Moderating Effect of Empathy on the Relationship between Self-esteem and Aggression of Adolescents (청소년의 자아존중감이 공격성에 미치는 영향: 공감력의 조절효과)

  • This study aimed to investigate the moderating effect of empathy between adolescents' self-esteem and aggression. For this study, 542 adolescents were surveyed in B county of Gyeongsangbukdo in Korea. Data were analysed using reliability analysis, frequency analysis, mean comparison analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis for moderation. Major results are as follows. First, it was found out that adolescents' empathy were significantly different depending on gender, school level. But adolescents' aggression did not show any differences. Second, adolescents' aggression was negatively correlated with their self-esteem and empathy. Third, As a regression analysis, it was found that the male students showed a moderating effect of empathy between self-esteem and aggression, but the female students did not showed it. Based on these findings, it was suggested that programs for lowering aggressiveness of adolescents should be developed according to their environment and gender. In addition, the research through nationwide sampling, the research on the empathy related to the female students, and the study on the elementary school students were addressed.

The Influence of Hotel Culinary Staff's Burnout on Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention : Focusing on Moderating Effects by Staff's Career and Gender (특급 호텔 조리사의 소진과 직무만족도 및 이직의도와의 인과관계 연구 : 경력과 성별의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • The purposes of this study were to understand the influence of culinary staffs burnout in deluxe hotels upon job satisfaction and turnover intention and empirically analyze the moderating effects by career and gender between the relations of burnout and job satisfaction. Based on total 309 employees obtained from the empirical research, this study reviewed reliability and fitness of the research model and verified total 2 hypotheses with AMOS program. The hypothesized relationships in the model were tested simultaneously by using a structural equation model(SEM). The proposed model provided an adequate fit to the data, $X^2$=391.832(p<0.001), df=238, CMIN/DF=1.646, GFI=0.905, AGFI=0.880, NFI=0.936, CFI=0.974, and RMSEA=0.046. SEM resulted that the non-accomplishment(${\beta}$-0.306, p<0.001) in hotels showed a negative significant influence on job satisfaction. Also, job satisfaction(${\beta}$-0.285, p<0.001) had a positive significant influence on turnover intention. The moderating effects on gender do not seem to exist, although its effects on career do. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.

Moderating Effects of Protective Factors on the Relation between Deviant Peer's Influences and Delinquency in Adolescence (청소년기 비행친구의 영향에 대한 보호요인의 조절효과 - 자아존중감, 부모애착 및 지도감독을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating effects of protective factors on the relations between deviant peer's influences and delinquent behaviors in adolescence. To investigate the moderating effects, simple slope and region of significance test based on multiple linear regression(MLR) model were used. This study used data from wave 1-2(2003-2004) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). Results showed that for female adolescents, self-esteem, parent monitoring, and attachment to parent moderated the link between best friend's deviancy and delinquent behaviors. For male adolescents, however, best friend's deviancy and protective factors didn't show any significant moderating effects. These results help clarify the conditions under which exposure to deviant best friends can influence delinquent behaviors in adolescence. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topic were discussed to aid the search for highly effective preventive and treatment interventions.

The effect of perceived gender discrimination on belief in a just world: Gender collective self-esteem as a moderator (성차별경험이 정당한 세상에 대한 믿음에 미치는 영향: 성별집단자존감을 조절요인으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether gender collective self-esteem would moderate the relationship between perceived gender discrimination and belief in a just world (BJW) after controling the effect of personal self-esteem. For this, we measured perceived gender discrimination, personal self-esteem, gender collective self-esteem, and BJW in a sample of 300 women and conducted hierarchical regression analysis. The results revealed that, after controlling the effect of personal self-esteem, gender collective self-esteem moderated the association between perceived gender discrimination and BJW. That is, as gender collective self-esteem became greater, the negative effect of perceived gender discrimination on BJW decreased. In addition, we tested if four aspects of gender collective self-esteem (e.g. membership, private, public, identity) moderated the relationship between perceived gender discrimination and BJW. It was found that all of the four aspects except identity had significant moderating effects. Finally, we discussed limitations, suggestions for future research and clinical implications.

  • Mobile applications are growing fast and the rising popularity of smartphones, which was supposed to take the market even further. The purposes of this study are as follows. First, we find out what really drives the trust and the intention to continuance use the mobile applications. Second, we explore gender differences in perceptions and relationships between the quality factors and trust. The 231 sets of data collected from 120 male and 111 female, who use the smartphones, were tested against the model using PLS 2.0. The results of this study are as follows. First, perceived usefulness and connectivity had an effect on trust and continuance intension. Second, gender had moderate effect on the relationship between quality factors and trust.

The Moderating Effects of Age and Gender on the Relationship between Values and Communication styles of Korean Adults (한국 성인의 가치와 의사소통 방식 간의 관계에서 연령과 성별의 조절효과)

  • This study examined the moderating effects of age and gender on the relationship between values and communication styles of Korean adults. Five hundred adult men and women across the country responded the questionnaires regarding cultural universal values (openness to change, self-enhancement, conservatism, and self-transcendence), cultural-specific values (collectivism, conformity to norms, emotional self-control, family recognition through achievement, and humility), high-context communication style, and low-context communication style. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of exploring the factors influencing the communication style, self-enhancement, emotional self-control, and self-transcendence significantly predicted the high-context communication style. Whereas openness to change, self-enhancement, conformity to norms, emotional self-control, and gender significantly predicted the low-context communication style. Second, age moderated the relationship between self-enhancement and high-context communication style. The high-context communication style significantly increased when the level of self-enhancement was high and the age was younger. Third, age and gender moderated the relationship between conformity to norms and high-context communication style. In the case of males with high conformity to norms and younger age, the high-context communication style significantly increased. Fourth, gender moderated the relationship between collectivism and low-context communication. As collectivism increased, men tended to increase low-context communication styles, while women tended to decrease it. Fifth, gender moderated the relationship between humility and low-context communication. In the case of women with high humility, their low-context communication style was significantly lowered. The implications and limitations of the results of this study were discussed.

  • This study examines the relationships between family-friendly organizational culture(FFOC), corporate entrepreneurship, and innovative behavior. The purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of corporate entrepreneurship on the relationship between FFOC and innovative behavior. Also we examine the moderating effects of gender between FFOC and corporate entrepreneurship. Research sample consisted of 1,037 employees who were working in various manufacturing companies in Korea. The results of this research is as follows: First, FFOC showed a positive effects on corporate entrepreneurship. Second, FFOC had a positive effect on employee' innovative behavior. Third, corporate entrepreneurship partially mediated effect on the relationship between FFOC and innovative behavior. Finally, gender had moderating effect in the relationship between FFOC and corporate entrepreneurship. Specifically, the positive effect of FFOC on corporate entrepreneurship was stronger in women than in men when FFOC was higher. In particular, this research concludes with implications for future research of corporate entrepreneurship, limitations of this study, and practical application.

Influence of Health Promoting Lifestyle on Academic Procrastination in College Students: Mediating Effect of Grit Moderated by Gender (대학생의 건강증진 생활양식이 학업지연행동에 미치는 영향: 성별에 의해 조절된 투지의 매개효과)

  • This study aimed to analyze the mediating effect of grit moderated by gender in the relationship between health promoting lifestyle and academic procrastination among 250 college students in the metropolitan area. As a result of the study, first, there was a significant positive correlation with grit for health promoting lifestyle, and significant negative correlation with academic procrastination. Grit had a significant negative correlation with academic procrastination. Second, grit had a significant mediating effect in the relationship between health promoting lifestyle and academic procrastination. Third, the mediating effect of grit in the relationship between health promoting lifestyle and academic procrastination was moderated by gender. In other words, it was found that men had a stronger mediating effect of grit than women. Based on these results, the role and importance of grit in the practice and maintenance of a health promoting lifestyle were discussed, and a way to practice health promoting behavior and coping with academic procrastination according to gender were suggested.

Effect of HPM Factors on Adoption Attitude of u-Health System: Moderating Effects of Gender (u-Health 시스템의 수용 태도에 대한 건강증진모형의 요인 영향: 남·녀 조절효과 중심)

  • The aim of this study is to find the factors affecting attitude on u-health system using Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM) and also, analyze the moderating effect of gender variable in research model. To assess the proposed research model based on HPM, this study adopted Partial Least Square (PLS) method using Smartpls 2.0 version for the evaluation of research model. Thus, this study used survey questionnaire in order to collect useful data to potential users of u-health system. As a result of analysis, the examined variables explain 29% of variance on attitude to use of the u-health system. According to the PLS analysis, self efficacy and perceived benefits showed significantly positive relationship on attitude to use of u-health system. In addition, on the moderating effect of gender variable, female had more interest on self efficacy for positive attitude on use of u-health system.
