Effect of Curcuma longa Hot Water Extract on Activity of Neuronal Cells Related to Oxidative Stress (산화적 스트레스와 관련하여 신경세포의 활성에 미치는 강황 열수추출물의 영향에 대한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to screen a therapeutic agent with a cognitive function. The inhibitory effect of $Curcuma$ $longa$ hot water extract (CLWE) on the angiotension-converting enzyme and acetylcholinesterase derived from rabbit lungs and neural cells (PC12), as well as its antioxidant effect, was investigated in this study. Thus, for the first time, the direct scavenging effect of CLWE on DPPH radicals, superoxide anions, hydroxyl radicals, lipid peroxidation, reducing power, and the protective effect of DNA oxidation related to oxidative stress was evaluated in vitro. In addition, it was observed that CLWE especially exhibited a scavenging effect on reducing power and superoxide anions in this study. CLWE showed a protective effect on DNA oxidation produced by hydroxyl radicals. Furthermore, CLWE inhibited the activity of angiotensin-converting enzymes above 0.25%. Additionally, the extract inhibited oxidative stress and inducible nitric oxide in neuronal cells. Therefore, these results demonstrated that CLWE has antioxidant activity and neuronal cell protective effects, suggesting that it may have great potential as a natural source for human health.

  • SBN, BSKNN KNSBN 등의 tungsten-bronze 계열에 속하는 광굴절 결정은 짧은 파장에서 좋은 감광도와 빠른 응답시간을 갖는다. 이중에서도 KNSBN 결정은 큰 크기의 결정 성장 및 도핑이 용이하고 광굴절 결정에서 중요한 특성 중 하나인 열 안정성(thermal stability)이 좋기 때문에 빠른 응답특성이 요구되는 응용분야에서 촉망받는 매질이다. 본 논문에서는 광정보저장, 광정보처리, 광컴퓨터, 광통신과 같은 다양한 분야에서 응용가능성을 가지는 Cu가 0.04wt.%도핑된 5mm$\times$5mm$\times$5mm 크기의 KNSBN 결정을 이용한 광신호의 증폭기술에 대하여 연구하였다. 먼저 Cu-KNSNB 결정의 2광파 결합 특성을 분석하기 위하여, 기록 파장에 따른 지수이득계수의 외부입사각의존성, 최대 지수이득계수를 나타내는 외부입사각에서 입사빔의 세기비에 따른 2광파 결합 이득을 측정하였다. 또한, 632.8nm파장 영역에서 기록 및 삭제시간 상수, 회절 효율의 입사빔 세기비 의존성을 측정하였다. 그리고, 음향-광학 변조기(AOM: acousto-optic modulator)에 의해 진폭 변조된 신호빔을 이용하여 광신호 증폭특성을 분석하고 그 결과를 제시하였다. 이때 두 빔의 입사각은 최대 지수이득계수를 나타내는 입사반각 12$^{\circ}$로 고정하고, 감쇄기를 이용하여 신호빔의 세기를 조절하면서 신호빔의 차동이득을 측정하였다. 투과된 신호빔은 같은 주파수에서 차동 이득(diffrerential gain)을 보였으며, 이는 moving grating과 시간-변조된 신호빔(또는 펌프빔)사이의 새로운 상호작용은 광굴절 결정의 시간 적분 특성에 의한 것이다. (중략) 경우는 상온에서 펌프 펄스의 유지시간이 0.5% 인 경우 레이저가 동작하는 것을 보여주었다. 이는 구조내에서 열전도가 문제가 된다는 것을 의미하는데 위아래가 공기로 둘러 싸여 있어 발생한 열이 가는 유전체 네트웍을 통해서만 전달 될 수 있기 때문이다. (중략)$^4$A$_2$에 의한 nophonon line R$_1$, R$_2$(680.4, 678.5 nm) 및 $^2$T$_1$$\longrightarrow$$^4$A$_2$(655.7, 649.3, 645.2 nm)의 형광방출 스펙트럼을 얻었으며, 형광수명은 0.264 ms로 조사되었다. 제조된 레이저 발진봉은 직경 6.3 m, 길이 45 nm이었다.\pm$0.06kHz Ge $F_4$; -1.84$\pm$0.04kHz$0.04kHz/TEX>0.04kHz 모국어 및 관련 외국어의 음운규칙만 알면 어느 학습대상 외국어에라도 적용할 수 있는 보편성을 지니는 것으로 사료된다.없다. 그렇다면 겹의문사를 [-wh]의리를 지 닌 의문사의 병렬로 분석할 수 없다. 예를 들어 누구누구를 [주구-이-ν가] [누구누구-이- ν가]로부터 생성되었다고 볼 수 없다. 그러므로 [-wh] 겹의문사는 복수 의미를 지닐 수 없 다. 그러면 단수 의미는 어떻게 생성되는가\ulcorner 본 논문에서는 표면적 형태에도 불구하고 [-wh]의미의 겹의문사는 병렬적 관계의 합성어가 아니라 내부구조를 지니지 않은 단순한 단어(minimal $X^{0}$ elements)로 가정한다.

Study of Blast Ground Vibration & Noise Measurements In-situ and Effect Analysis for Numerical Analysis, Rational Blasting Design at an Eel Farm (양만장의 발파 진동소음 현장측정과 수치해석을 통한 영향검토 및 합리적인 발파설계 연구)

  • The vibration or/and noise generated by blast operations might cause not only structural damage to properties but mentally also to humans and animals. For that reason, maximum permitted vibration and noise levels are set by sensitivities of structures and they are used for the management of blast vibration. It is known that the fish lived in water are more sensitive to vibration than land animals, and thus the adverse impact of the blasting on fish farms should be very concerned. This study investigated the vibration and noise levels at a large eel farm located some 840 meters of the blasting site through the large real-scale experiments of blastings, prior to conducting the actual blasting. As a result, it was found that the noise met the requirement to be within maximum permitted level, while the ground vibration exceeded the permitted vibration. Accordingly, the impact of the excess vibration was investigated by an existing empirical method and verified by a new three dimensional numerical analysis. In this study, such an inspection process was briefly described, and a method was suggested for the examination of possible adverse effects from blasting on vibration-sensitive structures like the eel farm. The study also introduced a design method that controls the blast effects - ground vibration and noise.

Characteristics of Proteins and Total Suspended Solids Removal by Counter Current Air Driven Type, High Speed Aeration Type and Venturi Type Foam Separator in Aquacultural Water (향류 공기 구동식, 고속 폭기식 및 벤튜리식 포말분리기에 의한 양어장수의 단백질 및 부유 고형물의 제거 특성)

  • Experimental investigations on the removal of protein, total suspended solids and turbidity from aquacultural water were carried out by using three types of foam separator: counter current air driven type foam separator (CCADFS), high speed aeration type foam separator (HSAFS) and venturi type foam separator (VFS). The decrease of flow rate by CCADFS, HSAFS and VFS were $0.4,\;66.1,\;77.2 {\%}$ respectively. Protein removal rates by three types foam separator were decreased with the increased hydraulic residence time (HRT). Bellw 0.32 minute and 0.21 minute of hydraulic residence times, protein removal rate of HSAFS and YES was higher than that of CCADFS, respectively. Protein removal rate of VFS was lower than that of HSAFS at any HRT. As increasing the HRT, protein removal efficiency of CCADFS was increased, but that of HSAFS and VES were decreased. The changes of removal rates and efficiencies of total suspended solid and turbidity were similar to proteins.

  • This study was performed for the purpose of determining the effects of distribution of the lateral earth pressure in the case of sloping backfills of being consisted of the idealized cohesionless fragmental masses. The displacements were classified as eight types by D_UBROVA (by patterns). B type among these has its turning point at the top of the wall, moves outwardly and is significant to gravitational structure because of its foundation elasticity which causes displacement. Therefore, it might be surely acknowledged that the resultant, follows; $$E=1/2{\cdot}rH^2\frac{sin(u-{\varepsilon})cos({\alpha}+{\varepsilon})}{cos(u+{\alpha})}{\cdot}cot(u+{\rho})(t/m^3)$$, is appropriate for applying it to the designing of the sand-catch dams. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Lateral earth pressure is proportional to the square of the wall heights. 2. The coefficient(K) is directly proportional to the sloping of backfill surface and inversely proportional to the displacement. 3. The distribution of the pressure looks like parabola, curve of second order (Fig. 5, b). 4. The distribution of the pressure strength looks like that of hydrostatic pressure (Fig. 5, c).

Analysis of Numerical Experiment for Field Application of Cylindrical Slit Type Block Breakwater (실린더 슬릿형 소파블록 방파제의 실해역 적용을 위한 수치실험분석)

  • In order to evaluate applicability of cylindrical slit type block breakwater to the field water, which was designed from the previous physical model study, it is analyzed the calmness of harbor area by the numerical model experiment. For a small fishery port in southern coast of Korea a SWAN model using the wave action balance equation was formulated. The reflection and transmission coefficients induced by the physical model test were introduced to the numerical model. The model response with cylindrical slit type breakwater was compared with the impermeable breakwater case and the possibility of water quality improvement through the water circulation by the new structure was investigated. For numerical simulation, parameters of deepwater design wave from the prediction report II for overall deepwater design wave by KORDI were used and wind parameters from the 50years return period observed for 37years(1970~2006) were adopted in the numerical model. The response of west breakwater in Mijo port applying the NE and NNE waves, which were dominant in this area, was analyzed. It was found that the transmission characteristic of designed cylindrical slit breakwater was well presented in the numerical model.

Production of Bio-ethanol from Brown algae by Enzymic Hydrolysis (효소적 가수분해에 의한 갈조류 바이오 에탄올 생산)

  • The Brown-algae polysaccharide consisting of alginate and laminaran is usable as high bio-ethanol production if hydrolyzed to monomer unit. The objective of this study is to produce bio-ethanol from brown-algae using enzymatic saccharification. Bio-ethanol was produced by Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCCM 1129 and Pachysolen tannophilus KCTC 7937 strains. The substrate used Laminaria japonica, Sargassum fulvellum and Hizikia fusiformis. We isolated a new alginate lyase and laminaran lyase producing microorganism for hydrolysis of brown-algae from southern sea of Gijang. The reducing sugar was obtained 1.90 g/L from Laminarin japonica 20 g/L that used enzyme from Bacterium antarctica. In pretreatment of the most suitable brown-algae for ethanol production, ethanol concentration of 0.93 g/L and yield of 4.65% were obtained in condition of Laminaria japonica in medium.

Growth of rotifer by the air, oxygen gas-supplied and the pH-adjusted and productivity of the high density culture (공기 및 산소 공급과 pH 조절에 따른 rotifer의 성장과 고밀도 배양의 생산성)

  • The growth of rotifer, Brachionus rotundiformis was evaluated at different culture conditions. Rotifer was fed on condensed freshwater Chlorella. The productivity of rotifer in the high density culture system was compared to that of rotifer in the batch culture system, in which rotifer was fed on baker's yeast. The growth rate of rotifer increased as temperature increased in the culture system supplied with air or oxygen gas. The maximum density of rotifer in the culture systems supplied with air was in range of 16,300$\~$17,000 ind./ml at $24^{\circ}C$. In the culture systems supplied with oxygen gas, it ranged 26,300$\~$30,500 ind/ml at $28^{\circ}C$. When the concentration of dissolved oxygen in the culture system supplied with air reached to below 1 ppm or when the concentration of undissolved ammonia in the culture system supplied with oxygen gas reached 16.6$\~$22.6 ppm, the growth of rotifer decreased. When oxygen gas was supplied and pH was adjusted to 7, the maximum density of rotifer reached to 43,000 ind/ml at $32^{\circ}C$. The production costs for 10 billion rotifer in the high density culture and batch culture were 693,000 and 961,000 won, respectively. Therefore, it was concluded that the productivity of rotifer in the high density culture was higher than that in a batch culture.

Change of fatty acid compositions of rotifer according to enrichment diets and methods in the high density culture (고밀도 배양에 있어서 영양강화 방법 및 종류에 따른 rotifer의 지방산 조성의 변화)

  • This study was carried out to compare the growth and fatty acids composition of the rotifer (Brachionus rotundiformis) cultured in high density by the various enrichments and culture methods. The rotifer fed on condensed freshwater Chlorella was enriched with $\omega$-yeast, Algamac, Super Selco and marine Chlorella. In another culture method, the rotifer was cultured with enrichment supplements for 6 hours after feeding with condensed freshwater Chlorella supplement for 18 hour. The rotifer fed with condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hours without fieshwater Chlorella was used as a control group. Culture tanks (5 $\ell$ working volume) was immersed in a water bath ($28^{\circ}C$). The density of rotifer and dissolved oxygen level in water was stable in control group of rotifer cultured with condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hours and the n-3 HUFA content of rotifer was the highest among the rotifer culture methods. However, the density of rotifer and dissolved oxygen level in the groups of rotifers enriched with $\omega$-yeast, Algamac and Super Selco by methods were drastically decreased, The n-3 HUFA contents of rotifers enriched by Super Selco were higher than those of rotifer enriched by either $\omega$-yeast or Algamac in both methods. The results from this experiment indicated that supplementation of condensed marine Chlorella for 24 hour by the semi-continuous culture was effective for the improvement of the nutritional value of rotifer and it could provide the stable growth condition for rotifer culture in high density.

  • The immobilization of a microorganism has been rapidly progressed with the development of biotechnology in recent years. Although it has been used as a tool to isolate products from biological media in various areas, it has not yet been practiced in the treatment of waste water. In this paper, we suggest a possibility to apply the immobilization technique In the recirculating aquaculture system. We examined the ability of $NH_4^+$ removal by nitrifier consortium immobilized in $Ba^{++}-alginate$, k-carrageenan and agar bead at the concentration of 50 g/L, respectively. In order to use the immobilized nitrifier consortium as media in the fludized bed reactor, the strength of bead was measured. $Ba^{++}-alginate$ as a support material showed higher strength of bead. Also, the nitrifier consortium immobilized in $Ba^{++}-alginate$ showed higher nitrification activity that could remove 20 mg/L ammonium ion than those immobilized in other two support materials, carrageenan and agar. The immobilized nitrifier consortium showed better nitrification activity than free nitrifier consortium.
