A Study on the Safe Transportation of a Non-Standardized Cargo (Steel Box) for General Cargo Ships (일반화물선에서 비표준화물(철재상자)의 안전한 운송을 위한 고찰)

  • The "Standard on Cargo Stowage and Securing" implemented to safely stow and secure the cargo of international shipping vessels and domestic car ferries, has also been applied to general cargo ships transported between domestic ports since J anuary 2018. As a result, a new type of cargo, such as a non-standardized steel box transported by general cargo ships to major ports in Korea from Jeju Island in Korea, must be factored as the method of safe stowage and securing according to the legal classification of cargo. This study analyzed the legal status of a steel box by analyzing the actual size, shape of steel box through field verification, collection of data from relevant agencies and finally proposed the methods of safe stowage and securing for a steel box in the cargo holds of general cargo ships. According to the relevant domestic laws and international regulations, steel boxes could be classified as pallette boxes with protective outer packing, a type of non-standardized cargo. Additionally, when a steel box is loaded into the cargo hold of general cargo ships, a method of loading and transporting them must be factored so that there is no gap in the cargo hold of ships. Verification of the safety of the tightly loading and transportation measures in the reviewed cargo hold was verified through safety of the hull structure and securing of the ship's stability. As a result of verification of the safety of the hull structure, the value of the structural strength on both sides and the floor of the cargo hold for the total weight of cargo that can be loaded in the cargo hold was satisfied, and the value of the ship's stability was satisfied with the value of GoM and the restoration of the three cross-sectional stability curve areas.

  • Floating LNG is a new concept which is used as LNG regasification/receiving facility and for LNG production/export facility. LNG Floating Production Storage and Offloading(FPSO) concept will put vitality into marginal gas fields which were delayed because of excessive investment cost in the world. LNG Floating Storage Regasification Unit(FSRU) also provides commercially competitive and effective solutions to the areas where onshore infrastructure is not well established. LNG cargo containment system is one of the key functions for FLNG to store produced LNG on a floating structure. This paper presents a new technology related to a LNG containment system; a combined cargo containment system utilizing the advantages of iIndependent tank type and membrane system. Technical advantages have been validated through research work.

A Study on Bilge Pumping Performance of 24,000TEU class Container Ship (24,000TEU급 컨테이너선박의 빌지 펌핑 성능에 대한 고찰)

  • Herein, a case study was conducted on the bilge pumping performance of a 24,000TEU class container ship with an overall length of 400m. Although the bilge system of the 24,000TEU class container ship was designed in accordance with the rule requirements of the Classification Society, the bilge system did not satisfy the 2 m/s requirements of SOLAS Reg.II-1/35-1 under the rated flow rate and maximum flow rate conditions of the bilge pump installed in the ship. In particular, assumptions were made that No.1 ~ No.4 cargo holds were flooded and filled entirely by sea water and the evaluation of bilge pumping performance had been performed for No.1 ~ No.4 cargo holds. According to the evaulation results of the, the mean water velocity at the main bilge pipe for No.2, No.3, and No.4 cargo holds did not meet the 2 m/s criterion. To resolve this problem, in this study, the branch bilge pipe in each cargo hold was changed from 150A to 200A and the mean water velocity at the main bilge pipe for No.2, No.3, and No.4 was calculated as 2.479m/s, 2.476m/s, and 2.459m/s, respectively.

  • Bulk cargo loaded into ship can be damaged by various kinds reasons. This paper aims to analyze about cargo damage of coil carrier ship due to condensation. Condensation is the formation of liquid drops of water from water vapor. Condensation consists of small drops of water which form when warm water vapour or steam touches a cold surface such as a window. In general, condensation have occurred by temperature difference at large building and ship's tank. It is phenomenon that can occur often to oceangoing vessel moving temperature difference places in similar time. This paper proposes a new method using dehumidification device and fan heater to prevent bulk cargo damage of coil carrier ship from condensation.

연안 여객선의 예매 및 발권시스템 구축에 관한 연구

  • 현재 연안여객선의 여객과 화물의 승선 예매 및 발권시스템은 타 교통수단에 비교하여 매우 부족하며 여객이 느끼는 실질적인 서비스 수준도 상대적으로 미흡하다는 평가를 받고 있다. 해양수산부 등 관련 기관에서는 이를 개선하기 위해 승선권 무인취급시스템 등을 구축하고자 노력하고 있으나 아직 부족한 현실이다. 본 연구에서는 여객 및 화물 정보를 QR-Code 등을 통하여 인식한 후, 선박 자체관리 프로그램 및 Web상에서 연동되는 선박예매/발권시스템을 구축하였다. 시스템의 Database 정보에는 승선객의 프로파일 정보, 중간기착지 방문 정보, 여객의 최초승선지 및 하선 정보, 화물 적양하 기록 등이 포함된다.

  • This study was a part of FSA study which was initiated by IMO and was applied to hatchway watertight integrity of bulk carriers. Hazards which were involved in high risk level were identified as follows. Ship Operation out of Design Criteria(Hatch Coaming Damage) and Poor Maintenance & Inspection(Securing Arrangement Damage). The potential risk was calculated by risk analysis and risk control option was made to reduce potential risk. The potential risk was about U$60,000/ship-year and could be reduced to about U$30,000/ship-year by applying RCO 1(Advanced system directly related to Hatchway Security). In addition, effectiveness of RCOs was shown by cost benefit assessment.

  • 극저온 유체를 운반하는 선박의 화물창은 보통 1차 방벽과 2차 방벽으로 구성되어 있다. 1차 방벽에 소량의 극저온 유체의 누출이 생기더라도, 액밀이 되는 2차 방벽에서 추가적인 극저온 유체의 누출을 방지할 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 2차 방벽에 추가적인 손상이 생길 경우 유리솜으로 만들어진 Flat Joint를 거쳐 선체내벽까지 극저온 유체에 노출될 가능성이 있게 된다. 본 연구의 관심사는 2차 방벽의 손상 정도에 따라, 그리고 누출되는 극저온 유체의 양에 따라, 내측선체에 얼마나 영향이 미치는가를 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 극저온 유체를 운반하는 선박의 화물창을 구성하는 2차 방벽에 구멍을 뚫어 Flat Joint 사이로 극저온 유체가 흘러 들어가도록 격자를 생성한 후, CFD 소프트웨어를 이용하여 극저온 유체의 누출에 대한 계산을 수행 하였으며 이를 실험 결과와 비교 분석 하였다. 실험과 계산 결과를 살펴보면, 극저온 유체량에 따라 내측 선체에의 피해를 최소화 할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • The purpose of the development of KC-1 LNG cargo containment system is reduction in royalty and increase in competitiveness of shipbuilding industry. An assessment of structure safety for LNG cargo containment system under sloshing load due to ship motion has become an important design element. The ideal way is to implement fully interaction of the fluid domain and the cargo containment system. However the irregular sloshing pressure were idealized in the form of a triangular wave for safety assessment because the fluid- structure interaction analysis is taken the extensive computation time and difficult to ensure the accuracy of the results. In this study, the sloshing load was assumed to be a triangular wave with a maximum pressure of 10 bar during 15/1000 seconds. In the analytic results, the basic insulation panel of KC-1 LNG cargo containment system was assessed to be structurally safe for sloshing load.
