  • Recently, new dispersed generation systems such as photovoltaic, wind power, fuel cell etc. are energetically interconnected and operated in the distribution systems, as one of the national projects for alternative energy with the provision against oil crisis. The technical guidelines on the interconnection of dispersed generation systems have been established and conducted positively. However, protection devices (Re-closer) in primary feeder of distribution system interconnected with photovoltaic generation may cause problems with mis-operation, and then many customers could have problems like an interruption. So, this paper presents the optimal method to minimize the impact of interruption, using both the symmetric method and MATLAB/SIMULINK. And, also this paper shows the effectiveness of proposed method by simulating at the real distribution systems.

  • This paper represents a new approach for the protective relay of power transmission lines using a Artificial Neural Network(ANN). A different fault m transmission lines need to be detected classified and located accurately and cleared as fast as possible. However, The protection range of the distance relay is always designed on the basis of fixed settings, and unfortunately these approach do not have the ability to adapt dynamically to the system operating condition. ANN is suitable for the adaptive relaying and the detection of complex faults. The backpropagation algerian based multi-layer protection is utilized for the teaming process. It allows to make control to various protection functions. As expected, the simulation result demonstrate that this approach is useful and satisfactory.

  • This paper demonstrates that the verification and analysis of the increase of hosting capacity of distributed energy resources in distribution system for the high penetration of distributed energy resources. In the case of generally designed distribution feeders in South Korea, it can host up to 10 MVA of distributed energy resources and the over voltage due to reverse power flow is prohibited beyond the range by the law of electric utility. However, it should take into consideration that there are some factors of extra hosting capacity such as generation characteristics of distributed energy resources and minimum loads that always exist to distribution system. For these reason, we choose a specific distribution system hosted 10 MVA of distributed energy resources monitored by distribution system operator and verify the impact of increasing hosting capacity such as power flow and voltage profile of distribution system. By the result, we could find that it is possible to increase the hosting capacity and define the factors to expand the hosting capacity of distributed energy resources in distribution system.

  • In this paper we suggest optimal positioning algorithm for DER(distributed energy resource)s near ocean side by using Newton-Rhapson load flow calculation. By installing DERs within urban area, electric power can be effectively transmitted to each loads without constructing additional large scale power stations and transmission lines. Therefore, DERs have attracted worldwide attention as urban area energy sources. However, there are quite a few studies for estimation of power loss due to DERs' location change within urban area Hence, in this study, an optimal positioning scheme for DERs is proposed in order to minimizing electrical power loss.

  • The typical distribution systems have the power flow from distribution substations (sources) to customers (load) only as one direction. However, in the case where new energy power sources are connected to distribution systems, the output variations of new energy sources to distribution systems, which is so called reverse power flow, may cause the bi-directional power flow. So, the reverse power flow has severe impacts on typical power system, for example power quality problems, protection coordination problems, and so on. Therefore, this paper proposes the algorithm for Multi-functional protection devices in distribution systems in the case where new energy sources are interconnected. The proposed algorithm is verified to show the effectiveness by simulating and experimenting the prototype systems.

  • This paper presents a technique that can obtain an optimal solution for the Security-Constrained Economic Dispatch (SCED) problems using the Interior Point Method (IPM) while taking into account of the power flow constraints. The SCED equations are formulated by using only the real power flow equations from the optimal power flow. Then an algorithm is presented that can linearize the SCED equations based on the relationships among generation real power outputs, loads, and transmission losses to obtain the optimal solutions by applying the linear programming (LP) technique. The objective function of the proposed linearization algorithm are formulated based on the fuel cost functions of the power plants. The power balance equations utilize the Incremental Transmission Loss Factor (ITLF) corresponding to the incremental generation outputs and the line constraints equations are linearized based on the Generalized Generation Distribution Factor (GGDF). Finally, the application of the Primal Interior Point Method (PIPM) for solving the optimization problem based on the proposed linearized objective function is presented. The results are compared with the Simplex Method and the promising results ard obtained.

  • Many methods to examine the vulnerable areal for the contingencies in the power system. The most widely used index for the vulnerable area investigation has been the reactive power margin or sensitivity analysis. But we can get the results of these analyses if only the results of load flow are convergent in severe contingencies, otherwise these methods are not adoptable. We can present a good index for overcoming severe contingencies, if we can get the vulnerable areas by bus sensitivity in severe contingencies, though the power flow equation is unsolvable. This paper simulates unsolvable severe contingencies by using branch parameter continuation power flow. We can compute the vulnerable areas in unsolvable severe contingencies by normal vector at a nose point of a $\nu-V$ curve. Presented method is checked the input reactive power of the vulnerable areas in KEPCO system.

  • 본 논문은 EMTDC/PSCAD 프로그램을 이용한 80MVA UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)해석모델 개발과 2003년 실계통 적용시 적용효과에 대하여 기술하였다.
