도하고 부화장 및 실용계 농장의 우수종란 병아리 선택지표 제공을 통한 편익을 도모하고자 실시된 2011 종계장 종합평가에서 지난 6월 17일 분양검정, 방역위생, 경영개선, 사육입지, 능력검정 실적 등에서 우수한 성적으로 2011 우수종계장 인증을 받았다.

In this paper, we selected 145 students from engineering college students who took P University's the Scholastic Level Assessment and registered the Basic Mathematics Class among the students who achieved 4th~7th grade in the mathematics B-type of the College Scholastic Ability Test. We compared and analyzed the correlation among the chosen students' grade for the College Scholastic Ability Test, test results of the Scholastic Level Assessment and mid-term test of the Basic Mathematics Subject, type of college entrance and actual condition survey of students in order to derive optimized teaching method for general mathematics subjects which can possibly increase the students' academic ability.

The authors studied depression using Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS), in the subjects of 3,499 male and 1,335 female college freshmen of Yeungnam University. The authors collected the reports of SDS during the periods from January to February, 1986, and applied ANOVA and t-test on depression scores in order to compare them between various psychosocial factors, and sexes. The results are as follows : There was significant difference in the mean averages of total depression scores between male and female students: male students scored 35.68+7.46, female students scored 38.93+7.26(P<0.001). The depression scores relating to the items of indecisiveness, psychomotor retardation, decreased libido, and diurnal variation were relatively higher in both groups. One hundred and sixty-one male students(4.6%) showed seriously high degree depression scores of 50 or higher, while one-hundred and seventeen female students(5.8%) showed the same scores. Female students attending in liberal arts showed higher level of depression scores(P<0.01). There was a strong tendency toward higher depression scores in the student who were dissatisfied with their home atmosphere, colleges, department and familiarity of parents, and those who had pessimistic views of self image in the past, present or future in both groups(P<0.001).

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of completeness of the learning-portfolio on academic achievement and program satisfaction of college students participating in the learning-portfolio program. For the aim, the evaluation tool of the learning-portfolio was developed. It assesses the report of goals of the course, diaries of studying, and reflection journals. The data of the grade in the course connected with learning-portfolio, grade point average(GPA), and satisfaction surveys of learning-portfolio program for 389 college students joining in learning-portfolio program were gathered. The findings showed that the score in the evaluation tool of the learning-portfolio significantly and positively affects the grade in the course connected with learning-portfolio, GPA and the satisfaction of learning-portfolio program. The results imply that it is important to evaluate the quality of the learning-portfolio in order to improve the effect of learning-portfolio program.

The authors studied depression in 5,869 college students (male: 3,893, female: 1,976) using Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). The results are as follows: 1) Female college students showed significantly higher total depression scores than male college students (p<0.001). 2) The items of confusion, indecisiveness, and psychomotor retardation were scored higher in both groups and the Items of suicidal rumination, psychomotor agitation, constipation and tachycardia were scored lower in both groups. 3) 18.2% of male college students showed rather serious depression level of score 50 or higher, while 33.1 % of female college students showed the same scores. 4) The psychosocial factors relating to pessimistic views to past, present & future self images showed significantly high depression scores. 5) The depression items of fatigue, irritability, palpitation, hopelessness & dissatisfaction and the anxiety Items of fatigue, anxiousness, tachycardia, apprehension, fear, and body aches & pain were correlated significantly over 0.40 of correlation coefficient.
