  • Intellectual structure analysis, which quantitatively identifies the structure, characteristics, and sub-domains of fields, has rapidly increased in recent years. Analysis techniques traditionally used to conduct intellectual structure analysis research include bibliographic coupling analysis, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and author bibliographic coupling analysis. This study proposes a novel intellectual structure analysis method, Keyword Bibliographic Coupling Analysis (KBCA). The Keyword Bibliographic Coupling Analysis (KBCA) is a variation of the author bibliographic coupling analysis, which targets keywords instead of authors. It calculates the number of references shared by two keywords to the degree of coupling between the two keywords. A set of 1,366 articles in the field of 'Open Data' searched in the Web of Science were collected using the proposed KBCA technique. A total of 63 keywords that appeared more than 7 times, extracted from 1,366 article sets, were selected as core keywords in the open data field. The intellectual structure presented by the KBCA technique with 63 key keywords identified the main areas of open government and open science and 10 sub-areas. On the other hand, the intellectual structure network of co-occurrence word analysis was found to be insufficient in the overall structure and detailed domain structure. This result can be considered because the KBCA sufficiently measures the relationship between keywords using the degree of bibliographic coupling.

  • This study intends to design the bibliographic framework based on IFLA-FRBR model for television program materials and to evaluate this in terms of effectiveness of retrieval and usability of the system. The FRBR model supplies mote suitable bibliographic framework of audio-visual material which has a sufficient hierarchical relations and relative bibliographical records. The followings are research methods designed by this study; (1) The experimental metadata system named it FbCS based on FRBR was developed by using the entity-related database and composed of multi-layed and hierarchy. FbCS is developed through benchmarking of a case study for iMMix model in Netherlands based on FRBR. (2) To evaluate effectiveness of retrieval and usability of FbCS, this study made a experiment and survey by user groups of professionals.

  • This study is intended to build a cross-reference system as syndetic device to provide bibliographic relations and to collocate variant access points through references, by developing a reference record format. To this end, the method of this study are as follows: First, the roles of references, which have long been used in traditional records, have been reviewed. Second, ways in which references are depicted not only by current cataloging rules but also by authority control systems are examined. Major characteristics of the reference record are summarized as fellows: 1) If variations either of an author name or of a title are made, or any related works are published, only a single reference record is created. This record uses existing authority records, and instead of adopting authority headings, it will expand the function of the explanatory reference as well as newly implementing a relational reference which can later be used as a reference record. 2) All the variations of identical personal or group names and of lilies are dealt as one access point. In place of current 'see' and 'see also' references, not drawing lines between authority heading(1XX field), 'see'(4XX field) and 'see also' reference(5XX field), all forms of names will be simply applied to record field '1XX'. 3) Any form of data elements, which are used as access points, will be described in '1XX' which has equal value. When a need arises to explain relationships between various access points, it can be met by applying the general explanation reference-name(666 field). Similarly, when there is a need to articulate bibliographic relationships between related works, they will be suggested through the title and relational reference. 4) The title and relational reference regulates related terms that each relation type contains its field, according to each relational type, by reclassifying entire fields in order to provide direct bibliographic relation types on reference records. 5) Pointers which are connected to each access point present reference control numbers.

  • Library of Congress introduced BIBFRAME as a new bibliographic framework to enhance web accessibility of bibliographic records and their integration to Web of data. This study introduces BIBFRAME model and its current status, reviews BIBFRAME classes and properties, and presents a mapping between MARC21 and BIBFRAME. The study aims to help the understanding the deployment of BIBFRAME in bibliographic description. BIBFRAME categorizes bibliographic entities into Work-Instance, and employs RDF/XML and URIs to identify resources and specify semantics of the resources on the Web. It also suggests an Annotation entity to provide additional information produced by users and external organizations. BIBFRAME is significant in that it presents a new paradigm of bibliographic description and expands users' information discovery in the context of Linked Data. Continuous researches are required to support its content model agnostic application to diverse resource type, which may entail a modification of BIBFRAME model and vocabulary. It also calls for guidelines for using the complicated vocabulary in a coherent way.

  • In the current information environment around the library community, metadata is recognized as a sophisticated and powerful tool that can manage and represent information resources. However, with the discreet use of the concepts of metadata and metadata standard, there is no clear boundary that differentiates metadata standard from simple resource description and traditional bibliographic structure, leading to confusion as to what a metadata and metadata standard is. To consider these issues, this research discussed what metadata and metadata standards are based previous definitions of metadata. Based on those definitions, the fundamental concept of metadata is reestablished to be properly used in the library community.

  • This paper explores envy and jealousy caused by conflicts between youth and old age in Philip Roth's The Dying Animal and Bumshin Park's Eungyo. In Roth's Novel, David became envious and jealous of a fictional man when he imagined "the pornography of jealousy." In this pornography, his imagined rival was a young man who was once David himself but was no longer young who might steal Consuela away from him. In this sense, David's envy towards this young rival can be called "self-envy." David considered sex an act of revenge on death. But his envy and jealousy undermined his power and effect. In Eungyo, envy and jealousy arose between Lee and Seo when they came into conflict because of Lee's literary talent and Eungyo. At first, Seo admired Lee. But he grew envious of Lee's talent when he gained popularity and success by publishing Lee's novels under his own name. He was engulfed in jealousy when he detected Lee's sexual desire for Eungyo. He even insulted Lee's old age, which enraged Lee. Lee's rage was mixed with his envy toward the young and his sense of betrayal against Seo. With Seo's death, all these negative feelings disappeared. Instead, Lee was captivated by the pulsing breath of life and its beauty he observed in Eungyo.

  • The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) is a 'conceptual model of the bibliographic universe' developed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). Although some studies have suggested improvements in FRBR, and others explore alternative approaches, less attention has been paid to analyzing the internal coherence and consistency of the FRBR view as presented not only in the FRBR entity-relationship model and text of the FRBR document, but also in the related explanations and presentations of FRBR expositors. Our investigations have noted some interesting discrepancies between the general FRBR approach as presented in various expository documents and the specific account presented in the FRBR ER model and the FRBR document. We see that in one case these discrepancies can be easily remedied by adding additional modeling constructs and assertions, but in another case (the supposed 'inheritance' of attributes across the Group 1 entities), there is a substantial difficulty in maintaining a consistent model. We discuss several alternative approaches to enhancing the expressiveness of FRBR in order remedy this problem. We note that none is entirely satisfactory.

  • This study analyzed the structure and utilization of subject headings in the National Library of Korea Subject Headings List (NLSH) based on an analysis of subject headings assigned to 1,218,867 national bibliographies from 2003 to 2022. The findings of the study are as follows: Firstly, among all subject headings in the NLSH, there were 257,103 preferred terms, accounting for 50.2% of the total terms. Foreign language terms constituted 33% (169,466), while non-preferred terms comprised 12% (61,442). Among the preferred terms, 57,312 subject headings were used, accounting for 22.3%. However, it was observed that 54.7% (31,351) of these subject headings were assigned less than 5 times, indicating that only a small number of subject headings were frequently utilized. Secondly, the frequency of relationship indicators appeared in the order of RT, BT, and NT. The NLSH consisted of 12,602 top-level subject headings and 143,704 lowest-level subject headings, with a maximum depth of 17 levels. Thirdly, on average, 1.72 subject headings were assigned per bibliographic record. The number of subject headings assigned and the depth of the hierarchy increased for materials with more specific contents. Recent bibliographic records have been assigned more subject headings and deeper into the hierarchy of the NLSH. It was also found that the number of subject headings assigned per bibliography varied depending on the main class of KDC. Based on the findings, it is recommended to evaluate the coverage of terms in the NLSH, reorganize hierarchical relationships and depth of subject headings, and enhance the development of subdivisions within the NLSH.
