  • This study examined the effectiveness of policy measures in a growth management plan by analyzing empirically the influence of regulations and incentives in a non-urban growth management plan of Sejong City using the binomial logistic model. The parcel unit data related development location of Sejong City from 2012 to 2017 was used in the model. The analysis showed that time regulation in the growth management plan has a negative (-) impact on the spread of development, which means it is effective in slowing urban sprawl by lowering the profits of developers. The time regulation applied in Sejong City needs to be used actively in other cities in Korea to prevent urban sprawl. Nevertheless, floor ratio incentives had no influence in inducing development within the growth management area, which means a new incentive policy to meet the local characteristics is needed to strengthen the effectiveness of the growth management plan. This study is meaningful because it attempted an empirical analysis of the effects of the growth management plan at The National Territory Act, and this study could encourage further studies.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of local festivals on regional economic growth through empirical analysis of festival - economic growth relation. Theoretically, the theory of creative city is at the center of the discussion as to how festivals can influence economic growth. We used the regional convergence equation and used pooled OLS, fixed effect model, and GMM estimation method to analyze the effect of festivals on regional economic growth. According to this empirical analysis, the effect of festival variables such as the number of festivals and the festival period on economic growth has not been affected. This suggests that the effects of festivals on productivity and efficiency have not existed. This implies that the creative city theory that local festivals influence regional economic growth does not work well.

  • The central purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among learning and growth perspective, internal business process perspective, custom perspective, financial perspective, and general performance. To achieve this purpose, this study uses Kaplan and Norton's(1996) Balanced Scorecard Model theory. A field survey was undertaken through questionnaire sampling a population of construction companies. The data was collected from 185 firms in Korea for the analysis. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows; Theoretical consideration and empirical study indicate statistically significant relationship(F=7.68, p=0.000). Especially, Financial perspective appeared to mediate the relationship between non-financial perspectives and general performance. It concludes that Non-financial perspectives significant affect the financial perspective and general performance. But, there are several limitations and directions for future research that should be noted. The potential limitation of this study concerns sampling and for selection process. Future research needs to reduce potential bias by collecting data which allows multiple industries for a subset of the sample.

  • The population and employment of Cheongju have increased rapidly since the 1970s. This study examines the industrial employment change of Cheongju City and performs a shift-share analysis for the employment growth. The data used in this study are mainly from the 1985, 2000 and 2005 Census of Population and Housing. This study first explained the population change and industrial structure of Cheongju, then reviewed the development of shift-share models. Location quotients and specialization coefficients resulted from this study revealed the diversifying tendency in the urban industrial structure. Shift-share analysis employing the modified Arcelus model elucidated the favorable industrial mix and the competitiveness of industrial sectors. As a whole, Cheongju has advantageous industrial structure in comparison with that of the nation. All sectors of Cheongju except several services sectors grew faster than those of the nation and showed positive competitive effects. It is suggested to utilize more disaggregated industrial data in more fractured subperiod in order to pinpoint the competitive industries.

  • The Latent Growth Modeling(LGM) is known as the arising analysis method of longitudinal data and it could be classified into unconditional model and conditional model. Unconditional model requires estimated value of intercept and slope to complete a model of fitness. However, the existing LGM is in absence of a structured methodology to estimate slope when longitudinal data is neither simple linear function nor the pre-defined function. This study used Sequential Pattern of Association Rule Mining to calculate slope of unconditional model. The applied dataset is 'the Youth Panel 2001-2006' from Korea Employment Information Service. The proposed methodology was able to identify increasing fitness of the model comparing to the existing simple linear function and visualizing process of slope estimation.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the change trajectory and latent class types of self-esteem in first to fourth grade elementary school students. For the purpose, the Korean Children's Panel data were analyzed using potential growth model and the growth mixture model. As the results, the linear change model was selected as the most appropriate model. The change trajectory was found to increase slightly as the grade increased. In addition, four latent class groups were derived through: 'high level-maintenance,' 'low level-increase,' 'high level-decrease,' and 'low level-maintenance.' Most children were in the 'high level-maintenance' group, followed by 'high level-decrease,' 'low level-increase,' and 'low level-maintenance' groups. Therefore, based on the results of the study, we suggest that educational institutions and local communities pay attention to trends in elementary school students' self-esteem and provide appropriate support for students in each class.

  • We empirically examine the validity of second generation endogenous growth theory suing 21 OECD countries' panel data(1981~2011). Due to non-stationarity in all variables, we test the cointegrated relationships strongly supporting the semi-endogenous growth model. In the estimation of total factor productivity growth function, the growth of domestic and foreign R&D investment levels statistically significantly affect total factor productivity growth. R&D intensity, however, has significant impacts on the total factor productivity growth only in a few models, and international technology gap also has positive impacts on GDP growth. Thus the semi-endogenous growth model is relatively supported while fully endogenous growth model is weakly and occasionally supported in OECD countries. The policy implication of supporting the semi-endogenous growth model is that the sustaining growth requires increasing R&D expenditures.

  • The social network services have spread rapidly with new issues in terms of the security. The purpose of this study is to longitudinally verify the influence of relationships among online security, social network service, and smartphone expense. The analyses were conducted on panel data of SNS users from 2015 to 2017 based on the SEM methodologies. The results indicated that anxiety of online security had an effect on the SNS usage. In addition, The results showed that anxiety of online security and SNS usage had a significant influence on the smartphone expenses. This study could provide useful guidelines for researchers and company managers, and an opportunity to develop an understanding of social network trends.
